Ciatrick Fason
11/16/2005
With Moe Williams out for the season after undergoing knee surgery this week, Fason should see more time in the Vikings' backfield going forward. The rookie running back, who was a fourth-round pick in this year's draft, is expected to take over as the team's primary short-yardage back.

Fason has returned to practice with the Minnesota Vikings earlier than expected and reported being pain-free after Monday's workouts. The rookie running back suffered a high ankle sprain last week and was expected to miss up to three weeks. However, he'll likely get the starting nod against the Seattle Seahawks on Thursday, if the Vikings decide to hold out top two tailbacks Michael Bennett and Mewelde Moore as a precautionary measure.

Fason left Friday's exhibition game against the Kansas City Chiefs with what was thought to be a sprained knee. However, the Vikings' rookie running back has been diagnosed with a high ankle sprain instead. The injury reportedly will keep Fason sidelined for at least three weeks, putting his availability for the start of the regular season in question.

Fason left Friday's preseason game against the New York Jets after spraining his right knee. No word yet on the seriousness of the injury.

Fason agreed to terms on a three-year, $1.267 million deal with Minnesota on Monday, a pact that included a $342,000 signing bonus. The running back out of Florida is expected to be in camp when the Vikings report to Mankato on Friday. Fason spent three years at UF, taking over the full-time halfback duties last season and rushing for 1,267 yards and 10 touchdowns. He also caught 35 passes for 266 yards and a pair of scores.
