1/10/2006

Lee Mays, pit
Mays has re-signed with the Pittsburgh Steelers, agreeing to a one-year contract. The receiver was cut just prior to the start of the 2005 campaign after spending the previous three seasons with the club. He takes the roster spot of the injured Quincy Morgan.

Cedrick Wilson, pit
Wilson made the most of his three receptions in Sunday's playoff victory over the Cincinnati Bengals, picking up a team-high 104 yards and a touchdown. His three catches also tied for the team lead, as Steelers' quarterback Ben Roethlisberger found seven different targets in the contest.
Ben Roethlisberger, pit
Roethlisberger tossed only 19 passes in Sunday's Wild Card matchup with the Cincinnati Bengals, but he made the most of the limited attempts, completing 14 for 208 yards, three touchdowns and no interceptions. The Steelers' second-year quarterback also picked up three yards on four rushes and was sacked just once in a 31-17 victory.
1/2/2006
Jerome Bettis, pit
Bettis rushed for 41 yards and three touchdowns in the Steelers' 35-21 win over the Detroit Lions on Sunday in what could have been the running back's final home game in Pittsburgh.
1/1/2006
Ben Roethlisberger, pit
Roethlisberger will play with his injured thumb on Sunday. The Pittsburgh Steelers would have wrapped up the last playoff spot in the AFC if San Diego would have beaten Denver on Saturday, but the Chargers lost to the Broncos, 23-7. The Steelers will be playing to win on Sunday, so Roethlisberger won't be sitting on the sidelines in anticipation of a first-round playoff game.
12/15/2005
Hines Ward, pit
Ward skipped the Steelers' practice on Wednesday to rest his sore ankle, but he was back on the field with the team Thursday, taking part in the full workout. The veteran receiver will be in the lineup for Sunday's tussle with the Minnesota Vikings.
12/12/2005
Jerome Bettis, pit
Bettis was available for duty in Sunday's meeting with the Chicago Bears, despite missing some practice time last week to rest the sore knee that has been bothering him for more than a month. The Steelers' veteran running back didn't appear limited by the ailment, rushing for a team-high 101 yards and two touchdowns on 17 carries.
12/9/2005
Duce Staley, pit
The Pittsburgh Steelers have had some problems on special teams over the past couple of weeks, so running back Verron Haynes is expected to be active for this Sunday's meeting against the Chicago Bears. As a result, Staley likely will be on the team's inactive list, leaving the bulk of the backfield duties to Willie Parker and Jerome Bettis.
12/8/2005
Jerome Bettis, pit
Bettis, who has been nursing a sore knee for more than a month, did not practice with the Pittsburgh Steelers on Wednesday. However, the veteran running back is expected to work out with the team over the next couple of days and be ready for Sunday's tussle with the Chicago Bears. Officially, he has been listed as probable on the injury report.
Ben Roethlisberger, pit
The Steelers have not disclosed whether Roethlisberger's thumb is broken, as has been rumored, but the quarterback has admitted that he'll likely need surgery to repair the damage at some point. However, he plans to wait until after the season, playing the rest of the campaign through considerable pain. Nursing the injury last week, he went 29 of 41 for a personal-best 386 yards and three touchdowns, but was picked off three times and sacked twice.
12/7/2005
Charlie Batch, pit
After missing nearly a month with a broken pinkie finger on his throwing hand, Batch is expected to return to practice this week and be available for Sunday's matchup with the Chicago Bears. The Steelers officially have listed the veteran quarterback as questionable. In three games this season, he is 22 of 35 for 215 yards, one interception and no passing touchdowns, and has rushed 11 times for 30 yards and a score.
Marvel Smith, pit
Smith continues to be hobbled by ankle problems, and he will be unavailable for Sunday's matchup with the Chicago Bears. The Steelers' starting left tackle missed a game against the Ravens last month with a sprained left ankle, returned to action a week later, only to twist his right ankle. He will continue to receive treatment on a daily basis.
12/5/2005
Hines Ward, pit
Ward had his best game of the 2005 campaign on Sunday, but it wasn't enough, as the Steelers finished a touchdown short in a 38-31 loss to the Cincinnati Bengals. The veteran receiver hauled in nine Ben Roethlisberger passes for 135 yards and two touchdowns. He has found the end zone four times in his last four games.
Ben Roethlisberger, pit
Despite a very sore thumb on his throwing hand, Roethlisberger was in the Steelers' lineup for Sunday's matchup with the Cincinnati Bengals, as he had hoped. After falling behind early, Pittsburgh was forced to go to the air, resulting in a career-high 41 pass attempts for the second-year quarterback. He completed 29 for a personal-best 386 yards and three touchdowns, but was picked off three times and sacked twice.
12/4/2005
Ben Roethlisberger, pit
As anticipated, Roethlisberger will be under center when the Pittsburgh Steelers take the field against the Cincinnati Bengals on Sunday. The quarterback continues to be bothered by a very sore thumb on his right (throwing) hand, but he has been equipped with a protective device and will wear gloves as a precautionary measure.
