Jerome Mathis

6/1/2006

Mathis will have surgery on Friday to repair a broken bone in his left foot, meaning the Texans Pro Bowl returner will be out for at least three months. Mathis ranked second in the league in kickoff returns with a 28.6 yard average and returned two kickoffs for touchdowns.

Mathis has been ruled out of Sunday's matchup with the Jacksonville Jaguars, due to a strained hamstring. The rookie receiver has seen the majority of his playing time on special teams, serving as the Texans' kick returner.

Unable to practice all week because of a strained hamstring, Mathis is expected to miss Sunday's season opener against the Buffalo Bills. The rookie receiver, who was a fourth-round pick in this year's draft, officially is listed as questionable.
