Darren Sproles

8/16/2006

Sproles is out for the season with a broken left leg. The Chargers running back was placed on injured reserve on Tuesday after undergoing surgery on his fractured fibula."That's not good news, but that's the way it goes," Chargers general manager A.J. Smith said. "The time frame was too much, three to four months. When you look at it, it just doesn't make sense right now to bring him back. He should have a full recover."

Sproles likely will be limited in practice this week after spraining his ankle in the fourth quarter of Sunday's win over the New England Patriots. However, the rookie running back, who was a fourth-round pick in this year's draft, plans to be ready for next Monday night's matchup with the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Sproles agreed to a four-year deal with the San Diego Chargers on Friday. Terms of the deal for the 2005 fourth-round pick were not announced.
