Tampa Bay Buccaneers

8/17/2006

Michael Clayton, tam

The Tampa Tribune reported that Clayton lost 10 pounds over the offseason and has declared himself healthy for the Buccaneers. The wide receiver was hampered a shoulder, knee and turf toe injuries last season that limited him to 32 catches and 372 yards and no touchdowns in 14 games.

8/5/2006

Dwight Ellick, tam

The Tampa Bay Bucs signed Ellick and released cornerback Reuben Houston Saturday. Ellick, also a cornerback, originally signed with the Bucs on Jan. 20 and was released July 28, the day after the team reported to training camp. Houston had signed on as an undrafted free agent on May 8.

8/3/2006

Ronde Barber, tam

Barber signed a five-year contract extension late Wednesday with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The 10th-year cornerback was entering the final of a six-year contract he signed in 2000. The new deal is worth up to $24 million.

8/1/2006

Ronde Barber, tam

Barber wants to play his entire career for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and is on the verge of signing a contract extension that will give him a chance to do so.

7/24/2006

Bruce Gradkowski, tam

Gradkowski, a sixth-round pick, signed a contract Monday with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

6/21/2006

Luke McCown, tam

McCown will have surgery this week after partially tearing the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee during a June 15 workout. The Buccaneers' backup quarterback was scrambling out of the pocket to his right and planted his foot to make a move upfield when the injury occurred. "I felt the pain and went down," McCown said. "It's a cut I've probably made a thousand times."

5/24/2006

David Boston, tam

Boston signed a contract with Tampa Bay on Wednesday after missing the majority of the past two seasons with injuries. The 27-year-old wide receiver caught four passes for 80 yards in five games with the Miami Dolphins last season, before being placed on injured reserve with a knee injury. Boston's best season came with Arizona in 2001 when he made 98 catches for 1,598 yards and eight touchdowns and was selected to the Pro Bowl.

3/21/2006

Dave Moore, tam

Moore re-signed with Tampa Bay on Tuesday. Terms were not disclosed. The 14-year veteran has spent 12 years with the Buccaneers, with 206 career receptions for 2,019 yards and 28 touchdowns. He has been used primarily as a blocking tight end at the end of his career, with only 11 catches in 46 games over the last three years.

3/20/2006

Ike Hilliard, tam

The Buccaneers re-signed receiver Hilliard to a four-year deal.

3/4/2006

Michael Pittman, tam

Pittman has reportedly agreed to restructure his contract with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The Bucs' running back agreed to a three-year contract extension that frees up $700,000 in salary cap room for the Bucs this season. He would earn $675,000 in 2006 as a result and returns to backup starting running back Cadillac Williams this fall.

3/1/2006

Chris Simms, tam

Simms signed a one-year contract to return to the Buccaneers. Terms of the contract were not disclosed. He was two days away from becoming an unrestricted free agent.

2/27/2006

Juran Bolden, tam

Bolden re-signed with Tampa Bay on Tuesday. Terms were not disclosed. The nine-year veteran had a career-high 42 tackles and two interceptions in his first year with the Buccaneers. The cornerback played in all 16 games and made two starts.

1/8/2006

Chris Simms, tam

Simms threw for 198 yards on 25 of 38 passing but was intercepted twice and sacked three times in Saturday's 17-10 Wild-Card loss to the Redskins. The Buccaneers' quarterback rushed for a two-yard touchdown in the third quarter.

1/4/2006

Carnell Williams, tam

Williams held off former college teammate and current Miami Dolphins running back Ronnie Brown and Pittsburgh tight end Heath Miller to claim the Associated Press NFL Rookie of the Year award. The Buccaneers' tailback, who was the fifth overall pick in the 2005 NFL Draft, finished the regular season with 1,178 yards and six touchdowns on 290 carries. He also hauled in 20 passes for 81 yards.

1/3/2006

Ike Hilliard, tam

Hilliard will remain in the Buccaneers' starting lineup opposite Joey Galloway, as second-year wideout Michael Clayton has been ruled out of Saturday's Wild Card meeting with the Washington Redskins, due to a nagging turf toe injury. The nine-year veteran receiver, who is in his first season with Tampa Bay, finished the regular season with 35 catches for 282 yards and one touchdown in 16 games.

Michael Clayton, tam

Clayton continues to be hobbled by a turf toe injury, and he will not be available for Saturday's Wild Card matchup with the Washington Redskins. The receiver, who might not see any more action this season, will be replaced in the starting lineup by veteran Ike Hilliard.

12/27/2005

Michael Clayton, tam

Clayton will not be available for Sunday's regular-season finale against the New Orleans Saints after suffering a turf toe injury in last weekend's win over the Atlanta Falcons. According to Buccaneers head coach Jon Gruden, the ailment could force the second-year receiver to miss most, if not all, of the upcoming playoffs as well. Veteran Ike Hilliard will step into the starting lineup opposite Joey Galloway in his absence.

12/21/2005

Chris Simms, tam

The sprained thumb on Simms' throwing hand was still a bit sore on Tuesday, but the quarterback was able to practice with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers as normal. Simms, who was sacked seven times in last weekend's loss to the New England Patriots, said he will be under center when the team takes the field against the Atlanta Falcons on Saturday.

