Kansas City Chiefs

8/10/2006

Jeff Smoker, kan

The Kansas City Chiefs agreed to terms of a two-year contract with former Michigan State quarterback Jeff Smoker Thursday. Smoker spent the past two seasons with the Philadelphia Eagles and the St. Louis Rams who chose him in the sixth round of the 2004 NFL draft. He was on the Rams active roster for all 16 games in '04, but has never appeared in a game.

8/7/2006

Shane Burton, kan

The Kansas City Chiefs signed Burton to a one-year contract on Monday. The free agent has spent nine season in the NFL, but sat out the last two with knee problems.

8/2/2006

Michael Bennett, kan

The Chiefs acquired running back Bennett from the New Orleans Saints on Wednesday.

7/28/2006

Willie Roaf, kan

Roaf says he's retiring, but the Chiefs are holding out hope the 11-time Pro Bowl tackle will decide to return for a 14th season. Carl Peterson, president and general manager of the Chiefs, said neither he nor coach Herm Edwards had spoken with Roaf in several weeks and they were "leaving the door open."

7/23/2006

Ty Law, kan

Law agreed to a five-year deal with the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday.

7/22/2006

Bernard Pollard, kan

Pollard, a second-round pick, signed with the Kansas City Chiefs on Friday. The 6-foot-1, 224-pound safety had 254 tackles, a sack, four interceptions and set a school record with five blocked kicks while playing at Purdue.

6/16/2006

John Welbourn, kan

Welbourn announced his retirement Thursday from the Kansas City Chiefs. The offensive lineman and 1999 NFL fourth round draft pick had been acquired from the Philadelphia Eagles in 2004. He was hampered by a knee injury during his first season with Kansas City and also served a four-game suspension to start the 2005 season for violating the NFL's performance enhancing drugs policy.

5/18/2006

Jerome Woods, kan

The Kansas City Chiefs released Woods on Thursday. The 10-year veteran safety and 2004 Pro Bowl selection played little last season and his future with the Chiefs seemed shaky after two safeties were taken in last month's draft. His 720 career tackles rank seventh in team history.

4/18/2006

Chris Johnson, kan

Johnson, a free-agent cornerback, signed with Kansas City on Tuesday. He made 23 tackles in 14 games for St. Louis last season.

4/4/2006

Lenny Walls, kan

Walls agreed to a one-year deal with the Chiefs on Tuesday.

3/18/2006

Quentin Griffin, kan

The Kansas City Chiefs signed Griffin to a one-year contract.

3/17/2006

Michael Bennett, kan

The New Orleans Saints continued an active offseason, acquiring free-agent running back Bennett to a two-year contract worth $3 million. The Vikings' former first-round pick will back up Deuce McAllister.

2/22/2006

Ty Law, kan

Law was released by the New York Jets Wednesday. The former New England Patriots' cornerback is reportedly seeking $10 million guaranteed.

2/1/2006

Brian Waters, kan

Waters agreed to a six-year contract extension with Kansas City on Wednesday. Terms were not disclosed. The seventh-year guard has made the Pro Bowl the last two seasons.

1/27/2006

Trent Green, kan

Green was named to the AFC's Pro Bowl roster Friday, replacing injured New England quarterback Tom Brady. The Chiefs' signal-caller will make his second Pro Bowl appearance. He was chosen for the first time following the 2003 season.

1/20/2006

Larry Johnson, kan

Johnson indicated that new head coach Herman Edwards has informed him that he will be the Kansas City Chiefs' starting running back going into training camp this summer. The third-year tailback began the 2005 campaign as the primary backup, but took over the feature-back role when Priest Holmes went down midway through the season. He finished with 1,750 yards and 20 touchdowns on 336 carries, along with 33 catches for 343 yards and a score.

12/30/2005

Kris Wilson, kan

Nursing a thigh problem, Wilson has been placed on injured reserve by the Kansas City Chiefs. The second-year tight end, who will miss the rest of the season, sat out the majority of the 2004 campaign with a broken leg. Reciever Craphonso Thorpe was signed to fill the void on the roster.

Craphonso Thorpe, kan

The Kansas City Chiefs have promoted Thorpe from their practice squad, signing him to a three-year contract. The rookie receiver, who was a fourth-round pick in this year's draft out of Florida State, takes the roster spot of injured tight end Kris Wilson.

12/24/2005

Eddie Kennison, kan

Kennison was able to practice again on Friday and should be available when the Chiefs face the San Diego Chargers on Saturday. He is still listed as questionable with a strain of the medial collateral ligament in his knee.

12/22/2005

Eddie Kennison, kan

Kennison wasn't quite ready to return to practice with the Chiefs on Wednesday, but he was back on the field Thursday and took part in the majority of the workout. The veteran receiver continues to be listed as questionable with a minor strain of the medial collateral ligament in his knee, but barring any setbacks, he should be in the lineup for Saturday's battle with the San Diego Chargers.

12/21/2005

Eddie Kennison, kan

Tests have revealed that Kennison has a minor strain of the medial collateral ligament in his knee. The veteran receiver was unable to practice with the Kansas City Chiefs on Tuesday, but he should be back on the field within the next couple of days and be ready for Saturday's matchup with the San Diego Chargers, according to head coach Dick Vermeil.

12/20/2005

Eddie Kennison, kan

Kennison might be limited in practice this week after straining a ligament in his knee late in last weekend's loss to the New York Giants. However, according to head coach Dick Vermeil, the Chiefs are optimistic that the veteran receiver will be ready for Saturday's matchup with the San Diego Chargers.

12/18/2005

Larry Johnson, kan

Johnson ran 31 times for 167 yards and two touchdowns in Saturday's loss at the New York Giants. The Chiefs' running back extended his club-record streak of games with 100 rushing yards or more to seven. Johnson now has seven rushing TDs in the last three weeks.

12/13/2005

Michael Bennett, kan

With Mewelde Moore nursing minor injuries the past couple of weeks, Bennett has filled the void in the Vikings' backfield, and he'll remain atop the depth chart going forward, according to head coach Mike Tice. While Bennett should handle the majority of the touches, rookie Ciatrick Fason and Moore are expected to figure into the mix as well.