12/1/2005
Ben Roethlisberger, pit
In addition to the knee problems that have plagued him the majority of the 2005 campaign, Roethlisberger now is nursing a sprained ankle and sore thumb on his right (throwing) hand, according to head coach Bill Cowher. The quarterback shows up as probable on this week's injury report, and he plans to be ready for Sunday's meeting with the Cincinnati Bengals.
11/29/2005
Duce Staley, pit
The Pittsburgh Steelers plan to use Staley, Willie Parker and Jerome Bettis in their rushing attack each game going forward. Staley has been on and off the active roster since recovering from knee surgery, but he's slated to serve as the team's third-down back the remainder of the 2005 campaign. Parker will remain in the starting role and handle the majority of the carries, with Bettis getting the call in short-yardage/goal-line situations.
Ben Roethlisberger, pit
As anticipated, Roethlisberger was back under center for the Steelers in Monday night's meeting with the Indianapolis Colts after missing the team's previous three games while recovering from minor knee surgery. The quarterback completed 17 of his 26 pass attempts for 133 yards, two touchdowns and one interception. He also picked up 21 yards on three carries, but was sacked three times.
11/28/2005
Willie Parker, pit
Parker, who has been nursing a sore ankle recently, will be in the Steelers' starting lineup when they take the field against the Indianapolis Colts Monday night. The running back should get the majority of the carries, but veterans Jerome Bettis and Duce Staley are expected to figure into the mix as well.
11/25/2005
Marvel Smith, pit
Smith, who missed last Sunday's game with a sprained ankle, is expected to line up for the Steelers at left tackle in Monday's game against the Indianapolis Colts. The sixth-year veteran reportedly told Steelers coach Bill Cowher last week that he could play, but was ruled out.
Ben Roethlisberger, pit
Roethlisberger ran the Steelers' offense in practice Wednesday for the first time in nearly a month after missing three straight games with knee injuries. The Pittsburgh quarterback, who had right knee surgery on Nov. 3, said he expects to be ready to play in Monday night's game against the Indianapolis Colts. Roethlisberger has thrown only 44 passes in the last six weeks (two games).
11/22/2005
Tommy Maddox, pit
With Ben Roethlisberger expected to return to the Steelers' starting lineup for Monday night's battle with the undefeated Indianapolis Colts, Maddox will slip down a spot on the team's depth chart and resume his duties as a backup. The veteran quarterback has appeared in five games this season, including two starts, going 34 of 71 for 406 yards, two touchdowns and four interceptions. He's also been sacked eight times and lost two fumbles.
Ben Roethlisberger, pit
Roethlisberger plans to practice at full speed with the Steelers later this week, and if no problems are reported, he will be under center when the team takes the field against the Indianapolis Colts next Monday night, according to head coach Bill Cowher. The quarterback has missed the Steelers' last two games after undergoing a minor surgery to repair damage in his right knee.
11/21/2005
Willie Parker, pit
After missing one game while recovering from a sprained ankle, Parker returned to the feature back role for the Steelers' matchup with the Baltimore Ravens on Sunday. The second-year running back rushed for 59 yards on 18 carries and hauled in two passes for 22 yards and a touchdown.
11/20/2005
Jerome Bettis, pit
Bettis will suit up for today's game against the Baltimore Ravens as backup to returning starter Willie Parker.
Duce Staley, pit
With starter Willie Parker's return to the Pittsburgh lineup, Staley has been listed as inactive for today's game against the Baltimore Ravens.
Charlie Batch, pit
As expected, Batch will be inactive today when the Steelers visit the Baltimore Ravens.
11/19/2005
Willie Williams, pit
The Steelers re-signed Williams on Saturday, just days after waiving the veteran cornerback. The Steelers had waived Williams in order to activate tight end Matt Kranchick for last Sunday night's game against the Browns, but cut Kranchick today.
Marvel Smith, pit
Listed as doubtful with an ankle injury, Smith will be a game-time decision for Pittsburgh's game against the Baltimore Ravens. Smith was not able to practice at all this week. If he cannot go, look for rookie Trai Essex to make his first career start at left tackle.
Trai Essex, pit
With Marvel Smith a game-time decision for the Steelers' game against Baltimore, Essex could make his first career start at left tackle on Sunday. The rookie has been inactive for all nine games this season.
11/17/2005
Tommy Maddox, pit
With Ben Roethlisberger not quite recovered from minor knee surgery and Charlie Batch out at least a couple of weeks with a broken finger, Maddox will get the starting nod against the Baltimore Ravens on Sunday, according to Steelers head coach Bill Cowher. The veteran quarterback has struggled in four appearances this season, going 15 of 35 for 176 yards, one touchdown, three interceptions and a lost fumble.
Duce Staley, pit
