7/14/2006
Jeff Backus, det
Backus agreed to terms on a six-year deal with the Lions and is expected to sign the contract Friday. The Lions and Backus agreed to a one-year offer in May after they designated him the team's franchise player, but both sides kept working on a new deal that would keep him in Detroit for years to come.
5/31/2006
Ross Verba, det
The Detroit Lions signed Verba and released quarterback Shaun King on Wednesday. Verba, a free agent guard who didn't play football in 2005 after eight seasons with Cleveland and Green Bay, inked a one-year deal with additional option years.

James Davis, det
The Lions re-signed Davis Monday to a one-year contract. The linebacker played in all 16 of Detroit's games last season, finishing third on the team with 79 tackles and recovered a fumble.
5/15/2006
Jeff Backus, det
Backus on Monday agreed to the one-year offer he received when designated the Lions' franchise player in February, meaning he will be paid $6.98 million in 2006 or the average of the five top-paid players at his position from the previous season.
4/14/2006
Terrence Holt, det
The Lions re-signed Holt to a one-year contract on Thursday. The free safety started 10 games in 2005 before being placed on injured reserve Dec. 7 with an elbow injury. He had a career-high 44 tackles and two interceptions in 2005.
4/5/2006
Mike Furrey, det
Detroit signed Furrey to a one-year contract on Tuesday. The wide receiver-turned-defensive back played 11 games at safety last season for St. Louis and led the team with four interceptions, including one he returned 67 yards for a touchdown. He also had 55 tackles.
3/14/2006
Jon Kitna, det
Kitna has agreed to a four-year deal with the Detroit Lions for an unspecified amount. Kitna lost his starting position before the 2004 season to Carson Palmer and has played in seven regular-season games since.
Eddie Drummond, det
The Lions re-signed the return specialist to a five-year deal worth $6 million, including a $2 million signing bonus.
1/1/2006
Arlen Harris, det
Harris could get most of the carries for St. Louis on Sunday. The third-year running back has just six yards on three rushing attempts this season, but starter Steven Jackson is questionable with a hip injury and Marshall Faulk has been battling the flu this week. Harris could be the main back in the Rams' season finale in Dallas.
12/30/2005
Kevin Jones, det
After practicing with the Detroit Lions on Thursday, Jones said he'd be ready and available for Sunday's season finale against the Pittsburgh Steelers. The running back, who has not played since hyperextending his elbow against Green Bay on Dec. 11, continues to be listed as questionable on the injury report and likely will be a game-time decision. For the season, Jones has 586 yards and five touchdowns on 168 carries in 12 contests.
12/28/2005
Kevin Jones, det
Jones, who has not played since hyperextending his elbow against Green Bay on Dec. 11, did not practice with the Detroit Lions on Wednesday, and he's currently listed as questionable for Sunday's season finale against the Pittsburgh Steelers. The running back was able to work out with the team on a limited basis last week, but was held out when game time rolled around on Saturday.
12/24/2005
Kevin Jones, det
Although Jones was able to practice in a limited fashion, the back was inactive Saturday when the Lions took on the New Orleans Saints. Jones has not played since hyperextending his elbow against Green Bay on Dec. 11.
12/22/2005
Scott McGarrahan, det
McGarrahan has signed with the Detroit Lions after being claimed off waivers from the San Diego Chargers. The safety spent training camp with the Tennessee Titans, but was released prior to the start of the regular season. He then inked with the Chargers late last month and notched just one tackle in two games before getting cut.
Kevin Jones, det
Even though he's listed as questionable on the Lions' injury report this week, it appears unlikely that Jones will be available to play in Saturday's meeting with the New Orleans Saints. The running back has been sidelined since hyperextending his elbow in a game against the Packers nearly two weeks ago. He did not practice on Wednesday.
Glenn Martinez, det
Martinez has been released by the Detroit Lions, opening a roster spot for safety Scott McGarrahan, who was claimed off waivers from the San Diego Chargers. The little-used receiver appeared in five games this season, notching one catch for 11 yards and averaging 21.0 yards on two kickoff returns.