12/12/2005

Trent Green, kan

Green topped the 300-yard mark for the third time this season and second time in his last three games, going 20 of 32 for 340 yards, one touchdown and no interceptions in Sunday's disappointing loss to the Dallas Cowboys. After throwing three picks in a Week 10 loss to the Bills, the Chiefs' quarterback has found the end zone seven times and tossed just three INTs in his last four contests.

Michael Bennett, kan

Vikings head coach Mike Tice decided to limit Mewelde Moore's duties in Sunday's win over the St. Louis Rams, due to a lingering quadriceps injury. As a result, Bennett handled the bulk of the team's rushing load for the second consecutive week, picking up 70 yards and a touchdown on 18 carries. He also hauled in four passes for six yards, but lost a fumble.

Larry Johnson, kan

Johnson found the end zone a career-high three times in Sunday's loss to the Dallas Cowboys, rushing for 143 yards and a trio of touchdowns on 26 carries. The running back has been nearly unstoppable since taking over as the feature runner in the Chiefs' offensive attack, replacing Priest Holmes, who has been sidelined since Week 8. In his last six games, Johnson is averaging 142 yards per contest with 10 TDs over that span.

12/8/2005

Michael Bennett, kan

Due to a sprained ankle, an injury suffered when he slipped on some ice at his home a few days ago, Bennett has been listed as probable on the Vikings' injury report this week. However, the ailment is considered minor, and the running back was able to take part in the team's workout on Wednesday. He will be available for Sunday's meeting with the St. Louis Rams.

12/5/2005

Eddie Kennison, kan

Kennison had four receptions for 108 yards in Sunday's 31-27 victory over the Denver Broncos. The Chiefs' wide receiver broke a 54-yard reception, his longest of the season.

Michael Bennett, kan

Following an ankle injury to starter Mewelde Moore early in the first quarter, Bennett filled the void in the Vikings' backfield in Sunday's win over the Detroit Lions. The veteran running back picked up 79 yards and scored a touchdown on 22 carries, while adding three catches for 10 yards and a score. He has double-digit touches in just three games this season.

Larry Johnson, kan

Johnson had his fifth straight 100-yard rushing game in Sunday's victory over Denver, tying a Chiefs franchise record set by Priest Holmes in 2002. The running back rushed 30 times for 140 yards and two touchdowns on the afternoon.

11/29/2005

Lenny Walls, kan

The Oakland Raiders have claimed Wells off waivers from the Denver Broncos, filling the roster spot of safety Reggie Tongue, who is out for the season with a knee injury. The cornerback began the 2005 campaign in the Broncos' starting lineup, but was placed on injured reserve earlier this month after straining his groin. He has since recovered from the ailment.

11/28/2005

Greg Wesley, kan

Wesley tied a career high with three interceptions, picking off a trio of Tom Brady passes in Sunday's victory over the New England Patriots. The Chiefs' safety also accomplished the feat in a win over the Miami Dolphins in 2002. With five games remaining on the schedule, he's already tied his personal best with six interceptions for the season.

Larry Johnson, kan

Despite losing a fumble, Johnson recorded his fourth consecutive 100-yard outing, rushing for 119 yards and a touchdown on 31 carries in Sunday's victory over the New England Patriots. The running back also matched a season-high with five receptions for 53 yards.

Lawrence Tynes, kan

Tynes nailed four field goals -- all coming during the second quarter -- in Sunday's win over the New England Patriots, tying an all-time NFL record for field goals made in one quarter. The Chiefs' kicker connected from 20, 25, 33 and 47 yards.

11/22/2005

Jeff Smoker, kan

The Philadelphia Eagles have promoted Smoker from their practice squad, filling the roster spot of kicker Jose Cortez, who was released on Tuesday. With regular starter Donovan McNabb out for the season, the quarterback will be listed third on the team's depth chart behind Mike McMahon and Koy Detmer.

11/21/2005

Tony Gonzalez, kan

Gonzalez finished just shy of his first 100-yard game of the 2005 campaign, hauling in nine passes for 98 yards in Sunday's win over the Houston Texans. The Chiefs' veteran now has 54 catches on the year, becoming the first tight end in NFL history to notch 50 or more receptions in eight consecutive seasons.

Larry Johnson, kan

On 36 carries in Sunday's win over the Houston Texans, Johnson set a Chiefs franchise record with 211 yards, breaking the previous record of 200, set by Barry Word in 1990. The running back, who has taken over as the team's starter in place of the injured Priest Holmes, scored two touchdowns in the game, giving him eight scores on the season.

11/18/2005

Priest Holmes, kan

Holmes is scheduled to undergo a couple more tests on his neck and spine in the near future. Based on the results, the veteran running back will decided whether to return to the Kansas City Chiefs next season or consider retiring from the NFL. He was placed on injured reserve shortly after suffering a concussion and head and neck trauma in a game against the San Diego Chargers on October 30, officially ending his 2005 campaign.

11/17/2005

Samie Parker, kan

Barring any last minute setbacks, Parker will return to the Chiefs' starting lineup for Sunday's matchup with the Houston Texans, according to head coach Dick Vermeil. The receiver, who has been sidelined for more than a month with a sprained knee, reported no problems after practicing at full speed with the team on Wednesday. Parker will be the third option in the Chiefs' passing attack behind Eddie Kennison and Tony Gonzalez.

11/14/2005

Larry Johnson, kan

In his first start since taking over as the Chiefs' feature back, Johnson rushed for 132 yards on 27 carries and hauled in five passes for 46 yards in Sunday's 14-3 loss to the Buffalo Bills. The running back, who replaces the injured Priest Holmes, has topped the century mark three times this season, including the last two weeks.

11/13/2005

Willie Roaf, kan

Roaf will be out of Kansas City's lineup again this week, declared inactive for today's game against the Buffalo Bills.

Samie Parker, kan

Despite optimistic reports earlier this week, Parker will remain inactive today when the Chiefs face the Buffalo Bills.

11/11/2005

Samie Parker, kan

Sidelined since Week 6 with a sprained left knee, Parker made it through a full practice with the Chiefs on Thursday, and barring any setbacks, he should be in the lineup for Sunday's meeting with the Buffalo Bills. Officially, the receiver remains listed as questionable on the team's injury report.

11/9/2005

Priest Holmes, kan

Holmes will miss the rest of the 2005 campaign after being placed on injured reserve by the Kansas City Chiefs on Wednesday. The veteran running back continues to recover after taking a helmet-to-helmet hit in the Chiefs' loss to the San Diego Chargers on October 30. He's already sought several opinions on the neck and shoulder injuries he sustained as a result of the crushing blow. Larry Johnson will take over as the team's primary tailback going forward.