12/20/2005

Matt Kranchick, tam

The New York Giants have signed Kranchick off the Pittsburgh Steelers' practice squad, filling the roster spot of fellow tight end Sean Berton, who will miss the rest of the season with a knee injury. Kranchick has appeared in six games over the past two seasons, recording just one catch for six yards.

Todd France, tam

With Matt Bryant healthy again, France has been released by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The kicker filled in against the New Orleans Saints earlier this month while Bryant recovered from a hamstring injury, but he's been inactive the last two weeks. He will be replaced on the roster by tight end Will Heller.

12/18/2005

Carnell Williams, tam

Williams was held to just 23 rushing yards on 14 carries in Saturday's 28-0 loss at New England. The longest run of the day for the Buccaneers' running back was only three yards. The effort snapped a string of four straight games with 80 rushing yards or more for Williams.

12/14/2005

Matt Bryant, tam

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers chose to hold Bryant out of practice on Tuesday, allowing him to rest his troublesome hamstring. After sitting out Week 13 with the injury, the kicker returned to action last Sunday, nailing all four of his attempts (two field goals, two extra points). He's currently listed as probable on the team's injury report and plans to be ready for Saturday's matchup with the New England Patriots.

12/13/2005

Anthony McFarland, tam

McFarland has been unable to practice with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers this week after straining his hamstring in last weekend's win over the Carolina Panthers. Currently, the defensive tackle is listed as doubtful for Saturday's matchup with the New England Patriots, and if no dramatic improvement is shown in the next couple of days, he won't be available for duty.

12/11/2005

Ronde Barber, tam

Barber became the first cornerback in NFL history with 20 career interceptions and 20 career sacks in Sunday's victory over Carolina. The Buccaneers' veteran had one interception, the 28th of his career, as well as his 20th career sack. "He's a legend now," Tampa Bay coach Jon Gruden said. "I just hope he gets the national credit, the notoriety that a player of this magnitude deserves -- 20 sacks and 20 picks, it's never been done before in the history of football."

Carnell Williams, tam

Williams had 29 carries for 112 yards and two touchdowns in Sunday's 20-10 win at Carolina. It was the first career multi-TD game for the Buccaneers' rookie running back, who also topped 100 rushing yards for the fifth time this season.

12/10/2005

Jay Fiedler, tam

The New York Daily News reported Fiedler is expected to need 4-6 months to recover from surgery on Friday, which repaired a dislocated throwing shoulder.

12/9/2005

Matt Bryant, tam

Bryant expanded his workouts a bit on Thursday and reported no problems with his strained hamstring. The Buccaneers' kicker, who missed last weekend's loss to the Chicago Bears with the injury, hopes to be available for Sunday's matchup with the Carolina Panthers. He remains listed as questionable on the injury report and likely will be a game-time decision.

12/8/2005

Jay Fiedler, tam

Fiedler has been slow to recover since injuring his right shoulder in Week 3, and he has decided to undergo surgery to correct the problem. As a result, the Jets' veteran quarterback will not return to action this season, and he'll be placed on injured reserve in the near future. With regular starter Chad Pennington also out for the year, Brooks Bollinger and Vinny Testaverde will continue to handle the QB duties for New York the rest of the campaign.

12/7/2005

Matt Bryant, tam

According to Buccaneers head coach Jon Gruden, Bryant will return to action this weekend, as long as he is cleared by the team's medical staff. The kicker was unable to play last Sunday after straining his hamstring on a kickoff in a loss to the Chicago Bears in Week 12, leaving the duties to Todd France. Bryant got in some work during the Bucs' practice on Wednesday, but did not participate in all his normal drills.

12/5/2005

Jay Fiedler, tam

It is looking more likely that Fiedler will miss the rest of the 2005 campaign with the right shoulder injury he suffered in a Week 3 loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars. According to Jets head coach Herman Edwards, the veteran quarterback has yet to return to practice, and the team currently does not have a timetable for him to do so. Brooks Bollinger will remain atop the Jets' depth chart going forward.

Ronde Barber, tam

Barber intercepted three passes in the Buccaneers' victory over the New Orleans Saints on Sunday, matching a career high for picks in a game. The veteran cornerback's last and only other three-pick outing came in 2001, coincidentally also against the Saints.

12/4/2005

Toniu Fonoti, tam

Fonoti, who was acquired in a trade with the San Diego Chargers in October, has been placed on injured reserve by the Minnesota Vikings, ending his 2005 campaign. The offensive lineman will miss the rest of the season with a severely strained groin. Defensive end Eric Taylor was promoted from the practice squad to fill the void on the roster.

Matt Bryant, tam

Bryant will be inactive for Sunday's matchup with the New Orleans Saints, due to the hamstring injury he suffered on a kickoff against the Chicago Bears last week. In his absence, Todd France will be promoted from the practice squad to handle the Buccaneers' kicking duties.

Todd France, tam

France has been promoted from the Buccaneers' practice squad, and he will handle the team's kicking duties in Sunday's matchup with the New Orleans Saints, replacing regular starter Matt Bryant, who is inactive with a hamstring injury.

12/2/2005

Anthony Becht, tam

Becht has been playing with a very sore knee over the past few weeks, and the ailment forced him to miss the Buccaneers' practice on Wednesday. However, the veteran tight end took part in the team's workout on Thursday and expects to be in the starting lineup for Sunday's matchup with the New Orleans Saints.