12/20/2005
Josh McCown, det
McCown will serve as the Cardinals' starter the rest of the season, replacing veteran Kurt Warner, who will miss the team's final two games with a torn knee ligament. The fourth-year quarterback has received the nod in four games already this season, filling in when Warner went down with a groin injury.
Charles Rogers, det
Rogers was the Lions' surprise offensive star in Sunday's loss to the Cincinnati Bengals, hauling in three passes for 71 yards and a touchdown, his first score in two years. The third-year wideout, who missed four contests earlier this year while serving a suspension for violating the league's substance abuse policy and sat out two others because of bad practices, returned to action after working his way back into the receiver rotation.
12/18/2005
Kevin Jones, det
Jones is inactive for Sunday's game against Cincinnati with a hyperextended elbow. The Lions' running back had been listed as doubtful this week.
12/16/2005
Earl Holmes, det
Nursing a sore knee, Holmes has been placed on injured reserve by the Detroit Lions, officially ending his 2005 campaign. The linebacker notched 75 tackles and two forced fumbles in 11 games on the year. Filling the roster spot will be receiver Glenn Martinez, who was promoted from the practice squad.
Boss Bailey, det
Bailey will miss the rest of the 2005 campaign after being placed on injured reserve by the Detroit Lions on Friday. The linebacker, who has been sidelined with an ankle problem, finishes the season with 59 tackles, one sack and an interception, which he returned 34 yards for a touchdown.
12/15/2005
Shawn Bryson, det
Bryson is expected to see more touches in Sunday's meeting with the Cincinnati Bengals, splitting time with Artose Pinner. The two backs will be filling in for regular starter Kevin Jones, who officially is listed as doubtful with a hyperextended elbow.
Boss Bailey, det
Bailey continues to be hobbled by a sprained ankle, and he's already been ruled out of Sunday's matchup with the Cincinnati Bengals. The linebacker missed last week's loss to the Green Bay Packers as well.
Artose Pinner, det
Regular starter Kevin Jones is expected to miss his second game in three weeks when the Lions take the field against the Cincinnati Bengals on Sunday, as he's officially listed as doubtful with a hyperextended elbow. As a result, Pinner will see an increase in his playing time, splitting carries with Shawn Bryson.
Kevin Jones, det
Jones has yet to be ruled out officially, but at this point, it appears that he will be unavailable for Sunday's matchup with the Cincinnati Bengals. The Lions' running back missed Week 13 with a quadriceps injury, but was able to return last weekend, only to leave with a hyperextended elbow. He has been listed as doubtful on the team's injury report.
12/13/2005
Kevin Jones, det
Jones was unable to play in Week 13, due to a bruised quadriceps muscle, but he was back in the Lions' starting lineup for last Sunday's matchup with the Green Bay Packers. However, after rushing for 63 yards on nine carries, the running back was unable to return to the field because of a hyperextended elbow. The new ailment reportedly is significant and is expected to keep him out of this weekend's meeting with the Cincinnati Bengals.
12/8/2005
Charles Rogers, det
According to interim head coach Dick Jauron, Rogers will be inactive for the second consecutive week, missing Sunday night's matchup with the Green Bay Packers. Reportedly, the receiver might not take the field again this season. He missed four contests earlier this year while serving a suspension for violating the league's substance abuse policy and sat out two others because of bad practices.
12/7/2005
Terrence Holt, det
Nursing a sore elbow, Holt has been placed on injured reserve by the Detroit Lions, officially bringing his 2005 campaign to an end. The safety finishes the year with 42 tackles, two interceptions and a forced fumble in 10 games.
Kevin Jones, det
Jones does not appear on the Detroit Lions' injury report this week, and barring any setbacks, he is expected to return to the starting lineup for Sunday's matchup with the Green Bay Packers. The running back missed last weekend's loss to the Minnesota Vikings with a quadriceps injury, but reported no problems after practicing with the team on Wednesday.