Larry Johnson, kan

Priest Holmes was placed on injured reserve on Wednesday, officially ending his 2005 campaign. In his absence, Johnson will take over as the feature back in the Kansas City Chiefs' offensive attack. The former first-round pick (2003) has been solid while splitting duties with Holmes this season, picking up 506 yards with six touchdowns on 97 carries in eight games.

11/8/2005

Priest Holmes, kan

Holmes traveled to Miami on Tuesday to seek a third opinion on the head injury he suffered in a loss to the San Diego Chargers on October 30. The Chiefs' running back, who originally was diagnosed with a mild concussion, did not practice with the team last week and missed Sunday's victory over the Oakland Raiders. According to head coach Dick Vermeil, there isn't an exact timetable for Holmes' return at this point, but the Chiefs are optimistic he could play this week.

11/7/2005

Michael Bennett, kan

With starter Mewelde Moore limited by a sprained right wrist, Bennett saw some extra playing time in Sunday's matchup with the Detroit Lions. The running back took advantage of the opportunity, picking up 106 yards on 18 carries. Going into the contest, he had rushed for only 71 yards in his previous seven games combined.

Larry Johnson, kan

With Priest Holmes out with a concussion, Johnson got the starting nod in Sunday's meeting with the Oakland Raiders. The running back had no problem filling the void in the Chiefs' offensive attack, rushing for 107 yards and two touchdowns on 22 carries. He also hauled in three passes for 48 yards.

11/6/2005

Priest Holmes, kan

Recovering from the concussion he suffered last weekend, Holmes has been ruled out of Sunday's matchup with the Oakland Raiders. The veteran running back will be replaced in the Chiefs' starting lineup by Larry Johnson.

Larry Johnson, kan

As anticipated, Johnson will get the starting nod in Sunday's meeting with the Oakland Raiders, filling the shoes of veteran Priest Holmes, who will be inactive because of the concussion he suffered last weekend. In seven games this season, Johnson has 399 yards and four touchdowns on 75 carries.

11/4/2005

Trent Green, kan

After returning to practice with the Chiefs on Friday, Green will be in the starting lineup for Sunday's matchup with the Oakland Raiders, head coach Dick Vermeil confirmed. The quarterback has been in St. Louis this week after the death of his father, causing him to miss the team's first two practices.

Willie Roaf, kan

Roaf was expected to be in the Chiefs' starting lineup against the Oakland Raiders on Sunday, but after aggravating his troublesome hamstring injury in practice this week, he is considered very questionable for the contest, according to head coach Dick Vermeil. The All-Pro offensive lineman has been added to the injury report and will be a game-time decision.

Priest Holmes, kan

Holmes continues to be listed as questionable on the Chiefs' injury report, but after not practicing at all this week, it is looking highly unlikely that he will be able to take the field against the Oakland Raiders on Sunday. The veteran running back has been recovering from the concussion he suffered during last weekend's action.

Larry Johnson, kan

At this point, it appears that Priest Holmes will not be available for Sunday's meeting with the Oakland Raiders, as he continues to recover from the concussion he suffered last weekend. As a result, Johnson has been taking all of the reps with the Chiefs' first-team offense in practice this week, and he is slated to be in the starting lineup on Sunday.

11/2/2005

Priest Holmes, kan

Holmes continues to recover after suffering a concussion when he took a shot from rookie linebacker Shawne Merriman in the third quarter of Sunday's loss to the San Diego Chargers. As a result, the veteran running back did not practice with the Chiefs on Wednesday, and he has been listed as questionable on this week's injury report. Backup Larry Johnson took the majority of the reps with the first-team offense.

Patrick Surtain, kan

Surtain is expected to be limited in practice this week and his status for Sunday's matchup with the Oakland Raiders is currently up in the air, as he recovers from a knee injury suffered in last weekend's loss to the San Diego Chargers. Precautionary tests on the knee were negative, and the Chiefs have listed the cornerback as day-to-day.

Samie Parker, kan

Parker continues to be hobbled by the sprained left knee that has kept him sidelined since Week 6, and the Kansas City Chiefs expect to be without his services again in Sunday's matchup with the Oakland Raiders, according to head coach Dick Vermeil. Officially, the receiver is listed as questionable.

11/1/2005

Lenny Walls, kan

Nursing a right groin strain, Walls has been placed on injured reserve by the Denver Broncos, bringing his 2005 campaign to an end. The cornerback began the season in the Broncos' starting lineup, but lost the job to Darrent Williams last month before eventually going down with the groin ailment. He will be replaced on the roster by safety Hamza Abdullah.

10/31/2005

Trent Green, kan

Despite the death of his father just three days earlier, Green was under center when the Chiefs took the field against the San Diego Chargers on Sunday. The veteran quarterback posted a season-high 111.3 passer rating, finishing the game 31 of 43 for 347 yards, two touchdowns and no interceptions. He was sacked four times and lost a fumble.

Eddie Kennison, kan

After posting only two catches in his previous two games combined, Kennison got back on track in Sunday's loss to the San Diego Chargers, hauling in seven passes for 115 yards and a touchdown. The Chiefs' veteran receiver has topped the century mark in three contests on the year.

Tony Gonzalez, kan

Gonzalez had his best game of the 2005 campaign in Sunday's loss to the San Diego Chargers, finishing with seven catches for 97 yards and a touchdown. Surprisingly, the score was the first of the season for the Chiefs' veteran tight end.

Priest Holmes, kan

Holmes took a shot from rookie linebacker Shawne Merriman in the third quarter of Sunday's loss to the San Diego Chargers and was forced to leave the game with a concussion. According to head coach Dick Vermeil, the ailment is considered minor, and the veteran running back should be ready for the Chiefs' next contest. Prior to his departure, Holmes had just 38 yards on 14 carries. He has six rushing TDs on the season, but is averaging just 64.4 yards per game.

10/28/2005

Samie Parker, kan

Parker hasn't been able to return to practice with the Kansas City Chiefs since spraining his left knee a couple weeks ago, so the team has ruled him out of Sunday's matchup with the San Diego Chargers. The receiver, who missed last weekend's win over the Miami Dolphins as well, will be replaced in the starting lineup by Dante Hall, with Marc Boerigter and Chris Horn seeing increased roles as well.

