Pickett will drop from the starting lineup to third on the depth chart, as the San Francisco 49ers have decided to make yet another change at quarterback. Ken Dorsey will get the nod in Sunday's meeting with the Seattle Seahawks after recovering from a sprained ankle that limited him for the last couple of weeks. Regular starter Alex Smith (knee) should be healthy enough to serve as Dorsey's backup, and he could be back under center as early as next week.

According to 49ers head coach Mike Nolan, Pickett will get the nod against the Chicago Bears on Sunday, making his second consecutive start. The quarterback is filling in for Alex Smith, who will miss his third straight game with a strained knee. Regular No. 2 Ken Dorsey is still a bit hobbled by a sprained ankle, but should be available for backup duty this weekend, if needed.

Pickett officially has been named as the 49ers' starter for Sunday's matchup with the New York Giants, as Alex Smith still can't bend his sprained knee and Ken Dorsey is sporting a protective boot on his sprained and swollen ankle. Jesse Palmer, who signed with the team earlier this week, will handle the primary backup duties.

Alex Smith still can't bend his sprained knee and Ken Dorsey is sporting a protective boot on his sprained and swollen ankle, so the 49ers are expected to give Pickett the starting nod in Sunday's meeting with the New York Giants. The third-string quarterback saw his first action under center last weekend when Dorsey went down, completing his only pass attempt for 10 yards and picking up 12 yards on two rushes.