Matt Bryant, tam

Due to a strained hamstring, Bryant continues to be listed as questionable on the Buccaneers' injury report, but after failing to practice with the team all week, it appears unlikely that he'll be available for Sunday's meeting with the New Orleans Saints. As insurance, the team added Todd France to their practice squad earlier this week, and he will handle the kicking duties should Bryant be held out.

11/30/2005

Todd France, tam

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have added France to their practice squad, supplying them with some insurance in case regular kicker Matt Bryant is unable to recover from the minor hamstring injury he suffered last weekend. France appeared in three games with the Eagles earlier this season and hit six of his seven field-goal attempts and was perfect on five point-after tries.

J.R. Russell, tam

Russell has been released by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, opening a spot on the roster for running back Derek Watson, who was promoted from the practice squad on Tuesday. The receiver, who was taken in the seventh round of this year's draft, did not appear in a regular-season game.

Derek Watson, tam

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have promoted Watson from their practice squad, filling the roster spot of receiver J.R. Russell, who was released on Tuesday. The undrafted rookie running back has yet to appear in a regular-season NFL game.

11/29/2005

Jamie Winborn, tam

Winborn has been placed on injured reserve by the Jacksonville Jaguars, officially bringing his 2005 campaign to an end. The linebacker, who is battling a knee injury, began the season with the San Francisco 49ers, but was dealt to the Jaguars in early October after losing his starting job to Andre Carter. In eight games overall, he recorded 17 tackles.

11/28/2005

Joey Galloway, tam

A week after getting shut out by the Atlanta Falcons, Galloway got back on track in Sunday's loss to the Chicago Bears, hauling in seven passes for 138 yards. The veteran receiver, who has been the primary target in the Buccaneers' passing attack this season, now has topped the 100-yard mark four times this year.

Matt Bryant, tam

Bryant is expected to be limited in practice this week after suffering a minor right hamstring strain on a kickoff in Sunday's loss to the Chicago Bears. The Buccaneers' kicker will be re-evaluated on Thursday or Friday to determine his availability for next weekend's matchup with the New Orleans Saints.

11/22/2005

Anthony Becht, tam

Becht likely will be limited in practice this week, due to the sprained right knee he suffered in Sunday's win over the Atlanta Falcons. Despite the injury, the tight end was able to remain in the Buccaneers' lineup and finish the game.

11/21/2005

Joey Galloway, tam

Galloway, who has been the Buccaneers' most productive receiver this season, was held without a catch in Sunday's 30-27 victory over the Atlanta Falcons. Going into the game, the veteran wideout had posted five or more receptions in eight of nine contests this year, and had found the end zone in six of his last seven games, including four straight.

Carnell Williams, tam

Limited by a sprained foot and strained hamstring, Williams averaged just 20.5 yards per contest over his previous four games going into Sunday's matchup with Atlanta. However, the Buccaneers' rookie running back returned to his early season form, rushing for 116 yards and a touchdown on 19 carries in a 30-27 victory over the Falcons. He also added three catches for 13 yards.

11/17/2005

Michael Clayton, tam

As he had hoped, Clayton worked out with the Buccaneers on Wednesday and reported no major problems with his bruised right knee. The receiver plans to return to the starting lineup for Sunday's meeting with the Atlanta Falcons following a one-game absence. Clayton has been a bit of a disappointment this season after topping the 1,000-yard mark in his rookie campaign. Through eight games, he's hauled in 25 passes for 275 yards, but he has yet to find the end zone.

11/15/2005

Michael Clayton, tam

On Monday, Clayton reported significant improvement in his bruised right knee. Barring any setbacks, the second-year receiver will return to practice with the Buccaneers later this week in preparation for Sunday's meeting with the Atlanta Falcons. Veteran Ike Hilliard got the starting nod in his absence last weekend.

11/14/2005

Jay Fiedler, tam

Fiedler continues to expand his individual workouts, but he has yet to resume throwing during the Jets' practices. According to head coach Herman Edwards, the quarterback, who has been sidelined for nearly two months with a dislocated right (throwing) shoulder, is still at least a couple weeks away from being ready for any type of game action. Until that time, Brooks Bollinger is expected to remain under center for New York.

Joey Galloway, tam

Galloway hauled in seven passes for 131 yards and a touchdown in Sunday's victory over the Washington Redskins. The Buccaneers' veteran receiver has found the end zone seven times in his last seven games, including four consecutive contests.

Mike Alstott, tam

With Carnell Williams and Michael Pittman at less than 100 percent, the Buccaneers dispersed the rushing load in Sunday's meeting with the Washington Redskins, giving Alstott his most extensive work all season. The veteran fullback finished with 21 yards and two touchdowns on nine carries.

Chris Simms, tam

Simms had the best game of his career on Sunday throwing for career highs of 279 yards and three touchdowns as he led the Buccaneers to a win over the Redskins. It was also the first time he was not sacked in a game in five career starts after going down 16 times in his previous four starts.

Michael Clayton, tam

After missing practice much of the week because of a bruised right knee, Clayton was inactive for Sunday's battle with the Washington Redskins. In the receiver's absence, veteran Ike Hilliard got the starting nod for the Buccaneers, opposite Joey Galloway.