10/27/2005

Samie Parker, kan

Officially, Parker has been listed as questionable on the Chiefs' injury report this week, but he was unable to practice with the team on Wednesday, and it appears likely that he will miss his second consecutive game. The receiver has been sidelined for the past couple of weeks by a sprained left knee.

10/22/2005

Jeff Smoker, kan

Smoker, who was re-signed to the practice squad last week after being cut in training camp, has been added to the Rams' active roster for Sunday's game against the New Orleans Saints.

10/21/2005

Samie Parker, kan

The Chiefs-Dolphins game has been moved to Friday night, due to Hurricane Wilma. With the short week, Parker has not had enough time to recover from the sprained left knee he suffered in last weekend's victory over the Washington Redskins. As a result, the receiver has been ruled out this week. Marc Boerigter will get the starting nod opposite Eddie Kennison on Friday.

10/20/2005

Larry Johnson, kan

Johnson will be limited in practice this week as a precautionary measure after bruising his left quadriceps muscle last weekend. However, the Chiefs expect to have the running back's services available for Friday night's matchup with the Miami Dolphins and have listed him as probable on the injury report.

10/18/2005

Samie Parker, kan

Parker was forced to leave last Sunday's win over the Washington Redskins after spraining his left knee. The injury will limit his practice time this week and could keep him out of the lineup for the Chiefs' weekend meeting with the Miami Dolphins. His status will be updated in the coming days.

10/17/2005

Eddie Kennison, kan

Kennison was shut down by the Washington Redskins' defense on Sunday, finishing the Chiefs' 28-21 victory with no catches. The veteran receiver was coming off back-to-back 100-yard outings, but saw just two passes come his way all day -- both of which were incomplete.

Priest Holmes, kan

Holmes was limited to just 18 yards on 14 carries in Sunday's win over the Washington Redskins, but he made up for it in the passing game, finishing with five catches for 100 yards. The Chiefs' running back scored twice in the game -- a six-yard run in the third quarter and a 60-yard catch in the fourth.

10/12/2005

Ron Edwards, kan

Edwards' 2005 season has officially come to an end, as he was placed on injured reserve by the Buffalo Bills on Wednesday. The defensive tackle, who underwent surgery to repair damage in his right shoulder last week, will be replaced on the roster by Jason Jefferson.

10/11/2005

Willie Roaf, kan

Roaf returned to practice today, and is expected to be in the starting lineup this Sunday when the Chiefs host the Washington Redskins.

10/7/2005

Ron Edwards, kan

According to Bills head coach Mike Mularkey, Edwards decided to undergo surgery to repair the damage in his ailing right shoulder. Although the defensive tackle has yet to be placed on injured reserve, it is likely that he will miss the rest of the 2005 campaign.

Kevin Sampson, kan

Sampson apparently suffered a seizure on Thursday and was passing in and out of consciousness. As a result, the Chiefs' offensive lineman was admitted to a hospital in New Jersey to undergo tests and evaluation. Head coach Dick Vermeil said specifics are limited at this point, but Sampson's status likely will be updated in the coming days. He made his first start with the Chiefs in last week's meeting with the Philadelphia Eagles.

10/6/2005

Ron Edwards, kan

Reportedly, Edwards might be forced to undergo surgery to repair the damage in his shoulder. The Bills' defensive tackle, who was injured in last weekend's loss to the New Orleans Saints, already has been ruled out of Sunday's meeting with the Miami Dolphins. He will undergo more tests this week to determine the next course of action.

10/5/2005

Tony Gonzalez, kan

Gonzalez finished last week's loss to the Philadelphia Eagles with just two catches for five yards, and following the game, voiced his frustration with his involvement in the Chiefs' offensive attack this season. Head coach Dick Vermeil agrees with the Pro Bowl tight end and has said the team plans to get him the ball more often going forward. For the year, Gonzalez has 16 receptions for 129 yards and has yet to find the end zone.

10/4/2005

Willie Roaf, kan

Roaf has nearly recovered from the hamstring injury that has sidelined him since the Chiefs' 2005 regular-season opener, and he is expected to resume practicing with the team this week. The Pro Bowl left tackle plans to be in the lineup when Kansas City resumes play against the Washington Redskins in Week 6.

10/3/2005

Eddie Kennison, kan

Kennison notched his second consecutive 100-yard game and scored his first touchdown of the 2005 campaign in Sunday's loss to the Philadelphia Eagles. The Chiefs' veteran receiver finished the game with seven catches for 109 yards and the score. He also added a 23-yard run.

Dante Hall, kan

Hall tied an all-time NFL record in Sunday's loss to the Philadelphia Eagles, notching the sixth kickoff return for a touchdown in his career. The Chiefs' receiver matched the mark with a 96-yard return in the second quarter.

Quentin Griffin, kan

Griffin was waived for the second time this season by the Broncos to make room for safety Curome Cox. Denver needed to bolster their secondary depth and Griffin was not in line to see any action this week. The running back has yet to see any action this season.

10/2/2005

Willie Roaf, kan

Roaf will once again be inactive for this Sunday's game against the Eagles. The All-Pro tackle will miss his third consecutive game due to a hamstring injury. Roaf will be replaced in the starting lineup by Jordan Black.

9/27/2005

Willie Roaf, kan

For the second consecutive week, Roaf was absent from the Kansas City Chiefs' starting lineup for Monday night's meeting with the Denver Broncos, due to a strained hamstring. The offensive lineman, who had started 49 consecutive games prior to suffering the injury in Week 1, again was replaced by Jordan Black.

Michael Bennett, kan

Because of his early season struggles, it appears Bennett has lost his job as the Minnesota Vikings' top tailback. The running back recorded just two carries in last week's victory over the New Orleans Saints, giving way to Mewelde Moore, who topped 100 yards on the day.

Larry Johnson, kan

Johnson had a rough night in Monday's loss to the Denver Broncos, picking up just 13 yards on eight carries -- a dismal 1.6-yard average. The Chiefs' backup running back, who was averaging 8.4 yards per carry going into the contest, also lost a fumble.

