Rashaun Woods

4/13/2006

The 49ers traded Woods to the Chargers in exchange for cornerback Sammy Davis on Wednesday. Woods, the 31st pick in the 2004 draft, never started a game at wide receiver for the 49ers. He had seven receptions for 160 yards and one touchdown in 2004, but was placed on injured reserve last season with a minor thumb problem and didn't play a single game.

After undergoing more tests, it has been determined that Woods will require surgery to repair the ligament damage in his right thumb, an injury suffered late last week. As a result, the San Francisco 49ers have placed the receiver, who was 31st overall pick in the 2004 NFL Draft, on injured reserve, officially ending his 2005 campaign. He did not record a catch this season.

After missing the majority of training camp with groin and quadriceps injuries, Woods has returned to practice with the San Francisco 49ers. The receiver, who was the 31st overall pick in the 2004 NFL Draft, hopes to see some time in Friday's exhibition meeting with the Denver Broncos, barring any setbacks. He was limited by hamstring problems last season and finished with just seven catches for 160 yards and a touchdown in 14 games.

Woods has been sidelined nearly all of training camp with groin and quadriceps injuries. The 49ers' receiver, who was a first-round pick in the 2004 NFL Draft, does not know when he will be able to return to action. He continues to be listed as day-to-day.