Sean McHugh, det
Filling the roster spot of safety Terrence Holt, who will miss the rest of the season with an elbow injury, the Detroit Lions have promoted McHugh from their practice squad. The tight end, a seventh-round pick in the 2004 NFL Draft, appeared in one game with the Green Bay Packers last season, but failed to record a catch.
12/5/2005
Artose Pinner, det
With regular starter Kevin Jones inactive with a quadriceps injury, the Detroit Lions turned to Pinner and Shawn Bryson to split the rushing duties in Sunday's loss to the Minnesota Vikings. Bryson notched six carries, but Pinner got most of the work, finishing with 64 yards and a touchdown on 14 rushes, along with three catches for a team-high 39 yards.
12/4/2005
Shawn Bryson, det
With Kevin Jones sidelined with a quadriceps injury, Bryson is slated to get the starting nod for the Detroit Lions in Sunday's matchup with the Minnesota Vikings. The running back will split carries with Artose Pinner.
Charles Rogers, det
Rogers has tumbled down the Lions' depth chart, and he will be inactive for Sunday's matchup with the Minnesota Vikings. The receiver, who was the second overall pick in the 2003 NFL Draft, has been disappointing this season, notching just 11 catches in six games. He missed four games while serving a suspension and was inactive for another, due to a bad week of practice.
Kevin Jones, det
The quadriceps injury that Jones suffered in practice last week will prevent him from playing in Sunday's matchup with the Minnesota Vikings. The Lions' running back first reported discomfort on Thursday and was unable to work out with the team on Friday. He is listed as day-to-day. For the season, Jones has 523 yards and five touchdowns on 159 carries.
12/3/2005
Kevin Jones, det
Jones has been downgraded to questionable for Sunday's game against the Vikings after his quad injury flared up in practice. If Jones cannot go, look for Shawn Bryson to start at RB for the Lions.
12/2/2005
Kevin Jones, det
According to offensive coordinator Greg Olson, the Lions plan to get Jones more involved in the offensive attack the rest of the season. Under head coach Steve Mariucci, who was fired on Monday, the running back averaged 14.45 carries over the first 11 games of the 2005 campaign. Olson has indicated that 20-30 rushes per contest would not be out of the question going forward. For the season, Jones has 523 yards and five touchdowns on 159 carries.
12/1/2005
Kevin Jones, det
A sore quadriceps muscle limited Jones' work in the Lions' practice on Wednesday, but the move was considered precautionary. The running back currently is listed as probable on the team's injury report, and he plans to be in the starting lineup for Sunday's matchup with the Minnesota Vikings.
11/30/2005
Scott McGarrahan, det
McGarrahan has signed with the San Diego Chargers, claiming the roster spot of linebacker Ben Leber, who will miss the rest of the season with a foot injury. Since being selected in the sixth round of the 1998 NFL Draft, the safety has appeared in 106 games, including three starts, notching 78 tackles, three sacks and an interception.
11/22/2005
Teddy Lehman, det
Sidelined since spraining his foot against the Chicago Bears on October 30, Lehman now will miss the rest of the 2005 campaign after being placed on injured reserve by the Detroit Lions. According to head coach Steve Mariucci, the second-year linebacker will be forced to undergo surgery to correct the problem.
11/14/2005
Roy Williams, det
After an abbreviated appearance last week, Williams appeared in the entire game against the Cardinals on Sunday and put up some impressive numbers. After missing a whole month with a quadriceps injury, he returned to full strength by catching seven passes for 117 yards and a career high three touchdowns.
11/13/2005
Charles Rogers, det
Rogers will be in uniform for today's game against the Arizona Cardinals, but Scottie Vines and Roy Williams will start at wide receiver.
Roy Williams, det
Williams will be in the starting lineup for the Lions today, opposite Scottie Vines, when the Lions host the Arizona Cardinals.