9/22/2005

Michael Bennett, kan

Bennett was benched by Vikings head coach Mike Tice after fumbling twice last week, but despite the temporary move, the running back is slated to return to the starting lineup for Sunday's matchup with the New Orleans Saints. Even though Bennett will get the nod, he'll continue to split carries with Mewelde Moore and Moe Williams.

9/21/2005

Jason Dunn, kan

The knee injury Dunn suffered in Sunday victory over the Oakland Raiders currently has him listed as questionable for Monday night's matchup with the Denver Broncos. He'll likely be limited in practice over the next couple of days before being re-evaluated to determine his availability.

Quentin Griffin, kan

Griffin has re-signed with the Denver Broncos, filling the roster spot of punter/kickoff specialist Paul Ernster. In a bit of a surprise, the running back, who rushed for 311 yards and two touchdowns on 85 carries and hauled in 10 passes for 68 yards and a TD in six games last year, was cut just prior to the start of the 2005 regular season.

Keyaron Fox, kan

According to Chiefs head coach Dick Vermeil, tests have revealed that Fox has a possible ligament tear in his right knee. The linebacker, who suffered the injury when he slipped during Sunday night's meeting with the Oakland Raiders, is seeking a second opinion this week to determine if surgery is necessary. He is not expected to be ready for the Chiefs' next game and might be sidelined for an extended period.

9/19/2005

Priest Holmes, kan

Holmes temporarily was knocked out of Sunday night's game against the Oakland Raiders, due to a bruised his right shoulder. After evaluation and some minor treatment, the running back was able to return to the Chiefs' lineup and finish the game. He had 75 yards and a touchdown on 19 carries, while also hauling in three passes for 15 yards.

Michael Bennett, kan

Bennett had problems protecting the football on Sunday and it may have cost him his starting spot for the Vikings. He was pulled for two series after fumbling in the first quarter and then fumbled again on his first carry back in the game. After the second fumble, he spent the rest of the game on the bench. Mewelde Moore took over at running back both times Bennett was removed. Bennett finished the game with 36 yards on three carries and one catch for a one yard loss.

9/17/2005

Chris Bober, kan

Bober will start at right tackle on Sunday night when the Chiefs face the Oakland Raiders. He replaces Jordan Black, who has switched to left tackle to replace the injured Willie Roaf. The Chiefs' usual starter at right tackle, Kevin Sampson, has been out with a turf toe injury. He will not start Sunday, but is expected to see some action.

9/16/2005

Willie Roaf, kan

Roaf's status has been downgraded from questionable to doubtful for Sunday's game against the Raiders. The Chiefs' tackle will not play on Sunday as he battles a hamstring injury that he incurred in last Sunday's win against the Jets.

Ryan Sims, kan

According to Chiefs head coach Dick Vermeil, Sims will be sidelined indefinitely, due to the foot injury he suffered in last weekend's season-opening victory over the New York Jets. Specifics of the ailment have not been released, but reportedly, the defensive tackle might be forced to sit out the rest of the season.

9/15/2005

Patrick Surtain, kan

Surtain made it through Wednesday's practice without any problems, and he is slated to be in the Chiefs' lineup for this weekend's meeting with the Oakland Raiders. The veteran cornerback is recovering after suffering a concussion when he was tackled hard from behind by the Jets' Brandon Moore after intercepting a Chad Pennington pass in last Sunday's season opener against New York.

Larry Johnson, kan

Following his brush with the law earlier this week, on Wednesday, Johnson said he is innocent and doesn't expect to miss any game action going forward as a result of the incident. The Chiefs' running back was arrested and charged with domestic abuse assault -- a misdemeanor -- after allegedly grabbing his girlfriend and dragging her to the door at a bar in Kansas City. He has a court date set for next week.

9/13/2005

Michael Bennett, kan

According to Vikings head coach Mike Tice, Bennett will get the starting nod in Sunday's meeting with the Cincinnati Bengals despite being limited to just six carries in the team's Week 1 loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The running back, who is recovering from a nagging neck injury, will be backed up by Moe Williams.

Ryan Sims, kan

Sims will travel to North Carolina to get a second opinion on the foot injury he suffered in Sunday's season-opening victory over the New York Jets. The defensive tackle is expected to miss at least this weekend's matchup with the Oakland Raiders, and there is a chance he could be sidelined for several weeks.

Larry Johnson, kan

Johnson was arrested and charged with domestic abuse assault -- a misdemeanor -- after allegedly grabbing his girlfriend and dragging her to the door at a bar in Kansas City late Monday. The Chiefs' running back posted bond and was later released, with a court date set for September 20.

9/12/2005

Willie Roaf, kan

According to head coach Dick Vermeil, Roaf likely will miss the Chiefs' Week 2 meeting with the Oakland Raiders after straining his hamstring in Sunday's season-opening victory over the New York Jets. With the starting left tackle sidelined, the team likely will shift Jordan Black to that side and look to Kevin Sampson and Chris Bober to fill the void on the right.

Priest Holmes, kan

Holmes picked up 85 yards and scored a touchdown on 22 carries in Sunday's victory over the New York Jets. The Chiefs' starting tailback split time with backup Larry Johnson, who finished the contest with 110 yards and two scores on just nine rushes.

Patrick Surtain, kan

Surtain was tackled hard from behind by the Jets' Brandon Moore after intercepting a Chad Pennington pass in Sunday's season opener against New York. The Chiefs' cornerback stayed on the ground for several minutes before being assisted off the field. He was diagnosed with a concussion and has been listed as day-to-day.

Larry Johnson, kan

Although he only had nine carries -- compared to starter Priest Holmes' 22 rushes -- Johnson rumbled for 110 yards and two touchdowns in Sunday's season-opening victory over the New York Jets. The Chiefs' backup running back scored from 35 yards out in the first quarter before adding a four-yard TD in the fourth. Holmes finished with 85 yards and a touchdown.

9/11/2005

Michael Bennett, kan

Apparently, Bennett's neck injury continues to be a concern, so the Vikings plan to limit his carries in Sunday's season opener against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. As a result, Mewelde Moore and Moe Williams will split the majority of the touches out of the backfield this week.

9/8/2005

Dante Hall, kan

As anticipated, Hall returned to practice with the Kansas City Chiefs on Wednesday, and he will be ready for this weekend's regular-season opener against the New York Jets, according to head coach Dick Vermeil. The receiver has been limited recently by a sore knee.