Despite filling in admirably over the past couple of weeks, Staley likely will find himself back on the bench or even on the inactive list for Sunday's matchup with the Baltimore Ravens. According to Steelers head coach Bill Cowher, Willie Parker will return to the starting lineup this weekend after missing one game with an ankle injury, and Jerome Bettis (knee/quad) should be available for backup duty.
Ben Roethlisberger, pit
Roethlisberger needs a little more time to recover before reclaiming the Steelers' starting job, so Tommy Maddox will get the nod in Sunday's meeting with the Baltimore Ravens, according to head coach Bill Cowher. The second-year quarterback, who is recovering from minor knee surgery, should be available for backup duties, if needed. With Charlie Batch sidelined with a broken finger, receiver Antwaan Randle El will serve as the team's No. 3 emergency QB.
Willie Parker, pit
According to Steelers head coach Bill Cowher, Parker will return to the starting lineup for Sunday's matchup with the Baltimore Ravens. Nursing a sprained ankle, the running back was held out of last weekend's victory over the Cleveland Browns as a precautionary measure, but he returned to practice with the team on Wednesday. In eight games this season, Parker has 615 yards and three touchdowns on 132 carries.
11/15/2005
Ben Roethlisberger, pit
Continuing to recover from minor arthroscopic surgery on his troublesome right knee, Roethlisberger made some throws without any major problems on Tuesday. The Steelers will evaluate the quarterback at practice on Wednesday to see if he will be ready to return to the starting lineup for Sunday's meeting with the Baltimore Ravens. At this point, he is considered questionable.
11/14/2005
Willie Williams, pit
Williams has been released by the Pittsburgh Steelers. The veteran cornerback began the 2005 campaign in the starting lineup, but eventually lost the top job to Ike Taylor and had been inactive for the team's past several contests. He will be replaced on the roster by tight end Matt Kranchick.
Charlie Batch, pit
Tests have confirmed that Batch has a broken pinky finger on his right hand, an injury suffered when he hit another player's helmet in the first half of Sunday's win over the Cleveland Browns. According to Steelers head coach Bill Cowher, the veteran quarterback likely will be sidelined for about two weeks. In three games this season, he is 22 of 35 for 215 yards, one interception and no passing touchdowns, and has rushed 11 times for 30 yards and a score.
Hines Ward, pit
After notching just one reception in last week's win over the Packers, Ward got back on track in Sunday's victory over the Cleveland Browns, hauling in eight passes for a season-high 124 yards and a touchdown. The Steelers' wideout now has 543 receptions in his career, breaking the franchise record of 537, formerly held by Hall of Famer John Stallworth.
Willie Parker, pit
With Duce Staley and Jerome Bettis healthy and available, the Pittsburgh Steelers decided to give Parker some extra time to rest his sprained ankle, holding him out of Sunday night's meeting with the Cleveland Browns. The running back was able to return to practice late in the week, but the ankle wasn't quite ready for game action. He will be re-evaluated over the next couple of days to get an update on his status.
11/12/2005
Willie Parker, pit
Hampered by an ankle injury, Parker practiced for the first time all week on Friday, but is still listed as a game-time decision for Pittsburgh's game against the Cleveland Browns on Sunday.
11/11/2005
Jerome Bettis, pit
Although he hasn't practiced with the Steelers this week, Bettis has reported significant improvement in his sore knee/quadriceps, and barring any setbacks, he will be in uniform for Sunday's meeting with the Cleveland Browns. The veteran running back continues to be listed as questionable on the injury report, but at this point, it appears he will be cleared to play.
Willie Parker, pit
Parker was unable to practice with the Steelers on Thursday, and even though he continues to be listed as questionable on the injury report, it appears the team likely will hold him out of Sunday's matchup with the Cleveland Browns. The running back has been sidelined since spraining his left ankle in last weekend's win over the Green Bay Packers.
11/10/2005
Willie Parker, pit
At this point, it appears that Parker will be unavailable for Sunday's matchup with the Cleveland Browns, due to the sprained left ankle he suffered in last weekend's win over the Green Bay Packers, but he remains optimistic that he'll be ready. The running back was unable to practice with the Steelers on Wednesday, and he has been listed as questionable on the injury report. In eight games this season, Parker has 615 yards and three touchdowns on 132 carries.
11/9/2005
Jerome Bettis, pit
Bettis likely will miss his second consecutive game, according to Steelers head coach Bill Cowher, as he continues to be bothered by soreness in his knee/quadriceps. The veteran running back, who was downgraded to doubtful after not practicing with the team last week, initially will be listed as questionable on this week's injury report, Cowher said.
Duce Staley, pit
