Cassel will go into the 2005 regular season as the New England Patriots' No. 3 quarterback, beating out Rohan Davey, who was released by the team on Monday. Cassel, a seventh-round pick in this year's draft, will be listed behind starter Tom Brady and top backup Doug Flutie on the Pats' depth chart.