9/7/2005

John Browning, kan

After missing nearly a month of action with a back injury, Browning returned to practice with the Chiefs earlier this week, and he should be available for Sunday's regular-season opener against the New York Jets, according to head coach Dick Vermeil. In 16 games last season, the defensive tackle notched 39 tackles, 4.5 sacks and a forced fumble.

9/6/2005

Trent Green, kan

Green was back at practice with the Kansas City Chiefs on Monday and he was able to take part in nearly all of his normal drills, according to head coach Dick Vermeil. The veteran quarterback, who underwent surgery last week to repair an artery problem in his leg that was causing foot soreness and numbness, said he will be in the starting lineup for Sunday's meeting with the New York Jets.

Dante Hall, kan

Hall did not work out with the Kansas City Chiefs on Monday, due to a sore knee. The receiver, who has been battling the minor problem for the past couple of weeks, should return to practice on Wednesday and be ready for this weekend's regular-season opener, according to head coach Dick Vermeil. The Chiefs have an off-day on Tuesday.

Michael Bennett, kan

Bennett is slated to be in the Vikings' starting backfield when the team takes the field in Sunday's regular-season opener against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The running back has been limited over the past couple of weeks with a sprained neck, but took part in all drills during Monday's workout and reported no major problems.

9/3/2005

Ashley Ambrose, kan

Ambrose was among the players cut by the Kansas City Chiefs on Saturday. He had signed a one-year deal with the Chiefs after spending the 2004 season with the New Orleans Saints.

Jonathan Quinn, kan

Quinn, who had been battling Damon Huard for the No. 3 quarterback job, was cut by the Kansas City Chiefs on Saturday.

John Welbourn, kan

Welbourn has been suspended for the first four regular-season games of the 2005 season for violating the NFL's steroid policy. The reserve offensive lineman lost his appeal of the suspension and will not be eligible to rejoin the roster or practice with the Chiefs until October 16.

Quentin Griffin, kan

Griffin was among the players cut by the Denver Broncos on Saturday. The third-year running back played in just six games in 2004 after tearing his right anterior cruciate ligament, but he had been running and cutting at full strength over the past week or so.

9/2/2005

Freddie Mitchell, kan

Mitchell has been released by the Kansas City Chiefs. The receiver had been limited since suffering a slight meniscus tear in his right knee during the first week of training camp, but recently resumed working out with the team. Because of his limited time on the field, he did not have an opportunity to make an impression and move up the Chiefs' depth chart.

9/1/2005

Trent Green, kan

Battling numbness in his left foot recently, Green underwent a minor surgical procedure on Tuesday to open up an artery in his leg and correct a circulation problem. The Chiefs' starting quarterback will not play in Friday's preseason finale against the St. Louis Rams, but he'll be ready for Week 1 of the regular season, according to head coach Dick Vermeil.

8/31/2005

Robert Holcombe, kan

The sprained knee Holcombe suffered in an exhibition game against the Minnesota Vikings earlier this month has landed the running back on injured reserve for Kansas City. Holcombe, who signed a one-year contract with the Chiefs in April after being released by the Tennessee Titans in a salary cap move, will miss the entire 2005 season.

8/30/2005

Trent Green, kan

All tests on Green's troublesome leg were normal. The Chiefs' quarterback was battling some numbness in his calf and foot during practice last week, before aggravating the problem when his toe was stepped on early in Saturday's exhibition game. According to head coach Dick Vermeil, Green should not miss any time because of the minor ailment.

Freddie Mitchell, kan

Mitchell looked very good in practice on Monday, according to head coach Dick Vermeil, and barring any setbacks, he will make his Chiefs debut in Friday's preseason finale against the St. Louis Rams. The receiver has been limited since suffering a slight meniscus tear in his right knee during the first week of training camp.

Michael Bennett, kan

Bennett practiced on Monday and appears to be on track to start the opening game for the Vikings. He will be held out of Friday's preseason game as a precaution for his strained neck.

Kendrell Bell, kan

According to head coach Dick Vermeil, Bell will make his Chiefs debut in Friday's preseason finale against the St. Louis Rams. The team has been very cautious with the linebacker, who was limited to just three games by a groin injury last season and has been nursing a shoulder problem in training camp this year. He will be in the starting lineup to begin the regular season.

8/29/2005

Trent Green, kan

Battling some numbness in his calf and foot during practice last week, Green aggravated the problem when his toe was stepped on early in Saturday's contest. The Chiefs' quarterback was scheduled to see more playing time, but the team decided to pull him out in the second quarter as a precautionary measure. According to head coach Dick Vermeil, the injury is not considered serious, and Green is expected to be ready for the start of the regular season.

8/26/2005

Dante Hall, kan

As a precautionary measure, Hall will be held out of Saturday's exhibition meeting with the Seattle Seahawks, due to a sore knee that has limited him recently. The receiver said the injury is minor, and he plans to play in the team's preseason finale next week.

Freddie Mitchell, kan

Mitchell hasn't had a chance to get into the flow of things with the Kansas City Chiefs, as he's been limited most of training camp with a slight meniscus tear in his right knee. According to head coach Dick Vermeil, there's a good chance that the former Eagles receiver likely won't make the 53-man roster.

8/25/2005

Will Shields, kan

Sidelined most of the summer with a chronically sore back, Shields returned to practice with the Kansas City Chiefs on Wednesday and said that he would be ready for the start of the regular season. The 12-year pro, who has played in 192 consecutive games since being drafted in the third round in 1993, has been a Pro Bowl selection each of the past 10 seasons.

8/24/2005

Jonathan Quinn, kan

Quinn has signed with the Kansas City Chiefs, agreeing to a one-year contract. The veteran quarterback, who spent last season with the Chicago Bears, is expected to battle Damon Huard for the Chiefs' third-string job, backing up starter Trent Green and No. 2 signal caller Todd Collins.

Mike Maslowski, kan

Maslowski, who has not played since 2003 because of lingering knee problems, has been released by the Kansas City Chiefs. The team has said it will consider re-signing the linebacker in the future if he is able to get back to full strength.

Michael Bennett, kan

There have been conflicting reports coming out of Vikings camp this week concerning Bennett's status. According to head coach Mike Tice, the running back could miss the regular-season opener, due to the strained neck he suffered in an exhibition loss to the New York Jets last weekend. However, Bennett has said the injury is minor, and he expects to play in the team's preseason finale and be ready for Week 1.