Matt Kranchick, tam

The Pittsburgh Steelers have promoted Kranchick from their practice squad, filling the roster spot of veteran Willie Williams, who was released by the team on Sunday. The tight end, who was a sixth-round pick in the 2004 NFL Draft, will serve as a backup to Heath Miller and Jerame Tuman.

11/11/2005

Ike Hilliard, tam

With Michael Clayton highly questionable with a bruised knee, Hilliard will get the starting nod opposite Joey Galloway in Sunday's meeting with the Washington Redskins, according to Buccaneers head coach Jon Gruden. The veteran receiver, who inked with Tampa Bay this summer after spending his first eight NFL campaigns with the New York Giants, has 17 catches for 114 yards in eight games this season.

Michael Clayton, tam

Clayton continues to be sidelined after bruising his right knee in the first quarter of last weekend's loss to the Carolina Panthers, and he's been unable to practice with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers all week. Officially listed as questionable on the injury report, it does not appear that the receiver will be ready for Sunday's meeting with the Washington Redskins, barring a very quick recovery.

11/10/2005

Michael Pittman, tam

Pittman continues to be bothered by the shoulder stinger that has plagued him the majority of the season, and he was held out of the Buccaneers' workout on Wednesday. The Bucs have listed the running back as questionable on this week's injury report, but they expect him to be available for backup duty in Sunday's matchup with the Washington Redskins, even if he doesn't get in much practice time over the next couple of days.

11/9/2005

Michael Clayton, tam

Nursing a sore knee, Clayton did not practice with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Wednesday. The receiver hopes to return to the field over the next couple of days and be ready for Sunday's meeting with the Washington Redskins. He has been listed as questionable for the contest.

11/8/2005

David Boston, tam

Due to continued problems with his surgically repaired left knee, Boston has been placed on injured reserve by the Miami Dolphins, officially bringing his 2005 campaign to an end. The oft-injured receiver missed the entire 2004 season with a torn tendon in the same knee. He finishes the year with just four catches for 80 yards in five games. Cliff Russell was signed to fill the void on the 53-man roster.

Carnell Williams, tam

According to Buccaneers head coach Jon Gruden, Williams likely will be forced to play through discomfort in his foot the remainder of the 2005 campaign. As a result, the team might get other running backs more involved in the offense going forward, meaning Michael Pittman, Earnest Graham and Mike Alstott should see a few more opportunities, unless Williams suddenly becomes pain-free.

11/6/2005

David Boston, tam

Due to the nagging knee injury that prevented him from practicing with the Dolphins this week, Boston has been ruled out of Sunday's battle with the Atlanta Falcons. Wes Welker will see more time in his absence.

11/4/2005

David Boston, tam

A slight chance remains that Boston will be able to take the field this weekend, but at this point, the Dolphins are planning to be without his services. The receiver, who officially is listed as questionable on the injury report, has been unable to practice this week, due to a nagging knee injury.

11/3/2005

Antoine Cash, tam

Cash has been released by the Atlanta Falcons. The linebacker, who has just two tackles in three games this season, will be replaced on the 53-man roster by Artie Ulmer.

11/2/2005

Michael Pittman, tam

Pittman was held out of practice on Wednesday, as the Buccaneers do not want his nagging shoulder injury to get any worse than it already is. The veteran running back has been playing through pain the majority of the season, and he currently is listed as questionable for Sunday's matchup with the Carolina Panthers. In seven games this year, Pittman has rushed for 257 yards and a touchdown on 45 carries and hauled in 18 passes for 171 yards and a score.

10/31/2005

Joey Galloway, tam

Galloway continues to be the go-to guy in the Buccaneers' passing attack this season, as he hauled in eight balls for 149 yards, including a 78-yard touchdown, in Sunday's loss to the San Francisco 49ers. The veteran receiver's second catch of the day was the 500th reception of his NFL career.

Simeon Rice, tam

Rice was deactivated and sent back to Tampa Bay prior to Sunday's road battle with the San Francisco 49ers. Reportedly, the Buccaneers' defensive end violated a club policy, prompting the one-game penalty. According to general manager Bruce Allen, Rice should be back in the lineup next week.

10/28/2005

Carnell Williams, tam

As he had hoped, Williams has been able to work out with Buccaneers the past couple of days and has reported no major problems. The rooke running back, who missed the team's last two games and sat out much of the bye week with a strained hamstring and sprained left foot, remains listed as questionable on the injury report and reportedly will be a game-time decision.

10/25/2005

Todd France, tam

Despite doing a solid job in the absence of regular kicker David Akers, France has been released by the Philadelphia Eagles, opening a spot on the roster for Jose Cortez, who was claimed off waivers from the Dallas Cowboys on Tuesday. In three games this season, France nailed six of his seven field-goal attempts and was perfect on five point-after tries.

Carnell Williams, tam

After missing the Buccaneers' last two games and sitting out much of the team's bye week with a strained hamstring and sprained left foot, Williams plans to return to practice later this week. The rookie running back is expected to be listed as questionable on the Bucs' injury report, but barring any setbacks, he should be good to go for Sunday's meeting with the San Francisco 49ers.

10/19/2005

Toniu Fonoti, tam

Fonoti was traded to the Minnesota Vikings in return for a conditional seventh-round draft pick. Drafted in the second round in 2002 by the San Diego Chargers, he had made 32 starts in 33 games before being sidelined with a broken hand in the team's second game this year.