With Jerome Bettis (knee) and Willie Parker (ankle) limited by injury and questionable for this weekend's action, Staley likely will get the starting nod and handle the majority of the carries in Sunday's matchup with the Cleveland Browns, according to Steelers head coach Bill Cowher. The veteran running back made his 2005 regular-season debut last weekend, rushing for 76 yards and a touchdown on 15 carries, and adding two catches for nine yards.
11/8/2005
Charlie Batch, pit
The Steelers will be without Ben Roethlisberger's services for at least one more week, as the quarterback recovers from minor knee surgery. As a result, Batch will get the nod in Sunday's matchup with the Cleveland Browns, his second consecutive start. In two games this season, the veteran signal caller is 9 of 16 for 65 yards, one interception and no touchdowns.
Ben Roethlisberger, pit
Roethlisberger will be absent from the Steelers' starting lineup for the second consecutive week, as he continues to recover from arthroscopic surgery to remove a piece of torn cartilage from his ailing right knee. The quarterback, who went under the knife last Thursday, will be replaced under center by veteran Charlie Batch. The team is optimistic that Roethlisberger will be ready to return in Week 11.
11/7/2005
Duce Staley, pit
As anticipated, Staley made his 2005 debut in Sunday's matchup with the Green Bay Packers, but actually saw more playing time than planned. The veteran running back was slated to replace the injured Jerome Bettis as Willie Parker's primary backup, but after Parker went down with a sprained ankle early in the second half, Staley became the primary ball carrier. He finished the game with 76 yards and a touchdown on 15 rushes, along with two catches for nine yards.
Willie Parker, pit
Limited by a sprained left ankle -- an injury suffered early in the second half -- Parker had his worst totals of the 2005 campaign in Sunday's win over the Green Bay Packers. The Steelers' running back finished with only 13 yards on five carries and one catch for 10 yards. With Jerome Bettis inactive, Duce Staley handled the majority of the carries for Pittsburgh in Parker's absence.
11/5/2005
Jerome Bettis, pit
It looks increasingly unlikely that Bettis will play Sunday for Pittsburgh against Green Bay, after not participating in Friday's practice.
11/4/2005
Willie Parker, pit
As a precautionary measure, Parker was held out of practice on Wednesday, allowing him to rest his sore toe. The running back was back in action on Thursday and reported no major problems. He will be in the starting lineup when Pittsburgh takes the field against the Green Bay Packers this weekend.
11/3/2005
Jerome Bettis, pit
According to Steelers head coach Bill Cowher, Bettis continues to be bothered by a sore quadriceps muscle, and it appears he will not be available for Sunday's battle with the Green Bay Packers. After not practicing with the team on Wednesday, the veteran running back was downgraded from questionable to doubtful on the injury report.
Duce Staley, pit
Jerome Bettis is not expected to be available for Sunday's meeting with the Green Bay Packers because of a quadriceps injury, so Staley more than likely will make his 2005 regular-season debut. The running back was slow to recover from offseason knee surgery, and combined with the solid play of Willie Parker, tumbled down the Steelers' depth chart. Staley has since recovered from the procedure, but because Verron Haynes was needed on special teams, he's been inactive.
Charlie Batch, pit
Batch will be under center when the Steelers take the field against the Green Bay Packers on Sunday, filling in for regular starter Ben Roethlisberger, who will miss the next 1-2 weeks after undergoing arthroscopic knee surgery on Thursday. The veteran signal caller has not appeared in a regular-season NFL game since the 2003 campaign, and he attempted only four passes in four contests that year. His most recent extensive playing time came with the Lions in 2001.
Ben Roethlisberger, pit
Roethlisberger underwent arthroscopic surgery early Thursday to remove a piece of torn cartilage from his ailing right knee. The Steelers' quarterback originally injured the knee in a game against the San Diego Chargers on October 10, then aggravated the problem when his shoe caught in the turf this past weekend. According to head coach Bill Cowher, Roethlisberger definitely will miss Sunday's meeting with Green Bay, but the team is optimistic he will return next week.
11/1/2005
Ben Roethlisberger, pit
An MRI on Roethlisberger's ailing left knee has revealed a strained posterior capsule, but no ligament or structural damage was found. According to Steelers head coach Bill Cowher, the quarterback will rest and receive treatment over the next couple of days before being re-evaluated later this week to determine his status and availability. He was able to remain in the lineup despite aggravating the injury in Monday night's win over the Baltimore Ravens.
Heath Miller, pit
The Pittsburgh Steelers continue to keep Miller involved in their offensive attack, especially in the red zone. The rookie tight end, who was the 30th overall pick in this year's draft, hauled in three more passes for 18 yards and two touchdowns in Monday night's win over the Baltimore Ravens. He has at least one TD catch in five of seven games this season, including four straight.
10/27/2005