11/11/2005
Charles Rogers, det
Rogers is expected to be in uniform and see some action in Sunday's matchup with the Arizona Cardinals. After serving a four-game suspension for violating the league's substance abuse policy, the receiver returned to practice with the Lions last week. However, he didn't show enough effort in the workouts, according to head coach Steve Mariucci, and was not allowed to travel with the team for a matchup with the Vikings.
Roy Williams, det
Recovering from a strained left quadriceps muscle, Williams took about half of the reps during the Lions' practice on Thursday, and he continues to be listed as probable for Sunday's meeting with the Arizona Cardinals. The receiver, who was limited to just three plays in Week 9, should see more time this weekend, but it's unlikely that he will be ready for his normal workload.
Mike Williams, det
At this point, it is highly unlikely that Williams will be available for Sunday's matchup with the Arizona Cardinals, even though he remains listed as questionable on the Lions' injury report. The rookie receiver has been sporting a protective walking boot all week after suffering a mid-foot sprain in last weekend's loss to the Minnesota Vikings, according to head coach Steve Mariucci. Williams also has been nursing a sore knee recently.
11/10/2005
Josh McCown, det
According to head coach Dennis Green, the Cardinals will stick with Kurt Warner as their starting quarterback, even though he is winless in four starts at the top signal caller. As a result, McCown will remain in the backup role for the foreseeable future. McCown took over as the team's starter after Warner went down with a groin injury in Week 3, and he led Arizona to a 2-2 record in four starts.
Roy Williams, det
Williams, who has been battling a strained left quadriceps muscle for more than a month, was in the Lions' lineup for just three plays in last weekend's loss to the Minnesota Vikings. The receiver hopes to see more time in Sunday's matchup with the Arizona Cardinals, and he might even be back in the starting lineup. Officially, he has been listed as probable on this week's injury report.
Kevin Jones, det
Despite nursing a triceps strain in one arm and a bruised nerve in the other, Jones is not listed on the Lions' injury report this week, and he is expected to be in the starting lineup for Sunday's matchup with the Arizona Cardinals. The ailments limited the running back to just 15 yards on seven carries last weekend.
11/8/2005
Kevin Jones, det
Jones' status for Sunday's matchup with the Arizona Cardinals is currently up in the air after tests revealed a triceps ailment in one of his arms and a bruised nerve in the other. The Lions' running back, who was knocked out of last weekend's loss to the Minnesota Vikings, will be re-evaluated later this week. He has 381 yards and four touchdowns on 129 carries, as well as 13 catches for 48 yards in eight games this season.
11/7/2005
Roy Williams, det
Williams was active and in uniform for Sunday's meeting with the Minnesota Vikings, but as expected, he saw limited playing time, and as a result, finished the game without making a catch. The Lions' receiver had missed the team's previous three contests with a strained left quadriceps muscle, and it is obvious he's still not back to 100 percent.
Kevin Jones, det
Jones injured his right shoulder on Sunday and was forced to leave the game against the Vikings in the second quarter. He finished the game with only seven rushes for 15 yards and one catch for eight yards. Artose Pinner and Shawn Bryson replaced Jones in the backfield.
Scottie Vines, det
With Mike Williams nursing knee and ankle injuries, Roy Williams limited by a strained quadriceps muscle and Charles Rogers inactive after having a rough week at practice, Vines was forced to step up his game in Sunday's meeting with the Minnesota Vikings. The Lions' receiver responded to the call, finishing with nine catches for 109 yards -- both career highs.
Mike Williams, det
Already nursing a minor knee injury that he suffered in practice last week, Williams sprained in ankle during Sunday's game against the Minnesota Vikings, but was able to play through both ailments, finishing with four catches for 43 yards. The Lions' rookie receiver likely will be limited in practice this week, but he hopes to avoid missing any game action. His status will be updated in the coming days.
11/6/2005
Charles Rogers, det
Rogers was expected to return to the Lions' lineup this week after serving a four-game suspension for violating the league's substance abuse policy, but he did not travel with the team and will not play in Sunday's meeting with the Minnesota Vikings. Mike Williams and Scottie Vines are slated to get the starting nod, with Roy Williams coming off the bench.
