12/6/2005

Ladell Betts, was

The running back, who has been sidelined since Week 10, has reported improvement recently, however, and plans to work out with the team in the coming days. Barring any setbacks, he should be available for this weekend's matchup with the Arizona Cardinals.

Filling in as the Redskins' primary backup tailback in the absence of the injured Ladell Betts, Cartwright gained 118 rushing yards on only nine carries in Sunday's 24-9 win at St. Louis. The performance was the first career 100-yard game for the running back.

12/4/2005

Ladell Betts, was

Betts was able to work out with the Redskins on Thursday, but was back on the sidelines Friday, and it appears he won't be available for Sunday's meeting with the St. Louis Rams. The backup running back has been sidelined since Week 10 with a sprained medial collateral ligament in his knee, and the team is expected to give him another week to recover from the ailment.

12/2/2005

Ladell Betts, was

Betts' chances of playing in Sunday's matchup with the St. Louis Rams looked slim earlier this week, but he was able to return to practice with the Washington Redskins on Thursday and reported no major problems. The running back, who has been sidelined since Week 10 with a sprained medial collateral ligament in his knee, continues to be listed as questionable on the team's injury report, but could be upgraded if he looks good in Friday's workout.

12/1/2005

During an arthroscopic procedure on Friday, doctors found more damage in Patten's ailing knee than was anticipated originally. The receiver will be sidelined for at least six weeks while recovering from the repairs, prompting the Redskins to place him on injured reserve, officially ending his 2005 campaign. He finishes the season with 22 catches for 217 yards and no touchdowns in nine games.

11/17/2005

David Patten, was

Patten continues to be sidelined by the knee problem that limited his action in last weekend's loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The receiver was unable to practice with the Redskins on Wednesday, and he's currently listed as doubtful for Sunday's matchup with the Oakland Raiders. If he's unable to take the field this weekend, James Thrash will get the starting nod opposite Santana Moss.

Sean Taylor, was

After playing through a sprained ankle the previous two games, Taylor did not take the field in last Sunday's loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The Redskins' safety continues to wear a protective boot on his foot, and he was unable to practice on Wednesday. However, according to head coach Joe Gibbs, the team is optimistic that Taylor will be ready for this weekend's battle with the Oakland Raiders.

11/15/2005

Ladell Betts, was

Betts will be limited in practice this week and his availability for Sunday's tussle with the Oakland Raiders currently is up in the air after suffering a sprained medial collateral ligament in his knee during last weekend's loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The Redskins' running back will receive treatment over the next couple of days before being re-evaluated to determine his status.

11/14/2005

Clinton Portis, was

Portis rushed for a season-high 144 yards and a touchdown on 23 carries in Sunday's disappointing 36-35 loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The Redskins' running back, who also had nine yards on two receptions, has topped the century mark four times this season.

11/11/2005

Sean Taylor, was

Unless his sprained ankle improves dramatically over the next couple of days, Taylor will not play in Sunday's meeting with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, according to Redskins head coach Joe Gibbs. The safety has been in the lineup the last two weeks despite the injury, but he's been unable to practice with the team this week and was downgraded from probable to questionable on the injury report.

11/3/2005

Antuan Edwards, was

Edwards has signed with the Atlanta Falcons. The six-year veteran safety, who was released by the New England Patriots during training camp, split the 2004 campaign between the Miami Dolphins and St. Louis Rams, finishing the season with 65 tackles, one sack and a forced fumble in 14 games, including a career-high 13 starts. Cam Newton was cut to open a roster spot.

11/2/2005

Chris Cooley, was

Although all tests ruled out any serious damage, Cooley has been diagnosed with a sprained knee and bruised hip, injuries suffered in Sunday's loss to the New York Giants. Despite the ailments, the H-back practiced with the Redskins on Wednesday and reported no major problems. He is expected to be ready for this weekend's meeting with the Philadelphia Eagles.

10/31/2005

Mark Brunell, was

Brunell had trouble getting the Redskins' offense moving in Sunday's 36-0 loss to the New York Giants. The veteran quarterback finished the game with a season-low 32.4 passer rating, going 11 of 28 for just 65 yards, one interception and no touchdowns. With the game well out of reach, Brunell was pulled from the lineup in favor of backup Patrick Ramsey.

Chris Cooley, was

Cooley underwent an MRI on Monday to determine the extent of the knee injury he suffered in Sunday's loss to the New York Giants. The Redskins' H-back, who also is nursing a bruised hip, currently is listed as day-to-day. His status will be updated when the results of the tests have been reviewed.

