8/12/2006

Roethlisberger played one series in the Pittsburgh Steelers' preseason game against the Arizona Cardinals on Saturday. He was 3-for-4 for 29 yards.

8/10/2006

Roethlisberger will start the Pittsburgh Steelers exhibition game Saturday against the Arizona Cardinals, two months to the day after his career-threatening motorcycle accident.

8/3/2006

Roethlisberger pronounced himself fit for the defending Super Bowl champion Pittsburgh Steelers' first preseason game and said Thursday that coach Bill Cowher would have to "hold me back" from playing Aug. 12 in Arizona. The Steelers' quarterback was encouraged by his form in practice Wednesday, flashing signs of the play that helped him propel Pittsburgh to the Super Bowl win. He continues on the comeback trail from a career-threatening motorcycle accident June 12.

7/13/2006

In his first interview since his June 12 motorcycle accident, Roethlisberger said told ESPN's "Sportcenter" on Wednesday that he was "seconds, maybe a minute away from dying." The Steelers' quarterback said a slit vein or artery in his mouth or throat was draining blood into his stomach, but luckily a paramedic noticed it and stopped it.

6/21/2006

Roethlisberger visited the Steelers' offices on Tuesday, the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reported on its Web site. The Steelers' quarterback was accompanied by bodyguards and wearing a hood to cover facial injuries sustained in a motorcycle crash. Pittsburgh coaches said the swelling and bruising that was visible on Roethisberger's neck and face last week had subsided. He stopped by to pick up mail and other items and did not participate in any workouts.

6/19/2006

Roethlisberger did not possess a valid motorcycle license at the time of his accident last week and will be issued $388 in fines and fees for riding without a license and failure to wear a helmet, Pittsburgh police said Monday. Riders can't ride without a helmet in Pennsylvania unless they have possessed a valid motorcycle license for at least two years.

6/16/2006

Roethlisberger pledged to wear a helmet if he ever rides a motorcycle among his first commments after undergoing surgery. The Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback wrecked his motorcycle Monday, sustaining a broken jaw and nose in the accident. He was released from the hospital Wednesday. "I've gained a new perspective on life," he said. "By the grace of God, I'm fortunate to be alive."

6/15/2006

Roethlisberger was released from the hospital on Wednesday after being treated for injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident on Monday. The Steelers' quarterback suffered a broken jaw and nose in the accident and how this affects his preparation for the season is unknown.

6/12/2006

Roethlisberger broke his jaw and nose in a motorcycle crash on Monday after being thrown from his bike while not wearing a helmet. The Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback was taken to a hospital and was in serious, but stable condition. Roethlisberger had been warned by coach Bill Cowher about safe riding after Cleveland tight end Kellen Winslow Jr. was injured in a motorcycle accident. Winslow tore knee ligaments and was lost for the season.

2/6/2006

Roethlisberger completed 9 of 21 passes for 123 yards with two interceptions in Sunday's 21-10 Super Bowl win over the Seahawks. The Steelers' quarterback also rushed for a one-yard touchdown in the second quarter.

1/22/2006

Roethlisberger was sharp all afternoon in the AFC championship game Sunday, completing 21 of 29 passes for 275 yards and two touchdowns in the Steelers' 34-17 win over the Denver Broncos. He also rushed for a 4-yard touchdown.

1/9/2006

Roethlisberger tossed only 19 passes in Sunday's Wild Card matchup with the Cincinnati Bengals, but he made the most of the limited attempts, completing 14 for 208 yards, three touchdowns and no interceptions. The Steelers' second-year quarterback also picked up three yards on four rushes and was sacked just once in a 31-17 victory.

1/1/2006

Roethlisberger will play with his injured thumb on Sunday. The Pittsburgh Steelers would have wrapped up the last playoff spot in the AFC if San Diego would have beaten Denver on Saturday, but the Chargers lost to the Broncos, 23-7. The Steelers will be playing to win on Sunday, so Roethlisberger won't be sitting on the sidelines in anticipation of a first-round playoff game.

12/8/2005

The Steelers have not disclosed whether Roethlisberger's thumb is broken, as has been rumored, but the quarterback has admitted that he'll likely need surgery to repair the damage at some point. However, he plans to wait until after the season, playing the rest of the campaign through considerable pain. Nursing the injury last week, he went 29 of 41 for a personal-best 386 yards and three touchdowns, but was picked off three times and sacked twice.

12/5/2005

Despite a very sore thumb on his throwing hand, Roethlisberger was in the Steelers' lineup for Sunday's matchup with the Cincinnati Bengals, as he had hoped. After falling behind early, Pittsburgh was forced to go to the air, resulting in a career-high 41 pass attempts for the second-year quarterback. He completed 29 for a personal-best 386 yards and three touchdowns, but was picked off three times and sacked twice.

12/4/2005

As anticipated, Roethlisberger will be under center when the Pittsburgh Steelers take the field against the Cincinnati Bengals on Sunday. The quarterback continues to be bothered by a very sore thumb on his right (throwing) hand, but he has been equipped with a protective device and will wear gloves as a precautionary measure.

12/1/2005

In addition to the knee problems that have plagued him the majority of the 2005 campaign, Roethlisberger now is nursing a sprained ankle and sore thumb on his right (throwing) hand, according to head coach Bill Cowher. The quarterback shows up as probable on this week's injury report, and he plans to be ready for Sunday's meeting with the Cincinnati Bengals.

11/29/2005

As anticipated, Roethlisberger was back under center for the Steelers in Monday night's meeting with the Indianapolis Colts after missing the team's previous three games while recovering from minor knee surgery. The quarterback completed 17 of his 26 pass attempts for 133 yards, two touchdowns and one interception. He also picked up 21 yards on three carries, but was sacked three times.