Roy Williams, det
Williams won't be in the Lions' starting lineup for Sunday's matchup with the Minnesota Vikings, but he will be available for limited action off the bench. The receiver, who has missed the team's last three contests with a strained left quadriceps muscle, practiced Wednesday and Thursday, but was held back on Friday as a precautionary measure.
Mike Williams, det
Williams suffered a minor knee injury in practice earlier this week, but he will be in the Lions' starting lineup for Sunday's matchup with the Minnesota Vikings. Scottie Vines also will get the nod this weekend, with regular No. 1 wideout Roy Williams seeing limited duty in a backup role.
11/4/2005
Mike Williams, det
The knee injury Williams suffered during the Lions' workout on Wednesday is not considered serious, and the rookie receiver was back on the field with the team on Thursday. He should be available for Sunday's matchup with the Minnesota Vikings, but remains listed as questionable on Detroit's injury report. In seven games this season, Williams has 15 catches for 181 yards and a touchdown.
11/3/2005
Mike Williams, det
Reportedly, Williams was forced to leave the Lions' practice on Wednesday after injuring his knee. The rookie receiver, who was the 10th overall pick in this year's draft, will be re-evaluated over the next couple of days to determine the extent of the ailment. In the meantime, he has been listed as questionable for Sunday's meeting with the Minnesota Vikings.
11/2/2005
Josh McCown, det
McCown will return to the sidelines this weekend, as head coach Dennis Green has named veteran Kurt Warner as the Cardinals' starting quarterback for Sunday's meeting with the Seattle Seahawks. McCown took over as the team's top signal caller after Warner went down with a groin injury in Week 3, and he led Arizona to a 2-2 record in four starts. Warner has since recovered from the injury.
Roy Williams, det
Williams practiced with the Detroit Lions on Wednesday and reported no problems with the strained left quadriceps injury that has prevented him from playing in the team's last three games. The receiver said he expects to be available for Sunday's matchup with the Minnesota Vikings. In four games this season, he has 12 catches for 187 yards and a touchdown.
Teddy Lehman, det
After going down in Sunday's loss to the Chicago Bears, Lehman underwent tests the following day, which revealed that he has a sprained right foot. The linebacker was sporting a protective boot on Wednesday, and the Lions already have ruled him out of this weekend's matchup with the Minnesota Vikings.
10/31/2005
Charles Rogers, det
Rogers will return to practice with the Detroit Lions this week after wrapping up a four-game suspension for violating the league's substance abuse policy. Prior to serving the penalty, the receiver had hauled in just five passes for 77 yards in three contests this season.
10/30/2005
Roy Williams, det
Although Williams practiced throughout the week at 75 percent, Lions head coach Steve Mariucci will keep the receiver on the inactive list. Williams is battling a strained left quadriceps and has been out for nearly two weeks.
Mike Williams, det
With fellow receiver Roy Williams still out with an injury, rookie Mike Williams will once again be the go-to guy for quarterback Jeff Garcia. Williams caught five passes for 95 yards in last week's win over the Browns.
10/27/2005
Josh McCown, det
As anticipated, Cardinals head coach Dennis Green has officially named McCown as his starter for Sunday's game against the Dallas Cowboys. The fourth-year quarterback took over the top spot on the depth chart when veteran Kurt Warner went down with a groin injury in Week 3, and he has led Arizona to a 2-1 record in their last three games.
Roy Williams, det
Williams was able to return to practice with the Detroit Lions on Wednesday, but the receiver was working out at about 75 percent. According to head coach Steve Mariucci, the receiver will not be in the starting lineup this weekend against the Chicago Bears unless he's able to practice at full speed by Friday. Williams has been sidelined for nearly two weeks with a strained left quadriceps and currently is listed as questionable on the Lions' injury report.