10/26/2005
Clark Haggans, pit
Haggans has recovered from surgery to repair a tear in his groin, and barring any last minute setbacks, he will be available for Monday night's matchup with the Baltimore Ravens, according to Steelers head coach Bill Cowher. The linebacker, who has been sidelined since Week 3, will be listed as probable on this week's injury report.
10/25/2005

Ben Roethlisberger, pit
Roethlisberger will return to the starting lineup for this week's showdown with the Cincinnati Bengals.
10/17/2005
Hines Ward, pit
Ward was unable to practice with the Steelers last week, and after testing his hamstring prior to Sunday's meeting with the Jacksonville Jaguars, he decided to sit out the game. The receiver was optimistic going into the weekend, but thought it would be better to give his leg another week to heal up. Cedrick Wilson got the starting nod in his absence.
Ben Roethlisberger, pit
Roethlisberger made it through pregame warmups without any problems and was ready to play in Sunday's meeting with the Jacksonville Jaguars, but head coach Bill Cowher decided to hold him out and let his hyperextended and bruised knee heal another week. The second-year quarterback, who was replaced in the lineup by Tommy Maddox, plans to reclaim his starting role when the team takes the field against the Cincinnati Bengals this Sunday, barring any setbacks.
10/16/2005
Tommy Maddox, pit
Maddox is the starting quarterback for Pittsburgh against Jacksonville on Sunday, according to reports from ESPN and FOX. Charlie Batch will be the Steelers' backup, while Roethlisberger will be active as the third-string option in case of an emergency.
Duce Staley, pit
Staley reportedly is inactive again for Pittsburgh's showdown against Jacksonville on Sunday. The Steelers' backfield is full, and currently there's no room for Staley, who is waiting for his first game action after rehabbing from knee surgery early in the season.
Ben Roethlisberger, pit
Tommy Maddox will start for Pittsburgh against Jacksonville on Sunday, though Roethlisberger will be active. Charlie Batch will be the Steelers' backup option, and Roethlisberger is active in case of an emergency.
10/15/2005
Hines Ward, pit
Ward missed his third straight day of practice Friday because of a hamstring problem, lessening his chances of being able to play Sunday when the Steelers take on the Jacksonville Jaguars. Ward, who has played in 116 straight games, wants to play and calls his status a game-time decision.
Ben Roethlisberger, pit
Roethlisberger remains doubtful for Sunday's game against the Jacksonville Jaguars with a hyperextended left knee. The quarterback returned to practice Friday, but missed part of the workout. If he cannot go, Tommy Maddox will likely make his first start since the 2004 regular-season finale. Maddox had been expected to be sidelined several weeks with a calf injury suffered in practice, but has made a faster-than-expected recovery.
10/14/2005
Tommy Maddox, pit
Maddox has been practicing with the Steelers the last two days and has not reported any problems with the calf muscle he strained during a workout late last week. As a result, the veteran quarterback has been upgraded from questionable to probable on the team's injury report, and he should be available for Sunday's matchup with the Jacksonville Jaguars. The Steelers might even give him the starting nod.
Ben Roethlisberger, pit
Roethlisberger was still on crutches Wednesday, but after receiving some treatment on his hyperextended and bruised left knee, he was able to make some throws and do some very light jogging while the Steelers practiced on Thursday. Tommy Maddox, pit
As anticipated, Maddox was able to practice with the Pittsburgh Steelers on Wednesday, testing out his sore calf muscle. The quarterback, who injured his leg during a workout late last week, reported no major problems and should be available for Sunday's meeting with the Jacksonville Jaguars, at least in a backup role. He has yet to appear in a game this season. The Steelers have listed Maddox as questionable on the injury report.
Charlie Batch, pit
With Ben Roethlisberger doubtful with a hyperextended and bruised left knee, Batch took the majority of the snaps with the Steelers' first-team offense at practice on Wednesday and likely will get the starting nod against the Jacksonville Jaguars on Sunday. Regular No. 2 quarterback Tommy Maddox should be available this weekend as well, but he's not quite 100 percent, due to a calf injury, prompting the team to turn to the veteran Batch.
Hines Ward, pit
As has been the case the last couple of weeks, Ward will be limited in practice, due to tenderness in his hamstring. Despite the injury, the Steelers' veteran receiver has yet to miss any game action and fully expects to be in the lineup against the Jacksonville Jaguars on Sunday. Officially, he has been listed as questionable.
Ben Roethlisberger, pit
Although he has yet to be ruled out officially, it is looking more and more likely that Roethlisberger will miss Sunday's meeting with the Jacksonville Jaguars, especially since the Steelers are working on a short week. The quarterback was forced to leave Monday night's win over the San Diego Chargers after hyperextending and bruising his left knee late in the game. The Steelers have listed him as doubtful on this week's injury report.
10/11/2005
Tommy Maddox, pit
According to Steelers head coach Bill Cowher, futher tests on Maddox' strained calf muscle have revealed that the injury is not as severe as initially thought, and the veteran quarterback could be ready for Sunday's matchup with the Jacksonville Jaguars. Jerome Bettis, pit
Bettis made his first appearance in a game this season in the Steelers' 24-22 win over San Diego, after missing the previous three games with a strained calf muscle. Providing a complement to speed back Willie Parker, Bettis powered his way to 54 yards on 17 rushes and one touchdown. He added a reception for 16 yards.
Duce Staley, pit

