Devery Henderson

10/9/2005

With Joe Horn out with a strained hamstring and Az-Zahir Hakim likely limited by a sore knee, Henderson is expected to start opposite Donte' Stallworth in Sunday's game against the Green Bay Packers. In three contests this season, the second-year receiver has seven catches for 144 yards.

With Az-Zahir Hakim recovered from a nagging hamstring injury, Henderson will be inactive for Sunday's regular-season opener against the Carolina Panthers. The receivers had been competing for the No. 3 spot on the Saints' depth chart, backing up starters Joe Horn and Donte' Stallworth.

Henderson has been battling for the job as the Saints' No. 3 receiver, and according to head coach Jim Haslett, he currently has the lead over Az-Zahir Hakim, who continues to be limited by a hamstring injury. Joe Horn and Donte' Stallworth have a firm grip on the two starting spots. A second-round pick in the 2004 NFL Draft, Henderson appeared in just one game last season and did not record a catch.

Henderson was expected to miss some time after suffering a Grade 2 sprain of his right shoulder in last Friday's preseason matchup with the Seattle Seahawks, but he was back at practice with the New Orleans Saints on Sunday. The team will keep an eye on the receiver, who is competing with Az-Zahir Hakim for a backup job this season.