10/26/2005
Dre' Bly, det
After getting a couple of opinions on his dislocated wrist, Bly decided to undergo surgery to repair the damage on Wednesday, and he is expected to be sidelined for the next 3-4 weeks. The cornerback, who suffered the injury in Sunday's win over the Cleveland Browns, has 20 tackles, four interceptions and two forced fumbles in six games this season.
Roy Williams, det
After missing nearly two weeks with a strained left quadriceps, Williams returned to action on Wednesday, practicing in pads with the Detroit Lions. As long as no problems are reported over the next couple of days, the receiver should be in the starting lineup for Sunday's meeting with the Chicago Bears. In four games this season, he has 12 catches for 187 yards and a touchdown.
10/25/2005
Shaun Rogers, det
Rogers' right knee injury has been diagnosed as a sprained medial collateral ligament, and the defensive tackle is highly questionable for Sunday's matchup with the Chicago Bears. For now, the Lions have listed Rogers as week-to-week.
10/24/2005
Kevin Johnson, det
Johnson is expected to miss the rest of the season after tearing his right Achilles tendon while running a route in Sunday's victory over the Cleveland Browns. The Lions' receiver, who has been filling in for the ailing Roy Williams, was replaced in the lineup by Scottie Vines. In six games this season, Johnson hauled in 17 passes for 133 yards.
Dre' Bly, det
Bly will undergo tests on Monday to determine if he will need surgery to repair his wrist, which he dislocated when colliding with another player in Sunday's win over the Cleveland Browns. The Lions' cornerback will be sidelined indefinitely if he is forced to go under the knife. His status will be updated in the next couple of days.
Shaun Rogers, det
Rogers suffered damage to the medial collateral ligament in his right knee during Sunday's win over the Cleveland Browns, and he will undergo more tests on Monday to determine the extent of the injury, according to Lions head coach Steve Mariucci. For the time being, the defensive tackle has been listed as day-to-day.
Josh McCown, det
Waiting until just before game time to name his starter, Cardinals head coach Dennis Green gave McCown the nod in Sunday's meeting with the Tennessee Titans, choosing him over veteran Kurt Warner, who has recovered from a groin injury. McCown completed just 12 of his 28 pass attempts for 140 yards, one touchdown and an interceptions, but it was just enough, as Arizona claimed the victory, 20-10.
10/23/2005
Roy Williams, det
Williams has been ruled out of Sunday's Week 7 matchup with the Browns. The second-year wideout was unable to play last Sunday against the Panthers due to a strained left quadriceps muscle, and he did not practice at full speed during the past week.
Kevin Jones, det
Jones is expected to start for the Lions on Sunday against the Browns. The running back has been limited in practice this week due to a shoulder injury, but he will wear a harness to protect the area.
10/20/2005
Josh McCown, det
McCown and Kurt Warner have been splitting snaps with the Cardinals' first-team offense in practice this week, but the team has not indicated which quarterback will get the starting nod in Sunday's meeting with the Tennessee Titans. According to head coach Dennis Green, a decision has been made, but won't be announced officially until just prior to kickoff this weekend.
Roy Williams, det
Williams reported improvement in his strained left quadriceps muscle earlier this week, but it is likely that he will be forced to miss his second consecutive game. The Lions' receiver has been limited to light jogging over the past couple of days, and barring a miraculous recovery, he'll be held out yet again. Officially, Williams has been listed as questionable on the injury report.
Kevin Jones, det
Jones was able to work out with the Detroit Lions on Wednesday, but was limited to non-contact drills, as he recovers from a bruised left shoulder. The running back, who was able to return to the lineup after suffering the injury in last weekend's loss to the Carolina Panthers, has been listed as questionable for Sunday's matchup with the Cleveland Browns.
10/18/2005
Cory Schlesinger, det
Schlesinger has been taking part in the majority of the Lions' full-speed workouts over the last week, and barring any setbacks, he should make his 2005 debut in Sunday's meeting with the Cleveland Browns. The fullback has been working his way back since breaking his right leg in a preseason loss to the New York Jets in mid-August.