Ben Roethlisberger, pit
Tests on Roethlisberger's injured left leg have revealed a hyperextended left knee and a bone bruise, according to Steelers head coach Bill Cowher. He will be re-evaluated later this week to get an update on his status.

Ward has taken part in portions of the Steelers' practices over the past few days, but as a precautionary measure, his action has been limited. He plans to be in the lineup for Monday night's meeting with the San Diego Chargers.
10/4/2005
Jerome Bettis, pit
Bettis plans to practice without limitations this week, and he continues to work his way back from a strained calf muscle. He's been sidelined since suffering the injury in a preseason game against the Redskins in late August.
Duce Staley, pit
Staley made his regular-season debut in Week 3, but did not record a touch in the game. Willie Parker will remain in the starting lineup, according to head coach Bill Cowher.

Clark Haggans, pit
Haggans had his ailing groin evaluated by a specialist in Philadelphia, and it was determined that surgery was necessary to correct the problem. As a result, the Steelers' linebacker went under the knife on Wednesday, and according to head coach Bill Cowher, he will need at least five weeks to recover from the procedure. The team will look to James Harrison to fill the void in the lineup until Haggans is able to return.

Ben Roethlisberger, pit
The bruised knee that limited Roethlisberger in practice last week did not appear to be a problem in Sunday's 27-7 victory over the Houston Texans, as he led the team to scores on its first four drives. The Steelers' quarterback finished the game 14 of 21 for 254 yards, two touchdowns and no interceptions.
Willie Parker, pit

He had a career-high 161 rushing yards in last week's season opener.
9/18/2005

Ben Roethlisberger, pit
Roethlisberger tested his tender left knee early on Sunday, and he will start against the Houston Texans. The quarterback isn't fully healthy, and Steelers head coach Bill Cowher won't hesitate to turn to Tommy Maddox if Roethlisberger isn't up to the task.
Willie Parker, pit
With both Duce Staley and Jerome Bettis out on Sunday, Parker is Pittsburgh's primary running back again in Week 2. Last week against Tennessee, he ran for 161 yards and a touchdown, and he also caught a 48-yard pass.

He is expected to be a game-time decision for Sunday's meeting with the Houston Texans.