Chris Simms, tam

With starter Brian Griese landing on injured reserve, Simms takes over as the Buccaneers' quarterback. He came on in the second quarter when Griese went down in the Bucs' 23-16 win over the Miami Dolphins last Sunday, completing six of 10 passes for 69 yards.

10/18/2005

Tim Rattay, tam

The San Francisco 49ers have traded Rattay to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in exchange for an undisclosed future draft pick. With starter Brian Griese likely out for the season with a knee injury, Chris Simms will take over as the Bucs' top quarterback, while Rattay will supply the team with an experienced backup. Second-year QB Luke McCown is the other signal caller on Tampa Bay's roster.

Rick Razzano, tam

Razzano has been released by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, opening a spot on the roster for quarterback Tim Rattay, who was acquired in a trade from the San Francisco 49ers on Tuesday. The rookie fullback has not played this season after being suspended for four games by the NFL for violating the league's substance abuse policy.

10/17/2005

Michael Pittman, tam

Pittman shook off a sore shoulder to start Sunday's meeting with the Miami Dolphins, filling in for rookie Carnell Williams, who was inactive with a foot and hamstring injuries. The Buccaneers' veteran running back more than held his own, rushing for 127 yards and a touchdown on 15 carries. He also hauled in an 11-yard pass.

10/16/2005

Michael Pittman, tam

ESPN is reporting that Carnell Williams will not be in the Tampa Bay backfield on Sunday against the Dolphins, and Pittman is expected to start in his place despite nursing a sore shoulder. He will face a tough Miami run defense. Pittman has 26 rushes for 125 yards and a 4.8 yards-per-carry average. He also has caught 16 passes for 157 yards and his only touchdown this season.

Carnell Williams, tam

ESPN is reporting that Williams will not play for Tampa Bay on Sunday, when the Bucs host the Miami Dolphins. It was widely reported late this week that the rookie running back was experiencing no problems with his strained hamstring and sprained left foot, but now ESPN is saying Michael Pittman will start in place of Williams.

10/13/2005

Carnell Williams, tam

Williams returned to practice with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Wednesday and reported no major problems with his strained hamstring and sprained left foot. As long as he doesn't suffer any setbacks over the next couple of days, the rookie running back plans to be in the lineup for Sunday's meeting with the Miami Dolphins. Officially, he has been listed as questionable on the Bucs' injury report, not probable as head coach Jon Gruden predicted earlier in the week.

10/12/2005

Ronde Barber, tam

Barber has been fined $30,000 by the NFL for inadvertently hitting umpire Butch Hannah in the eye during a scuffle with Kevin Mawae of the New York Jets last weekend. The Buccaneers' veteran defensive back was not ejected from the game for his actions.

10/10/2005

David Boston, tam

Boston had been listed as probable on the Dolphins' injury report last week, but was held out of Sunday's game against the Buffalo Bills, due to swelling in his left knee. The receiver, who missed the entire 2004 campaign after undergoing surgery to repair a torn tendon in the knee, currently is considered day-to-day.

Carnell Williams, tam

According to Buccaneers head coach Jon Gruden, Williams should return to the lineup when the team takes the field against the Miami Dolphins next weekend, barring any setbacks. The rookie running back, who missed Sunday's loss to the New York Jets with a strained hamstring and sprained foot, will be listed as probable on this week's injury report. Williams spent the majority of last week on the sidelines with his foot in a protective boot.

10/9/2005

Michael Pittman, tam

Nursing a strained hamstring and sprained foot, rookie Carnell Williams has been ruled out of Sunday's matchup with the New York Jets. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers now will turn to Pittman to fill the void in the backfield. Primarily in a backup role this season, the veteran running back has rushed for 79 yards on 13 carries, and hauled in nine passes for 116 yards and a touchdown.

Michael Clayton, tam

Although he still has some lingering soreness in his bruised shoulder, Clayton will be in the Buccaneers' starting lineup when the team takes the field against the New York Jets on Sunday. As a precautionary measure, the receiver was limited in practice this week and showed up as probable on the injury report.

Carnell Williams, tam

Williams showed improvement on a daily basis, but still was unable to practice with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers this week. As a result, the rookie running back, who is nursing a sprained foot and strained hamstring, will not play in Sunday's meeting with the New York Jets. He had been listed as questionable on the team's injury report. Michael Pittman will get the starting nod in Williams' absence.

10/7/2005

Jamie Winborn, tam

The San Francisco 49ers have traded Winborn to the Jacksonville Jaguars in exchange for a conditional draft pick. The linebacker, who has 13 tackles in three games this season, fell out of favor with the Niners last month and lost his starting job to Andre Carter.

Jermaine Phillips, tam

Phillips likely won't be ready for Sunday's game against the New York Jets after breaking his thumb in last weekend's victory over the Detroit Lions. The safety is officially listed as questionable, but the injury has prevented him from practicing all week.

10/6/2005

Matt Stinchcomb, tam

After being inactive for Tampa Bay's first four games of the season with a back problem, Stinchcomb has been placed on injured reserve by the Buccaneers. The veteran offensive lineman will miss the rest of the 2005 campaign. Center Scott Jackson was promoted from the practice squad to fill the void on the roster.