Roy Williams, det
Williams did not practice with the Lions last week and missed Sunday's game against the Carolina Panthers, due to a strained left quadriceps muscle, but he has reported improvement in the leg over the last couple of days. The receiver will continue to receive treatment in hopes of testing things out later this week. He's considered as questionable for this weekend's matchup with the Cleveland Browns.
10/17/2005
Kevin Jones, det
Jones temporarily was knocked out of Sunday's meeting with the Carolina Panthers, due to a bruised shoulder. He was able to return later in the game, but failed to do much all day. The Lions' running back finished with just 21 yards on 12 carries.
10/16/2005

Roy Williams, det

10/14/2005
Roy Williams, det
Williams missed another practice on Friday, and Lions officials say that it's more and more likely that the second-year receiver will sit out this Sunday's game against the Panthers. Lions coach Steve Mariucci stated that he would like to see Williams practice before he gave him any game action.
10/13/2005
Cory Schlesinger, det
Schlesinger continues to work his way back from a broken right leg, and there is a chance he could make his 2005 regular-season debut in Sunday's matchup with the Carolina Panthers. The Lions' fullback reported no problems after donning pads and practicing with the team at full speed on Wednesday. Officially, he has been listed as questionable for the weekend.
Roy Williams, det
Williams continues to be sidelined by a strained left quadriceps, and he was unable to practice with the Detroit Lions on Wednesday. The receiver, who suffered the injury last weekend, currently is listed as questionable for Sunday's meeting with the Carolina Panthers.
10/10/2005
Josh McCown, det
Just one week after posting a career high for passing yardage (385), McCown topped the mark in Sunday's loss to the Carolina Panthers, going 29 of 46 for 394 yards and two touchdowns. However, the quarterback's stat line was marred by three interceptions, which resulted in a 77.6 passer rating. McCown was making his second consecutive start in place of Kurt Warner, who is nursing a groin injury.
Eddie Drummond, det
Following Sunday's victory over the Baltimore Ravens, Drummond said he will be sidelined for at least a week with a hyperextended left knee. The Lions' receiver suffered the injury on the game's opening kickoff return and was unable to get back on the field. In four games this season, he is averaging 20.8 yards on 11 kickoff returns and 4.5 yards on 11 punt returns.
Roy Williams, det

According to head coach Steve Mariucci, the receiver currently is questionable for next weekend's meeting with the Carolina Panthers. In four games this season, Williams has 12 catches for 187 yards and one touchdown.
Kevin Jones, det
Jones pounded into the tough Baltimore defense 26 times in Sunday's 35-17 victory over the Ravens, picking up 58 yards -- just a 2.2 yard average. However, the Lions' running back made up for his lack of yardage by scoring two touchdowns in the game.
10/6/2005
Jason Hanson, det
To avoid aggravating his troublesome hamstring, Hanson did not make any kicks during the Lions' practice on Wednesday. However, the team has listed the kicker as probable on this week's injury report, and he is expected to be available for Sunday's meeting with the Baltimore Ravens, barring any last-minute setbacks.
10/5/2005
Cory Schlesinger, det
Although Schlesinger likely won't be ready for this weekend's matchup with the Baltimore Ravens, it appears he could be available in Week 6 against the Carolina Panthers. The Lions' fullback continues to expand his workouts, as he recovers from a broken leg. He should be practicing at full speed by next week at the latest.
Charles Rogers, det
As was reported earlier this week, Rogers officially has been suspended for four games by the NFL for violating the league's substance abuse policy. The Lions' third-year receiver will begin serving the penalty immediately and won't be eligible to return to the team until Week 9. Mike Williams, det
With Charles Rogers out of action for the next four games while serving a league-imposed suspension, Williams will step into the Lions' starting lineup, opposite Roy Williams. Filling in for the injured Kurt Warner, who could miss up to a month with a strained groin, McCown led the Cardinals to a 31-14 victory over the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday in Mexico City. The 26-year-old quarterback went 32 of 46 and finished with a career-high 385 yards, two touchdowns and no interceptions. He was sacked three times and lost a fumble.
