Ryan Fitzpatrick

12/12/2005

Fitzpatrick definitely looked like a rookie in Sunday's 27-13 loss to the Minnesota Vikings, posting a dismal 32.4 passer rating. The Rams' quarterback, who was a seventh-round pick in this year's draft, finished the contest 26 of 45 for 235 yards, five interceptions and no passing touchdowns. He rushed for 16 yards and notched his second rushing TD of the season on five carries.

Rams interim head coach Joe Vitt has decided that Fitzpatrick will remain under center going forward, at least until regular starter Marc Bulger is able to return from his shoulder injury. The rookie quarterback, who made his first NFL start this past weekend, is 40 of 66 for 473 yards, three touchdowns and two interceptions in two games. He also has a rushing TD, but has been sacked eight times and fumbled twice, losing one.

Making his first career start in place of the injured Jamie Martin, Fitzpatrick was 21 for 36 for 163 yards and an interception in Sunday's loss to Washington. The Rams' quarterback was sacked three times and lost a fumble, but also ran for a touchdown, the only St. Louis offensive score of the game.

Fitzpatrick has taken all of the snaps with the Rams' first-team offense this week, and on Friday, he officially was named the team's starter for Sunday's meeting with the Washington Redskins. After Jamie Martin was knocked out of last week's game with blurred vision, the rookie quarterback stepped into the lineup and led the team to an overtime victory over the Houston Texans. He finished 19 of 30 for 310 yards and three touchdowns.

Jamie Martin did not practice with the St. Louis Rams on Wednesday, as he continues to be bothered by blurred vision. As a result, Fitzpatrick took all the snaps with the first-team offense and is expected to be under center when the team takes the field against the Washington Redskins on Sunday. Stepping in after Martin went down last weekend, the rookie quarterback led the Rams to a comeback overtime victory over the Houston Texans.

Although nothing is official, it appears the St. Louis Rams are leaning toward giving Fitzpatrick the starting nod in Sunday's matchup with the Washington Redskins. After Jamie Martin was knocked out of last week's game with blurred vision, the rookie quarterback stepped into the lineup and led the team to an overtime victory over the Houston Texans. He finished 19 of 30 for 310 yards and three touchdowns, but tossed one interception and was sacked five times.