Carnell Williams, tam

Williams' strained hamstring has improved this week, but the Buccaneers are more concerned with his sprained foot. The rookie running back admitted that it might be smart for him to sit out a game and let his injuries heal, while head coach Jon Gruden indicated Williams would have to improve significantly over the next couple of days to have any shot at playing this weekend. Officially, he has been listed as questionable.

Scott Jackson, tam

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have promoted Jackson from their practice squad, filling the roster spot of veteran offensive lineman Matt Stinchcomb, who will miss the rest of the season with a back injury. Jackson, a center, will serve as a backup on the Bucs' offensive front.

10/5/2005

Tim Rattay, tam

The San Francisco 49ers have decided to make a change at quarterback after getting off to a 1-3 start this season with Rattay at the helm. Rookie Alex Smith, who was the top overall pick in this year's draft, will step into the No. 1 spot and make his first NFL regular-season start in Sunday's meeting with the Indianapolis Colts, dropping Rattay to a backup role.

10/4/2005

Toniu Fonoti, tam

Fonoti's broken right hand continues to give him problems, and he will be forced to undergo another surgery. The Chargers' left guard, who has missed the team's last two games after having a plate inserted into the hand, is expected to be sidelined for at least another couple of weeks.

10/3/2005

Joey Galloway, tam

Galloway hauled in seven passes for 166 yards, including an 80-yard touchdown, in Sunday's 17-13 victory over the Detroit Lions. The 100-yard performance was the veteran receiver's first in more than two years. He has three touchdowns in his last two games.

Michael Pittman, tam

The Buccaneers kept Pittman very much involved in their offensive attack in Sunday's victory over the Detroit Lions. The veteran running back had six catches for 96 yards and a touchdown, while also leading the team with 30 yards on five carries.

Tim Rattay, tam

Rattay was pulled from the 49ers lineup in the fourth quarter of Sunday's loss to the Arizona Cardinals after failing to lead the team on a scoring drive. The quarterback, who was replaced by rookie Alex Smith, was 11 of 21 for 126 yards with two turnovers -- an interception and lost fumble -- prior to his departure. According to head coach Mike Nolan, Rattay should return to the starting lineup next week, but the team will evaluate both QBs before making a decision.

Michael Clayton, tam

Clayton likely will be limited in practice early this week after suffering a bruised shoulder in Sunday's victory over the Detroit Lions. Although the Buccaneers' receiver was able to play through the injury, he finished the game with just two catches for 11 yards. For the year, he has 17 receptions for 196 yards, but has yet to find the end zone.

Carnell Williams, tam

Despite missing some practice time last week with a sprained foot, Williams was in the Buccaneers' starting lineup for Sunday's matchup with the Detroit Lions. However, the Bucs' rookie running back strained his left hamstring in the third quarter and was forced to watch the rest of the game from the sidelines. He will be re-evaluated over the next couple of days to determine the extent of the injury, but he seemed optimistic that he'd be ready for Tampa's next game.

10/2/2005

Jamie Winborn, tam

At the request of head coach Mike Nolan, Winborn has left the San Francisco 49ers, and reportedly, he could be traded before the end of the weekend. The linebacker has fallen out of favor with the club after losing his starting job to Andre Carter earlier this month. He has 13 tackles in three games in 2005.

Carnell Williams, tam

Williams practiced with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Wednesday, albeit on a limited basis. The team is being cautious with the rookie running back, who is nursing a sprained foot. However, the injury is considered very minor, and Williams has been listed as probable for Sunday's meeting with the Detroit Lions. He'll be in the starting lineup this weekend.

9/28/2005

Jay Fiedler, tam

After seeking a second opinion from Dr. James Andrews, Fiedler has been diagnosed with a dislocated right shoulder. According to Jets head coach Herman Edwards, the veteran quarterback will be sidelined indefinitely, but there is a chance he could return this season. Fiedler suffered the injury while filling in for regular starter Chad Pennington last weekend.

Todd France, tam

Due to a torn hamstring, David Akers already has been ruled out of Sunday's meeting with the Kansas City Chiefs. As a result, the Philadelphia Eagles will promote France from their practice squad and look to him to handle the team's kicking duties this weekend. He was in training camp with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers this year, but lost out on a job to Matt Bryant.

9/27/2005

Jay Fiedler, tam

According to Jets head coach Herman Edwards, it appears the right shoulder injury Fiedler suffered in Sunday's game against the Jacksonville Jaguars, could force him to miss the rest of the season. The veteran quarterback has traveled to Alabama to get a second opinion from Dr. James Andrews to determine the severity of the injury. Regardless, he will be sidelined indefinitely.

Wesly Mallard, tam

Mallard has been waived by the New England Patriots. The reserve linebacker has seen limited action this season, notching just two tackles in two games. His spot on the roster was not immediately filled.

9/26/2005

Jay Fiedler, tam

Fiedler didn't last very long in Sunday's overtime loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars, leaving the game after just six plays, due to a right (throwing) shoulder injury. The veteran quarterback took over after starter Chad Pennington suffered a shoulder injury of his own early in the second half. He will be re-evaluated on Monday to determine the extent of the problem.