Charles Rogers, det
ESPN is reporting that Rogers will be suspended for four games for violating the NFL's substance abuse policy. Reportedly the suspension could be announced this week, unless the Detroit wide receiver files an appeal. Neither the league nor the Lions would comment on the report.

Jason Hanson, det
Hanson booted a few field goals during the Lions' practice on Wednesday and came away from the workout feeling pain-free. The kicker, who has been sidelined since straining his right hamstring in the Lions' season opener on September 11, should be ready for Sunday's matchup with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers as long as no problems are reported when he tests the leg on kickoffs later this week.

Jason Hanson, det
Hanson, who has been sidelined since straining his right hamstring in the Lions' season opener on September 11, will test his leg at practice on Wednesday. If no problems are reported, the kicker will expand his workouts over the following few days and be ready for Sunday's matchup with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Cory Schlesinger, det
Schlesinger had hoped to return to the Detroit Lions' lineup for this weekend's meeting with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, but the fullback has yet to practice at full speed with the team, and it appears he is at least another week away from a comeback. He has been recovering since breaking his right leg in a preseason loss to the New York Jets in mid-August.
Fernando Bryant, det
Bryant has been placed on injured reserve by the Detroit Lions, officially ending his 2005 campaign. The starting cornerback suffered a separated shoulder when he collided with teammate Kenoy Kennedy while attempting a tackle on receiver Muhsin Muhammad in a Week 2 loss to the Chicago Bears. Receiver Scottie Vines has been signed to fill the void on the roster.

With regular starter Kurt Warner expected to miss up to a month with a strained groin, the Arizona Cardinals will give McCown the nod in Sunday night's meeting with the San Francisco 49ers in Mexico City. The backup quarterback has appeared in two of the team's three games this season, going 15 of 33 for 149 yards, two interceptions and no touchdowns. He's also lost a fumble.
Scottie Vines, det

9/16/2005
Jason Hanson, det
It appears that Hanson, listed as questionable, will not play this Sunday against the Bears. The Lions signed Remy Hamilton today to handle placekicking chores. There's a chance both kickers might be active, with Hamilton kicking off and Hanson saving his leg for field goals.
Rex Tucker, det
The calf injury Tucker suffered in last weekend's season-opening loss to the San Francisco 49ers continues to be a problem, and he's been unable to work out with the Rams this week. The starting right tackle already has been ruled out of Sunday's meeting with the Arizona Cardinals.
9/15/2005
Jason Hanson, det
Hanson has reported that he has a slight tear in his right hamstring, and due to lingering soreness in the leg, he's been unable to practice with the Lions this week. The kicker was able to handle extra-point attempts and short field-goal tries after suffering the injury in last weekend's season opener against the Green Bay Packers, but he's currently listed as questionable for this Sunday's meeting with the Chicago Bears.
9/14/2005
Marcus Pollard, det
Lions quarterback Joey Harrington looked Pollard's way quite often in Sunday's season opener against the Green Bay Packers, and it appears the tight end will be a good fit in the team's West Coast offense. After not practicing with the Lions this week because of a sore ankle, Jones likely won't be in the lineup for Friday's preseason finale against the Buffalo Bills. The ailment is considered minor, and the team is just being extra cautious with their top tailback.
8/31/2005
Cory Schlesinger, det
Schlesinger continues to recover from the broken right fibula he suffered in a preseason loss to the New York Jets earlier this month, and the fullback hopes to be back in the Lions' lineup for their October 2 meeting with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers -- the team's third game of the 2005 campaign. Paul Smith and Will Matthews are expected to fill in until that time.

The Browns have agreed to release Verba as soon as the offensive lineman repays a $465,000 roster bonus. The guard already has sat out a voluntary passing camp this offseason, and has said that he is ready to play somewhere else. A first-round pick in 1997, Verba played four years in Green Bay and has spent the past three seasons in Cleveland.

He eventually was released in February.