8/23/2005

Michael Bennett, kan

An MRI on Bennett's sprained neck showed some minor swelling, but no structural damage was found. The Vikings' running back is expected to be limited in practice this week and it's unlikely that he will play in Friday's exhibition game against the San Diego Chargers. According to head coach Mike Tice, Mewelde Moore will get the starting nod.

8/22/2005

Ty Law, kan

Law practiced for the first time since being signed by the Jets on August 8. He was only thrown to once, and that ball was tipped at the line, so it allowed Law to ease back into live action. The cornerback had been out of action since October 31 of last season with a broken foot.

8/19/2005

Kendrell Bell, kan

Bell continues to be limited to non-contract drills in training camp, as the Chiefs are being very cautious with the linebacker, considering he was limited to just three games last season by a nagging groin injury. According to head coach Dick Vermeil, Bell will not play in Saturday's exhibition matchup with the Arizona Cardinals, but he should see some time next weekend versus the Seattle Seahawks.

Quentin Griffin, kan

Griffin had hoped to see some time in Saturday's preseason game against the San Francisco 49ers, but the Broncos have decided to hold him out as a precautionary measure. The running back, whose 2004 campaign ended early due to a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee, has been running and cutting at full speed this week, and no problems have been reported. He should be close to full strength by the start of the regular season.

8/18/2005

Quentin Griffin, kan

According to Broncos head coach Mike Shanahan, Griffin has been running and cutting at full speed this week, and no problems have been reported. The running back, whose 2004 campaign ended early due to a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee, could see some time in this weekend's preseason battle with the San Francisco 49ers, although his action would be limited.

8/17/2005

Tony Gonzalez, kan

If his troublesome left foot wasn't enough to worry about, Gonzalez now is nursing a broken pinkie finger. However, the new injury has not prevented the tight end from practicing with the Kansas City Chiefs, and he does not anticipate missing any time going forward. Despite constant foot pain, Gonzalez did not miss a game last year, finishing with an NFL-best 102 receptions, an all-time NFL record for tight ends in a single season.

Lawrence Tynes, kan

Tynes has been charged with one felony count of susbstantial battery and one count of misdemeanor battery after breaking a bouncer's nose in a bar fight early Sunday. The Chiefs' kicker made a court appearance early Wednesday, posted a $15,000 bond and took part in the team's practice later in the day. If convicted, Tynes could face up to 3.5 years in jail.

8/15/2005

Eddie Kennison, kan

Kennison was a late scratch from the Kansas City Chiefs' lineup for Friday's exhibition game against the Minnesota Vikings, as he was excused to tend to a family illness. The veteran receiver, who was replaced by Chris Horn, is expected to be ready for the team's next contest. Tight end Tony Gonzalez and Kennison will be Trent Green's top options in the Chiefs' passing attack in 2005.

Priest Holmes, kan

As anticipated, Holmes was able to play in Friday's exhibition game against the Minnesota Vikings, but he was limited to just a couple of offensive series as a precautionary measure. The Chiefs' running back, who was out of action for a few days earlier in the week with a bruised leg, made the most of his time on the field, picking up 42 yards on just four carries.

Robert Holcombe, kan

Holcombe has been diagnosed with a sprained left knee, an injury suffered in Friday's exhibition game against the Minnesota Vikings. The running back, who signed a one-year contract with the Chiefs in April after being released by the Tennessee Titans in a salary cap move, is expected to be sidelined for the next 3-6 weeks.

8/12/2005

Freddie Mitchell, kan

According to Chiefs head coach Dick Vermeil, Mitchell should resume practicing within the next week or so. The receiver elected to forgo arthroscopic surgery to repair a slight meniscus tear in his right knee -- an injury suffered early in training camp -- opting for rest, strengthening and rehab instead.

Kendrell Bell, kan

Bell has been working out with the Chiefs without any problems, but because he was limited to just three games last season by a nagging groin injury, the team has decided to hold him out of Friday's preseason game against the Minnesota Vikings. The move is considered precautionary, and the linebacker is expected to be ready for the start of the regular season.

8/11/2005

Tony Gonzalez, kan

Despite aggravating his troublesome left foot last weekend, Gonzalez has reported improvement this week, and barring any setbacks, he will play in Friday's exhibition game against the Minnesota Vikings. However, the tight end is slated to see limited action. Gonzalez underwent minor surgery on the foot during the offseason after playing the entire 2004 campaign through pain.

Priest Holmes, kan

Holmes plans to play in Friday's exhibition game against the Minnesota Vikings, but he's expected to be limited to one or two series. The Chiefs' running back was out of action for a few days earlier this week, due to a bruised leg. However, he returned to practice on Tuesday and reported no lingering problems.

Larry Johnson, kan

Johnson's sore thigh has improved over the past couple of days, and he has every intention of playing in Friday's exhibition game against the Minnesota Vikings. The minor injury forced the Chiefs' running back to miss some practice time earlier this week, but it does not appear to be a lingering problem.

Quentin Griffin, kan

The Broncos are not going to push Griffin too quickly, as he continues to recover from a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee. The running back, who suffered the injury while returing a kickoff last October, has been ruled out of Saturday's exhibition matchup with the Houston Texans.

8/10/2005

Priest Holmes, kan

Sidelined since Saturday with a bruised leg, Holmes returned to practice with the Chiefs on Tuesday, although it was a limited indoor workout. The running back had no problems, but a decision on whether he plays in Friday's exhibition game likely won't be made until later this week. If he is held out, it will be purely a precautionary move. With Larry Johnson banged up a bit as well, Dee Brown could get the starting nod this weekend.

Larry Johnson, kan

Johnson missed both practices on Monday due to a strained thigh, and his status for the Chiefs' first preseason game on Friday has yet to be determined. More than likely, the team will either limited the running back's carries or hold him out of the game altogether. He is listed as day-to-day.

8/9/2005

Samie Parker, kan

Parker will be part of the Chiefs' starting lineup this season, lining up opposite top wideout Eddie Kennison, head coach Dick Vermeil announced over the weekend. The second-year receiver appeared in just four games during his rookie campaign, hauling in nine passes for 137 yards and a touchdown.