Joey Galloway, tam

After going without a catch in last week's victory over the Buffalo Bills, Galloway got back on track in Sunday's win over the Green Bay Packers, hauling in five passes for 53 yards and his first two touchdowns of the 2005 campaign. The Buccaneers' veteran receiver has 10 receptions for 150 yards on the year.

Carnell Williams, tam

Williams was busy in Sunday's win over the Green Bay Packers, carrying the ball a career-high 37 times for 158 yards, notching his third consecutive 100-yard performance. With 434, the Buccaneers' rookie running back now holds the all-time record for most rushing yardage in the first three games of his NFL career, breaking the mark previously held by Alan Ameche.

9/25/2005

Carnell Williams, tam

Williams practiced both Thursday and Friday without incident, and will be in the starting lineup today against the Green Bay Packers.

9/23/2005

Jerald Sowell, tam

Sowell made it through Thursday's practice without and problems, prompting the Jets to upgrade him from questionable to probable on the injury report for Sunday's meeting with the Jacksonville Jaguars. The fullback was limited earlier this week after spraining his ankle in last weekend's victory over the Miami Dolphins.

9/22/2005

Toniu Fonoti, tam

Fonoti likely will not be available for Sunday's game against New York Giants after having a plate surgically inserted into his broken right hand on Wednesday. The Chargers' offensive lineman suffered the injury during practice last week.

Carnell Williams, tam

Receiving treatment on a daily basis, Williams has reported that his sprained left foot continues to show improvement, and the injury will not prevent him from missing any time in Sunday's meeting with the Green Bay Packers. The Buccaneers have been limiting the rookie running back's work in practice this week, purely as a precautionary measure. Through two games, Williams has 276 yards and two touchdowns on 51 carries.

9/20/2005

9/19/2005

Tim Rattay, tam

Rattay posted his worst passer rating as a starter in Sunday's loss to the Philadelphia Eagles, finishing with a dismal 21.3 mark. The 49ers' quarterback went 13 of 26 for 107 yards, three interceptions and no touchdowns. He was sacked three times as well.

Carnell Williams, tam

Coming off last weekend's 148-yard performance in his NFL regular-season debut, Williams rushed for 128 yards and a touchdown on 24 carries in Sunday's win over the Buffalo Bills. The Buccaneers' rookie running back posted the impressive totals despite playing with a sprained left foot, an injury suffered in the first half of the contest.

9/17/2005

9/15/2005

Torrie Cox, tam

After being stopped for driving under the influence for the second time in the last 10 months earlier this week, Cox will not play in Sunday's matchup with the Buffalo Bills, according to Buccaneers head coach Jon Gruden. The cornerback had just one tackle in the team's opener last weekend.

9/14/2005

Michael Pittman, tam

Pittman, who lost his starting tailback job rookie Carnell Williams this season, saw action at both running back positions, tight end and wide receiver in Sunday's season opener against the Minnesota Vikings. However, the Buccaneers' veteran touched the ball only once, resulting in a dropped pass.

9/13/2005

Torrie Cox, tam

After refusing a blood alcohol test in a traffic stop early Tuesday morning, Cox was jailed and charged with driving under the influence. The Buccaneers' backup cornerback, who was arrested for DUI last December as well, likely will face a fine and/or suspension from the NFL if convicted.

9/12/2005

Carnell Williams, tam

Williams had a solid regular-season debut in Sunday's victory over the Minnesota Vikings, rushing for 148 yards on 27 carries. Nearly half of the rookie running back's total for the game came on a 71-yard touchdown run with less than two minutes remaining in the contest. Williams was the fifth overall pick in this year's draft.

Alex Smith, tam

Smith was very much involved in the Buccaneers' offense in Sunday's season-opening victory over the Minnesota Vikings, especially in the red zone. The rookie tight end, who was a third-round pick in this year's draft, hauled in four passes for 34 yards and two touchdowns.

9/7/2005

Mark Jones, tam

8/30/2005

Charlie Garner, tam

Despite playing successfully for Jon Gruden in the past, Garner was cut on Tuesday by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The running back missed the majority of the team's offseason workouts, as well as most of training camp, due to the knee injury that limited him to just three games in 2004. He finished last season with 111 yards on 30 carries, along with nine receptions for 62 yards.

8/25/2005

Mike Alstott, tam

After missing some time earlier this month with a neck stinger, Alstott has been practicing with the Buccaneers for more than a week and has reported no problems. As a result, the veteran fullback is expected to play in this weekend's exhibition game against the Miami Dolphins, his first preseason action.

8/23/2005

Tim Rattay, tam

The 49ers have named Rattay as the starting quarterback to open the season. According to head coach Mike Nolan, the third-year QB's experience earned him the job over rookie, and first pick of last year's draft, Alex Smith. Smith had struggled in his first two preseason games, and will start the year as the second string quarterback.

8/22/2005

Jonathan Carter, tam

Carter has been released by the New York Jets. The wide receiver/kick returner played in 13 games last season, hauling in 10 passes for 173 yards and a touchdown. He also returned 17 kickoffs, averaging 22 yards per attempt.

8/21/2005

Tim Rattay, tam

Despite being limited earlier this week by inflammation and soreness in his knee, Rattay was able to play in Saturday's exhibition game against the Denver Broncos, as he had hoped. 8/19/2005

Mike Alstott, tam

Alstott missed a few days after suffering a neck stinger in practice last Wednesday, but he has been working out with the Buccaneers all this week without any problems. However, the team might choose to keep him out of Saturday's exhibition matchup with the Jacksonville Jaguars as a precautionary measure.