Ben Roethlisberger, pit
Roethlisberger did not practice with the Steelers on Wednesday, and he saw limited reps on Thursday, prompting the team to downgrade him from probable to questionable on this week's injury report. 9/14/2005
Rodney Bailey, pit
Bailey has signed with the Seattle Seahawks, taking the roster spot of receiver Jerheme Urban, who was released on Tuesday. After being selected in the sixth round of the 2001 NFL Draft, the defensive end spent his first three NFL seasons with the Pittsburgh Steelers, notching 45 tackles and 9.5 sacks in 48 games. He joined the New England Patriots last year, but missed the entire 2004 campaign after undergoing surgery to repair a torn Achilles tendon.
Nate Washington, pit
Washington has been waived by the Pittsburgh Steelers. If the receiver is not claimed by another team, the club plans to add him to their practice squad later this week. Veteran quarterback Charlie Batch was re-signed to fill the void on the 53-man roster.
9/13/2005
Jerome Bettis, pit
According to Steelers head coach Bill Cowher, Bettis' strained right calf continues to get better, but the veteran running back will be listed as doubtful for Sunday's meeting with the Houston Texans. Charlie Batch, pit
Batch was released by the Pittsburgh Steelers temporarily over the weekend, but he has since re-signed with the club. The veteran quarterback will continue to serve as the team's No. 3 signal caller behind starter Ben Roethlisberger and top backup Tommy Maddox.
9/12/2005
Ben Roethlisberger, pit
The Steelers' first-team offense failed to score a touchdown in the preseason, but they got back on track in Sunday's 2005 opener, led by Roethlisberger. The second-year quarterback, who improved to 14-0 as a starter in the regular season, finished with a perfect 158.3 passer rating, going 9 of 11 for 218 yards, two touchdowns and no interceptions.

The second-year back took full advantage of the opportunity -- his first career start -- rushing for 161 yards and a touchdown on 22 carries. He also posted a 48-yard reception.
Heath Miller, pit
Miller notched the first reception of his NFL career in Sunday's victory over the Tennessee Titans. Although the catch totaled just three yards, the rookie tight end was in the end zone to record his first pro touchdown. It was his only catch on the day. Expect him to become more involved in the Steelers' passing game as the season goes on, especially in the red zone.
9/11/2005
Duce Staley, pit
As anticipated, Staley has been declared inactive for Sunday's regular-season opener against the Tennessee Titans. With Jerome Bettis sidelined as well, Willie Parker will make his first career start.
9/9/2005
Duce Staley, pit
Staley probably won't play in Sunday's season opener against the Tennessee Titans, as he continues to recover from surgery repair a lateral tear in the meniscus of his right knee. Still unable to practice at full speed, the running back has been downgraded from questionable to doubtful on this week's injury report. With Staley unlikely to go and Jerome Bettis out with an injured calf, Willie Parker will get the start against Tennessee .
Joey Porter, pit
Porter has been practicing without incident this week, and the Steelers expect him to be in the starting lineup for Sunday's season-opener against the Tennessee Titans. The linebacker missed more than a month after undergoing arthroscopic surgery in early August to remove some loose cartilage from his knee.
9/6/2005
Jerome Bettis, pit
Bettis' strained right calf has shown some improvement over the last week, but not enough for the Steelers to put him on the field in Sunday's regular-season opener against the Tennessee Titans. The veteran running back, who is expected to be listed as out on this week's injury report, did some limited individual work on Monday, but failed to take part in any team drills.
Duce Staley, pit
Staley practiced on Monday for the first time since having arthroscopic knee surgery on August 9. He is hopeful that he will be able to play Sunday, but will be day-to-day for the remainder of this week.
Joey Porter, pit
Porter hopes to be ready for Sunday's regular-season opener against the Tennessee Titans after returning to practice with the Steelers on Monday for the first time in nearly a month. Lee Mays was cut to make room on the roster.
Lee Mays, pit

9/5/2005
Hines Ward, pit
Hines and the Pittsburgh Steelers worked out a four-year deal a week before the NFL season is to begin. The two sides came to terms after a long, sometimes contentious process that included a two-week holdout by the wide receiver at the start of training camp.
Quincy Morgan, pit
The Dallas Cowboys released Morgan on Monday. Picking up Peerless Price sealed Morgan's fate with the Cowboys. Morgan already had fallen behind Patrick Crayton to No. 3 on the depth chart at wide receiver. In 15 games last season, he caught 31 passes for 404 yards and three touchdowns for Cleveland and Dallas.
9/1/2005
Eugene Baker, pit

