Patrick Crayton

3/8/2006

Crayton signed a one-year contract extension with the Cowboys for $385,000 and will return to the team for his third NFL season.

12/1/2005

According to Cowboys head coach Bill Parcells, Crayton is expected to return to action in Sunday's matchup with the New York Giants. The second-year receiver, who has been sidelined since Week 6 after undergoing surgery to repair ligament damage in his ankle, practiced with the team on Wednesday and currently is not listed on the injury report.

Crayton's ankle has shown enough improvement recently for him to be listed as questionable for Thursday's meeting with the Denver Broncos, but it's highly unlikely that he will play considering he has yet to resume practicing at full speed. The receiver has been sidelined since undergoing surgery to repair ligament damage in the ankle in mid-October.

Although he's still at least three weeks away from returning to action, Crayton is expected to expand his rehab work this week after having the protective boot removed from his right foot on Monday. The Cowboys' receiver has been sidelined since undergoing surgery to repair ligament damage in his ankle in mid-October. Prior to the injury, he had hauled in 18 passes for 272 yards and two touchdowns serving as the team's third wideout in six games this season.

After undergoing more tests on Monday, Crayton does not have a broken bone in his ankle, as was feared originally. However, the Cowboys' receiver reportedly has a significant sprain and will be sidelined for at least a month, according to head coach Bill Parcells. Peerless Price will move up a spot on the depth chart and take over as the team's No. 3 wideout until Crayton can return.

Crayton is hoping to hold off the recently acquired Peerless Price for the No. 3 receiver role for the Cowboys this season, as his performance in Sunday's opener against the San Diego Chargers certainly helped his cause. The second-year wideout, who was a seventh-round pick in last year's draft, finished with a career-high six catches for 89 yards and a touchdown.
