Antrel Rolle

12/2/2005

Barring any setbacks, Rolle could return to the Cardinals' defensive backfield in time for a December 11 meeting with the Washington Redskins. The rookie cornerback, who was the eighth overall pick in this year's draft, has been sidelined since undergoing surgery to repair torn cartilage in his left knee more than two months ago. He did some individual work at the Cardinals' practice on Thursday, but did not take part in team drills.

According to head coach Dennis Green, the Cardinals will hold off on placing Rolle on injured reserve for the time being. The team is hopeful that the cornerback will recover from his knee surgery quickly and be available to contribute in the closing weeks of the 2005 campaign. Earlier this week, Green indicated that Rolle was likely lost for the season.

After further evaluation, ligament damage has been found in Rolle's ailing left knee, and he will be forced to undergo surgery, according to Cardinals head coach Dennis Green. The rookie cornerback, who was the eighth overall pick in this year's draft, will miss the rest of the season.

To determine if surgery is necessary on his ailing left knee, Rolle has traveled to Miami to be evaluated by a specialist. According to Cardinals head coach Dennis Green, if the cornerback is forced to go under the knife as expected, he will be sidelined for at least a month. Rolle already has been listed as out for Sunday's meeting with the San Francisco 49ers.

On Tuesday, the Arizona Cardinals signed their first-round draft pick Antrel Rolle to a six-year contract -- financial terms of the deal were not released. The Cardinals were eager to get the rookie cornerback in camp to help bolster their defensive backfield. Rolle was the second defensive back taken in the 2005 draft, and the eighth pick overall.