8/31/2005
Cedrick Wilson, pit
Despite having a solid camp, Wilson reportedly will begin the 2005 campaign as the Pittsburgh Steelers' No. 3 wideout. The receiver, who signed a four-year, $8 million contract earlier this year, was beaten out for a starting job by Antwaan Randle El.
8/29/2005
Jerome Bettis, pit
An MRI on Bettis' strained right calf was inconclusive, but the Steelers already have ruled him out for at least the next two weeks. The veteran running back, who suffered the injury in Friday's preseason meeting with the Washington Redskins, will undergo more tests later this week when the swelling in his leg subsides. With Duce Staley also sidelined with a knee injury, the team will look to Willie Parker to begin the regular season as the top tailback.

Willie Parker, pit
The Pittsburgh Steelers will turn to Parker to begin the 2005 campaign as their starting tailback. Duce Staley, projected to be No. 1 on the depth chart, currently is sidelined after undergoing knee surgery earlier this month and might not be back until October. In addition, veteran Jerome Bettis will miss at least a couple of weeks after suffering a calf injury in the team's last exhibition contest, forcing the Steelers to call on Parker.
Rod Rutherford, pit
Rutherford has been released by the Carolina Panthers. He was battling for the No. 3 quarterback job with the team this season, but lost out to rookie Stefan LeFors.
8/27/2005
Jerome Bettis, pit
A right calf injury forced Jerome Bettis to leave Friday's preseason game against the Redskins in the first quarter. An MRI exam is scheduled for Saturday.
8/24/2005
Duce Staley, pit
Staley continues to be on schedule in his recovery from surgery repair a lateral tear in the meniscus of his right knee, but the Steelers are not going to rush him back into the lineup. According to head coach Bill Cowher, because of depth at the position, the team can be patient with the running back and hold him out until he is back to 100 percent. Until that time, Jerome Bettis will get most of the reps with the Steelers' first-team offense.
8/22/2005
Casey Hampton, pit
Hampton has signed an extention that will keep him under contract with the Pittsburgh Steelers through the 2009 campaign. The defensive lineman appeared in just six games last season before missing the rest of the year with a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his knee. He has since recovered and is expected to be ready for the start of the 2005 regular season.
8/16/2005
Hines Ward, pit
Ward ended his two-week holdout and reported to camp with the Pittsburgh Steelers on Monday. The receiver, who has one year left on his current contract, will begin working out with the team on Wednesday, but plans to continue negotiating a possible long-term deal. Ward's 381 catches over the past four years combined is the NFL's third-best total during that span, and he's topped the 1,000-yard mark each of those seasons.

Porter suffered the injury during practice on Tuesday.
8/9/2005
Duce Staley, pit
During an arthroscopic procedure, doctors repaired a lateral tear in the meniscus of Staley's ailing right knee, and the Steelers expect the running back to be sidelined for about a month. However, head coach Bill Cowher indicated the club is optimistic that Staley will be ready by the start of the regular season. In 10 games last season, he picked up 830 yards and one touchdown on 192 carries.
8/8/2005
Duce Staley, pit
An MRI on Staley's ailing right knee has revealed some damage that will require him to undergo arthroscopic surgery. The Steelers will have a better idea of how much time the running back might miss after the procedure, but he's expected to be out at least a couple of weeks. The knee has limited him to one day of practice so far in training camp.
8/6/2005
Duce Staley, pit
Staley will undergo an MRI exam on his sore right knee on Sunday. The running back has sat out all but one day of training camp because of the injury. Staley needed fluid drained from the knee after just one day of practice, a condition that sometimes can indicate a problem that requires arthroscopic surgery. With the regular season more than a month away, Staley has enough time to have an operation and still be ready for the September 11 opener against Tennessee.
8/5/2005
Duce Staley, pit
According to Steelers head coach Bill Cowher, Staley should return to practice with the team on Saturday, barring any setbacks. The running back has been held out as a precautionary measure the last couple of days, due to some inflammation in his knee. He had some fluid removed from the joint on Wednesday, but the team does not seem concerned with the minor ailment.
8/1/2005
Hines Ward, pit
Ward did not report to Steelers camp on Sunday, officially becoming Pittsburgh's first key holdout in a dozen years. The All Pro wide receiver, whose total of 381 catches over the past four years combined is the NFL's third-best total during that span, has one left on his current contract and is seeking a long-term deal. The last prominent Pittsburgh player to fail to come to camp on time because of a contract dispute was running back Barry Foster in 1993.