10/29/2005

Brandon Lloyd, was

After missing practice on Thursday, Lloyd was with the team, and practiced on Friday despite back and hip soreness. Lloyd is expected to start this Sunday against Tampa Bay.

10/28/2005

John Hall, was

It appears Hall will be ready to return to action in Sunday's meeting with the New York Giants. The kicker, who has been sidelined since the Redskins' regular-season opener with a strained right quadriceps muscle, has been splitting time in practice this week with his temporary replacement, Nick Novak. Officially, Hall has been listed as probable.

Brandon Lloyd, was

Lloyd did not practice with the San Francisco 49ers on Thursday so he could undergo an MRI to determine the cause of the discomfort in his back and hip. The tests were considered precautionary, and the receiver plans to be back on the field on Friday. Currently, he is listed as probable for Sunday's matchup with the Tampa Bay.

10/24/2005

Mark Brunell, was

Brunell posted a season-high 147.9 passer rating in Sunday's 52-17 thrashing of the San Francisco 49ers, despite making only 20 pass attempts on the day. The Redskins' veteran quarterback completed 13 of those throws for 252 yards, three touchdowns and no interceptions. He was sacked just once.

10/23/2005

John Hall, was

Hall will be inactive for the Redskins' Week 7 meeting with the 49ers.

10/21/2005

Mark Brunell, was

Brunell likely will take it easy on Friday after straining his left calf muscle late in practice the previous day. Although the Redskins have added the quarterback to the injury report (probable), the ailment is considered minor, and Brunell plans to be in the starting lineup against the San Francisco 49ers this weekend.

Clinton Portis, was

Portis practiced on Friday, the first time this week he has been able to do so. He is listed as probable for Sunday's tilt against the San Francisco 49ers.

10/20/2005

John Hall, was

Hall will be evaluated later in the week to determine his availability for Sunday's matchup with the San Francisco 49ers, but he's currently listed as probable on the Redskins' injury report. The kicker, who has been sidelined since the regular-season opener with a strained right quadriceps muscle, reported no major problems after returning to practice with the team on Wednesday.

10/17/2005

Mark Brunell, was

Brunell posted a season-high 110.9 passer rating and topped 300 yards for the second consecutive week, but it wasn't enough as the Redskins fell to the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday, 28-21. The veteran quarterback finished the game 25 of 41 for 331 yards, three touchdowns and no interceptions, but he was sacked four times and lost two fumbles.

Santana Moss, was

Moss turned in his best performance since being selected with the 16th overall pick in the 2001 NFL Draft, matching a personal best with 10 catches for a career-high 173 yards in Sunday's loss to the Kansas City Chiefs. In addition, the Redskins' receiver took two of the receptions to the end zone for scores.

Clinton Portis, was

In addition to the calf muscle he strained last week, Portis suffered a bruised shin on Sunday as well, and reportedly was limping noticeably following Sunday's loss to the Kansas City Chiefs. The running back likely will be limited in practice this week as a precautionary measure, but he plans to be ready for the Redskins' next contest.

10/16/2005

Shawn Springs, was

On Friday, Washington head coach Joe Gibbs said that "it doesn't look good" when asked if Springs might be ready to play Sunday against the Kansas City Chiefs. The Washington cornerback suffered a bruised shin in practice three days before the Redskins lost to the Denver Broncos last Sunday, then aggravated the injury in the first quarter and left the game.

Clinton Portis, was

As anticipated, Portis returned to practice Friday. Washington head coach Joe Gibbs said his primary running back "looked good and he's ready to go." Portis has rushed for 366 yards on 83 carries without scoring a touchdown this year.

10/14/2005

Shawn Springs, was

According to head coach Joe Gibbs, barring a miraculous recovery, Springs likely won't be available for Sunday's matchup with the Kansas City Chiefs. The cornerback is nursing a bruised shin and has been unable to work out with the Redskins this week. He remains listed as questionable on the injury report.

Clinton Portis, was

Portis missed practice on Wednesday and Thursday because of a sore calf muscle, but he plans to return to the field and work out with the Redskins on Friday. The running back currently is listed as probable for Sunday's matchup with the Kansas City Chiefs, and as long as no major problems are reported over the next couple of days, he will be in the starting lineup.

Ladell Betts, was

Betts continues to be hobbled by a strained groin, and since he's been unable to practice with the Redskins this week, his status has been downgraded from questionable to doubtful for Sunday's meeting with the Kansas City Chiefs. If the running back is unable to go this weekend, Rock Cartwright will step in as Clinton Portis' primary backup.

