Braylon Edwards

7/30/2006

Edwards, who underwent knee surgery in January and wasn't expected to be ready to play in games until October, unexpectedly returned to practice for the first time with the Browns on Saturday. Edwards tore the anterior cruciate ligament while trying to make a leaping catch against Jacksonville on Dec. 4, ending his rookie season and requiring him to undergo surgery on Jan. 3.

Edwards, who has been sidelined since coming down awkwardly while attempting to make a leaping catch in a Dec. 4 loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars, underwent surgery on Tuesday to repair the torn anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee. The Browns' rookie receiver will be sidelined indefinitely as he recovers from the procedure. There is no guarantee that he will be ready for the start of training camp next summer.

12/5/2005

Tests on Edwards' right knee have revealed a torn anterior cruciate ligament, and the receiver will be forced to undergo surgery in the near future, ending his 2005 campaign. The Browns' rookie, who was the third overall pick in this year's draft, had to be carted to the locker room after coming down awkwardly while attempting to make a leaping catch in the fourth quarter of Sunday's loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Edwards has recovered from the infection in his elbow, and he continues to progress in the Browns' system. As a result, the rookie receiver, who was the third overall pick in this year's draft, will become more involved in the offensive attack going forward, according to head coach Romeo Crennel. Antonio Bryant will remain as the top option in the passing game, while Edwards and Dennis Northcutt will split time at No. 2.

10/23/2005

Edwards is expected to play for the Browns in Sunday's home game against the Lions. The rookie wide receiver has missed the past two games due to an infection in his right elbow.

10/19/2005

Edwards participated in the Browns' workout today, and may be able to return to the active squad much sooner than originally anticipated. He is listed as doubtful for this Sunday's game against the Detroit Lions.

10/12/2005

Edwards has been released from the hospital after undergoing surgery to remove some infection from his right elbow over the weekend. According to his father, the Browns' rookie receiver could be sidelined 4-6 weeks, but he hopes to be back on the field sooner than that. Edwards already has been ruled out of Sunday's matchup with the Baltimore Ravens, and his status currently is listed as week-to-week.

10/10/2005

Not only did Edwards undergo surgery to remove some infection in his right elbow on Saturday, but he remains the hospital for evaluation and treatment and likely won't be released until Tuesday or Wednesday. The Browns' rookie receiver was unable to play in Sunday's game against the Bears after the elbow swelled up over the previous couple of days, prompting the procedure. His status will be updated later this week.

10/9/2005

After undergoing a minor medical procedure on Saturday to treat an infection in his elbow, Edwards has been ruled out of Sunday's meeting with the Chicago Bears. The rookie receiver was a last-minute scratch, as he practiced with the Browns all week and was not on the injury report. The team has not indicated when Edwards will return.

9/19/2005

Edwards scored the first touchdown of his NFL career in Sunday's victory over the Green Bay Packers, hauling in a Trent Dilfer pass for an 80-yard score. The Browns' rookie receiver, who was the third overall pick in this year's draft, finished the contest with three catches for 107 yards. He had just two receptions in his NFL debut last week.

9/9/2005

Due to missing the first couple weeks of training camp in a holdout, Edwards has been forced to work his way up the Cleveland Browns' depth chart. The rookie receiver, who was the third overall pick in this year's draft, will be used as the team's No. 3 wideout in this weekend's regular-season opener against the Cincinnati Bengals.

8/11/2005

Edwards will officially sign with the Cleveland Browns on Thursday after agreeing to a five-year contract late Wednesday night. The receiver was the third overall pick in this year's draft after posting three 1,000-yard seasons at the University of Michigan. He finished with 87 catches for 1,221 yards and 12 touchdowns last year en route to being named the Biletnikoff Award winner as the nation's top wideout.
