Jeff Smoker
8/10/2006
The Kansas City Chiefs agreed to terms of a two-year contract with former Michigan State quarterback Jeff Smoker Thursday. Smoker spent the past two seasons with the Philadelphia Eagles and the St. Louis Rams who chose him in the sixth round of the 2004 NFL draft. He was on the Rams active roster for all 16 games in '04, but has never appeared in a game.

The Philadelphia Eagles have promoted Smoker from their practice squad, filling the roster spot of kicker Jose Cortez, who was released on Tuesday. With regular starter Donovan McNabb out for the season, the quarterback will be listed third on the team's depth chart behind Mike McMahon and Koy Detmer.

Smoker, who was re-signed to the practice squad last week after being cut in training camp, has been added to the Rams' active roster for Sunday's game against the New Orleans Saints.