Tim Rattay, tam

Rattay has been nursing a sore knee over the past couple of weeks, prompting the 49ers to schedule a precautionary MRI. Other than some minor inflammation, the tests did not reveal any structural damage, and the quarterback is expected to be available for this weekend's exhibition meeting with the Denver Broncos.

8/17/2005

David Boston, tam

After sitting out all of last season with a knee injury, Boston has been elevated to the second team on the Dolphins' depth chart. He has four catches for 38 yards in two exhibition games.

8/16/2005

Michael Pittman, tam

Due to a hamstring injury, Pittman has been limited during the Buccaneers' practices recently. However, the ailment is considered minor, and the move to hold him out is precautionary. The running back plans to be ready for the start of the regular season.

8/15/2005

Tim Rattay, tam

With his performance in Saturday's exhibition victory over the Oakland Raiders, Rattay stayed alive in the battle for the 49ers' starting job. 8/11/2005

Wright has signed a one-year deal with the Arizona Cardinals.

7/31/2005

Michael Clayton, tam

Clayton will team with Joey Galloway as the starting wide receiver core for Tampa Bay. In his rookie season, Clayton caught 80 passes for 1,193 yards.

7/30/2005

7/29/2005

Carnell Williams, tam

Williams agreed to terms with the Buccaneers early Friday morning on a deal that had the No. 5 overall selection in the 2005 draft in camp on Friday for the team's first official practice. Details of the contract were not officially released, though reports had the terms pegged at five years and $19 million ($15 million guaranteed). Incentive packages could push the total for the former Auburn standout to as much as $31 million over the life of the pact.

7/27/2005

Barrett Ruud, tam

Ruud and the Buccaneers reportedly have come to terms on a five-year deal that will have the rookie second-round pick ready for the opening of training camp on Thursday. Charlie Garner, tam

Garner continues to recover from a torn patella tendon in his right knee, an injury suffered in a game against the Oakland Raiders last September. The Buccaneers' veteran running back indicated that he was at about 80 percent last month, but he has been progressing slowly since then. There is a good chance that he won't be ready for the start of training camp.

6/16/2005

Michael Clayton, tam

Clayton will not participate in the Buccaneers' minicamp next week as he continues to rest and rehab his surgically repaired left knee. The second-year wideout underwent arthroscopic surgery in February to repair torn cartilage. He reportedly has begun running routes and catching passes, but the team does not want to take any chances with the knee in contact drills at this time. Clayton exploded on the scene last year, catching 80 passes for 1,193 yards and seven scores.

6/13/2005

Akili Smith, tam

The Buccaneers released Smith on Monday, a move that could signal the end of the NFL line for the third overall pick in the 1999 draft. Tampa Bay signed the quarterback in February and allocated him to play for the Frankfurt Galaxy in NFL Europe. The Bucs acquired Luke McCown from the Browns in April, however, and already have Brian Griese and Chris Simms on the roster, making Smith expendable.

Toniu Fonoti, tam

Fonoti reported to Chargers' minicamp on Saturday, telling the team that "personal business" was the reason he missed Friday's mandatory session. The guard also was unable to practice on either Saturday or Sunday due to a badly swollen left ankle that was the result of a spider bite. Fonoti also missed last year's minicamp, and he raised some ire when he was a day late to report to training camp.

6/11/2005

Toniu Fonoti, tam

Fonoti surprised the San Diego Chargers by failing to show up for the first day of the team's minicamp on Friday. Chargers' coach Marty Schottenheimer claims the team had been informed by Fonoti's agent that the offensive lineman would be in camp. Steve Feldman refused to say why his client was a no-show on Friday, but said Fonoti would be there on Saturday.

6/9/2005

Anthony McFarland, tam

McFarland practiced at full speed on Wednesday for the first time since tearing the triceps muscle in his right arm last November. McFarland was limited to just eight games last season, accounting for 10 tackles, two assists and three sacks.

6/6/2005

Charlie Garner, tam

Over the weekend, Garner reported that he continues to recover from surgery to repair the torn patellar tendon in his right knee, and injury suffered in a game against the Oakland Raiders last September. The Buccaneers' running back, who spent the rest of the season on injured reserve, said he is about 80 percent and hopes to be ready for the start of training camp next month.

5/18/2005

David Boston, tam

Boston has re-signed with the Miami Dolphins, agreeing to a one-year contract. The oft-injured receiver missed the entire 2004 campaign after undergoing surgery to repair a torn tendon in his left knee on August 9. He then failed his physical and eventually was released by the team in March. Boston also was suspended for four games by the NFL after testing positive for steroids, costing him $1.34 million since he was on injured reserve.

5/6/2005

Edell Shepherd, tam

Shepherd has re-signed with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, agreeing to a one-year contract. 4/24/2005

Luke McCown, tam

The Cleveland Browns have traded McCown to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in return for the Bucs' sixth-round draft choice in this year's NFL Draft. He'll sit behind Chris Simms and Brian Griese on the Tampa Bay depth chart, and battle Akili Smith for the last QB spot on the roster.