10/13/2005

Ladell Betts, was

Betts has been listed as questionable on the Redskins' injury report this week, due to the groin injury he suffered in last weekend's loss to the Denver Broncos. The running back, who serves as Clinton Portis' primary backup, did not practice with the team on Wednesday. He will be re-evaluated over the next couple of days to determine his availability.

10/12/2005

John Hall, was

Hall is expected to miss at least one more game with his strained right quadriceps muscle, but an MRI taken earlier this week revealed that his leg is healing. The kicker plans to expand his workouts over the coming days, but the Redskins are not going to push him too quickly and risk further aggravation of the injury. Nick Novak will continue to handle the kicking duties in Hall's absence.

10/11/2005

John Hall, was

Still sidelined by a strained right quadriceps muscle, Hall missed his third consecutive game on Sunday, and the Redskins are uncertain when he might be able to return to action. 10/4/2005

John Hall, was

Although his leg has yet to fully recover, Hall was able to kick several field goals during the Redskins' practice on Monday. The veteran kicker has been sidelined since straining his right quadriceps muscle on a kickoff in a season-opening victory over the Chicago Bears on September 11, and the team still does not have an exact timetable for his return.

10/3/2005

Sean Taylor, was

The shoulder injury that limited Taylor a bit last week forced him to exit in the fourth quarter of Sunday's overtime victory over the Seattle Seahawks. The Redskins' safety, who had been listed as probable going into the game, could miss some practice time over the next several days, but he hopes to be ready for the team's next game.

9/29/2005

John Hall, was

According to Redskins head coach Joe Gibbs, Hall still is not back to full strength, and he'll likely be held out of Sunday's meeting with the Seattle Seahawks. Officially, he has been listed as questionable.

Mike Rumph, was

Tests have revealed that Rumph has a torn muscle in his foot. The defensive back, who suffered the injury during Wednesday's workouts, will be placed on injured reserve and miss the rest of the season. Brandon Noble, was

Expected to miss at least a month after undergoing surgery to repair a cartilage problem in his left knee, Noble has been placed on injured reserve by the Washington Redskins. The defensive tackle will be forced to sit out the rest of the season.

Brandon Lloyd, was

Lloyd was limited to individual work on Wednesday, as he continues to recover from a sprained ankle. The 49ers' receiver plans to return to practice with the team over the next couple of days, and barring any setbacks, he will be in the lineup against the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday. Officially, he is listed as probable.

9/20/2005

Mark Brunell, was

It took Brunell a while to get in a groove, but he found his touch just at the right time, leading the Redskins to a comeback 14-13 victory over the Dallas Cowboys Monday night. The veteran quarterback, who was handed the starting job after Patrick Ramsey struggled in Week 1, hit Santana Moss for touchdown strikes of 39 and 70 yards in the final four minutes of Monday's win. He finished the game 20 of 34 for 291 yards, two touchdowns and an interception.

Pierson Prioleau, was

Prioleau spent most of Monday night's victory over the Dallas Cowboys on the sidelines with his leg wrapped in ice after pulling his right hamstring early in the contest. After further testing, Hall's strained right quadriceps is not as serious as the injury that ended his 2004 campaign, but the kicker likely will not be ready for Monday night's meeting with the Dallas Cowboys, according to Redskins head coach Joe Gibbs. As a result, the team has signed Nick Novak to handle the kicking duties until Hall is able to return to action.

Brunell will step into the starting role, beginning with next Monday night's meeting with the Dallas Cowboys.

John Hall, was

Hall strained his right quadriceps on his final kickoff in Sunday's victory over the Chicago Bears, and there is a chance he could be sidelined for an extended period. Hall nailed all three of his field-goal attempts in Sunday's game.

Already nursing a fractured thumb on his left hand, Jansen broke his right thumb in Sunday's season-opening victory over the Chicago Bears. The offensive lineman will be fitted for yet another cast and plans to play through both of the injuries.

Tom Tupa, was

Tupa hasn't been able to kick since straining his back two weeks ago while warming up for an exhibition game. Tupa averaged 44.1 yards on 103 punts last season.

Ladell Betts, was

Betts was sporting a protective boot on his left foot over the weekend after spraining his ankle late last week. Todd Collins, was

Collins was slated to see more action in Friday's exhibition game against the Minnesota Vikings, but he was removed from the Chiefs' lineup after injuring his right (passing) hand. Reportedly, tests have revealed a cracked bone and a deep bruise, and the veteran quarterback could miss more than two weeks.