8/8/2005

Ty Law, kan

Law, who was released by the New England Patriots in a salary cap move in February, has agreed to a multiyear contract with the New York Jets. According to his agent, the deal could be worth as much as $28.5 million over the first three years and up to $50 million over seven years. The former Pro Bowl cornerback missed the last nine regular-season games of 2004 and all of the postseason after breaking his foot, but reportedly is back to full strength.

Tony Gonzalez, kan

Gonzalez aggravated his troublesome left foot during a workout over the weekend, and he is expected to miss some practice time over the next several days, according to Chiefs head coach Dick Vermeil. The veteran tight end, who has been battling the chronic problem for a couple of years, was taken in for precautionary X-rays, which were negative. He'll be evaluated on a daily basis to determine his status and availability.

8/3/2005

Freddie Mitchell, kan

Upon further review, Mitchell has elected to forgo arthroscopic surgery to repair a slight meniscus tear in his right knee. The wide receiver instead will take 7-10 days to rest the injury, with the hope of returning for the final stretch of Chiefs training camp. Doctors in Atlanta, where Mitchell had traveled to seek a second opinion, told the former Eagle that surgery would keep him sidelined for the better part of four weeks.

8/2/2005

Will Shields, kan

Shields has yet to participate in Chiefs training camp this year due to a chronically sore back, but the veteran guard told reporters on Tuesday that he does not plan to retire. The 12-year pro, who has played in 192 consecutive games since being drafted in the third round in 1993, had hinted earlier in the year that he might not return in 2005. Shields currently is awaiting results from a third opinion that he received on his back injury.

8/1/2005

Freddie Mitchell, kan

Mitchell will undergo arthroscopic surgery on Monday after injuring his right knee in training camp on Saturday. He has been diagnosed with a possible tear in the lateral meniscus. The wide receiver, who was acquired by the Chiefs during the offseason after being cut by the Eagles, will likely be out for 2-3 weeks, which means he will miss a majority of camp.

Derrick Johnson, kan

Johnson and the Chiefs agreed to terms on Sunday on a five-year deal that was expected to pave the way for the rookie to report to training camp on Monday. The contract could be worth as much as $13.6 million with incentives. The linebacker out of Texas was taken in the first round of this year's draft (15th overall), after he spent four years posting some eye-catching career totals for the Longhorns, including 10.5 sacks, nine interceptions and 11 forced fumbles.

7/22/2005

Derrick Alexander, kan

Alexander has signed a one-day contract with Kansas City Chiefs and announced his retirement from the NFL. The 33-year-old receiver, who was a second-round draft pick of the Cleveland Browns in 1994, appeared in 126 games during his career, hauling in 417 passes for 6,971 yards and 40 touchdowns. He also added a rushing TD and a punt return for a score.

7/8/2005

Quentin Griffin, kan

Griffin, who tore the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee while returing a kickoff last October, has fully recovered and is practicing at full speed, according to Denver Broncos head coach Mike Shanahan. The running back had captured the starting tailback job prior to his injury and rushed for 311 yards and two touchdowns on 85 carries in six games. He also hauled in 10 passes for 68 yards and a TD.

7/1/2005

Ashley Ambrose, kan

Ambrose has signed a one-year contract with the Kansas City Chiefs. The veteran cornerback spent last season with the New Orleans Saints, notching 26 tackles, three interceptions and one forced fumble in nine games, including six starts. He missed some time with a minor tear in the posterior cruciate ligament in his left knee.

6/18/2005

Freddie Mitchell, kan

The Kansas City Chiefs signed free agent receiver Freddie Mitchell to a one-year, $540,000 deal on Saturday, just one day after the team announced that Az-Zahir Hakim had changed his mind and would not join the club. Mitchell, who requested and was granted his release from the Philadelphia Eagles last month, caught 22 passes for 377 yards and two touchdowns in 2004.

6/16/2005

Michael Bennett, kan

Bennett is healthy and appears to be ready to enter Vikings camp at 100 percent for the first time in two years. The running back recently was clocked at 9.91 seconds in a 100-meter race this spring, a time that "would have been a fifth-place finish in the last Olympics in Athens, Greece," Minnesota running backs coach Dean Dalton told the St. Paul Pioneer Press. In spring workouts, quarterback Daunte Culpepper said, "It's the best he has looked since he's been here."

6/7/2005

Kyle Turley, kan

After failing his physical, Turley has been released by the St. Louis Rams. The veteran offensive lineman has started all 95 games in which he has played since being drafted with the seventh overall pick in the 1998 NFL Draft. However, he missed all of last season while recovering from surgery to repair a herniated disc in his back, and obviously, he's still not back to 100 percent.

6/4/2005

Freddie Mitchell, kan

The Kansas City Chiefs will bring Mitchell in for an interview and workout next week. This is Mitchell's first visit with a team since being released by the Eagles in early May, although his agent has reportedly received priliminary inquiries from other teams.

5/14/2005

Ty Law, kan

Law visited the Miami Dolphins on Thursday. The former Pro Bowl cornerback, who is still recovering from a broken foot that cost him to miss the last nine regular season games of 2004 and all of the postseason, has been making the rounds since being released by New England in February.

5/6/2005

Freddie Mitchell, kan

In an expected move, the Philadelphia Eagles cut their ties with Mitchell on Friday. The receiver, who was the 25th overall pick in the 2001 NFL Draft, has made some questionable off-field comments during his time in the league, which likely contributed in part to his release. In addition, he has failed to live up to expectations. In 63 career games, Mitchell has 90 catches for 1,263 yards and five touchdowns.

4/26/2005

Ian Allen, kan

Allen joins his third team in as many years, agreeing to terms with the Arizona Cardinals. The offensive lineman spent last season with the Philadelphia Eagles, appearing in just four games.

4/22/2005

Patrick Surtain, kan

The Miami Dolphins have traded Surtain and a fifth-round pick to the Kansas City Chiefs in exchange for selections in the second and fifth rounds of this weekend's NFL Draft. The veteran cornerback has been with the Dolphins since being selected in the second round of the 1998 Draft, appearing in 108 games over that span. Last year, he had 58 tackles, four interceptions and one sack in 15 contests.

4/21/2005

Dee Brown, kan

Brown has signed with the Kansas City Chiefs, agreeing to a one-year contract. The running back, who was a sixth-round selection of the Carolina Panthers in 2001, spent last season with the Cleveland Browns, appearing in five games. He did not record a carry or reception, but averaged 18.7 yards on 13 kickoff returns.