11/25/2005

Roethlisberger ran the Steelers' offense in practice Wednesday for the first time in nearly a month after missing three straight games with knee injuries. The Pittsburgh quarterback, who had right knee surgery on Nov. 3, said he expects to be ready to play in Monday night's game against the Indianapolis Colts. Roethlisberger has thrown only 44 passes in the last six weeks (two games).

11/22/2005

Roethlisberger plans to practice at full speed with the Steelers later this week, and if no problems are reported, he will be under center when the team takes the field against the Indianapolis Colts next Monday night, according to head coach Bill Cowher. The quarterback has missed the Steelers' last two games after undergoing a minor surgery to repair damage in his right knee.

11/17/2005

Roethlisberger needs a little more time to recover before reclaiming the Steelers' starting job, so Tommy Maddox will get the nod in Sunday's meeting with the Baltimore Ravens, according to head coach Bill Cowher. The second-year quarterback, who is recovering from minor knee surgery, should be available for backup duties, if needed. With Charlie Batch sidelined with a broken finger, receiver Antwaan Randle El will serve as the team's No. 3 emergency QB.

11/15/2005

Continuing to recover from minor arthroscopic surgery on his troublesome right knee, Roethlisberger made some throws without any major problems on Tuesday. The Steelers will evaluate the quarterback at practice on Wednesday to see if he will be ready to return to the starting lineup for Sunday's meeting with the Baltimore Ravens. At this point, he is considered questionable.

11/8/2005

Roethlisberger will be absent from the Steelers' starting lineup for the second consecutive week, as he continues to recover from arthroscopic surgery to remove a piece of torn cartilage from his ailing right knee. The quarterback, who went under the knife last Thursday, will be replaced under center by veteran Charlie Batch. The team is optimistic that Roethlisberger will be ready to return in Week 11.

11/3/2005

Roethlisberger underwent arthroscopic surgery early Thursday to remove a piece of torn cartilage from his ailing right knee. The Steelers' quarterback originally injured the knee in a game against the San Diego Chargers on October 10, then aggravated the problem when his shoe caught in the turf this past weekend. According to head coach Bill Cowher, Roethlisberger definitely will miss Sunday's meeting with Green Bay, but the team is optimistic he will return next week.

11/1/2005

An MRI on Roethlisberger's ailing left knee has revealed a strained posterior capsule, but no ligament or structural damage was found. According to Steelers head coach Bill Cowher, the quarterback will rest and receive treatment over the next couple of days before being re-evaluated later this week to determine his status and availability. He was able to remain in the lineup despite aggravating the injury in Monday night's win over the Baltimore Ravens.

10/19/2005

Roethlisberger will return to the starting lineup for this week's showdown with the Cincinnati Bengals.

10/17/2005

Roethlisberger made it through pregame warmups without any problems and was ready to play in Sunday's meeting with the Jacksonville Jaguars, but head coach Bill Cowher decided to hold him out and let his hyperextended and bruised knee heal another week. The second-year quarterback, who was replaced in the lineup by Tommy Maddox, plans to reclaim his starting role when the team takes the field against the Cincinnati Bengals this Sunday, barring any setbacks.

10/16/2005

Tommy Maddox will start for Pittsburgh against Jacksonville on Sunday, though Roethlisberger will be active. Charlie Batch will be the Steelers' backup option, and Roethlisberger is active in case of an emergency.

10/15/2005

Roethlisberger remains doubtful for Sunday's game against the Jacksonville Jaguars with a hyperextended left knee. The quarterback returned to practice Friday, but missed part of the workout. If he cannot go, Tommy Maddox will likely make his first start since the 2004 regular-season finale. Maddox had been expected to be sidelined several weeks with a calf injury suffered in practice, but has made a faster-than-expected recovery.

10/14/2005

Roethlisberger was still on crutches Wednesday, but after receiving some treatment on his hyperextended and bruised left knee, he was able to make some throws and do some very light jogging while the Steelers practiced on Thursday. The quarterback, who was injured in Monday night's victory over the San Diego Chargers, remains listed as doubtful, and it is unlikely that he will play in this weekend's matchup with the Jaguars, especially with the short week of workouts.

10/13/2005

Although he has yet to be ruled out officially, it is looking more and more likely that Roethlisberger will miss Sunday's meeting with the Jacksonville Jaguars, especially since the Steelers are working on a short week. The quarterback was forced to leave Monday night's win over the San Diego Chargers after hyperextending and bruising his left knee late in the game. The Steelers have listed him as doubtful on this week's injury report.

10/11/2005

Tests on Roethlisberger's injured left leg have revealed a hyperextended left knee and a bone bruise, according to Steelers head coach Bill Cowher. The ailments are much less severe than originally thought, and reportedly, there is a chance that the quarterback will be available for this weekend's battle against Jacksonville Jaguars. He will be re-evaluated later this week to get an update on his status.

9/22/2005

According to Steelers head coach Bill Cowher, Roethlisberger is nursing a sore back, and the quarterback has been listed as probable on the team's injury report this week. However, the ailment is considered minor, and Roethlisberger made it through Wednesday's practice without any problems.

9/19/2005

The bruised knee that limited Roethlisberger in practice last week did not appear to be a problem in Sunday's 27-7 victory over the Houston Texans, as he led the team to scores on its first four drives. The Steelers' quarterback finished the game 14 of 21 for 254 yards, two touchdowns and no interceptions.

9/18/2005

Roethlisberger tested his tender left knee early on Sunday, and he will start against the Houston Texans. The quarterback isn't fully healthy, and Steelers head coach Bill Cowher won't hesitate to turn to Tommy Maddox if Roethlisberger isn't up to the task.

9/17/2005

Roethlisberger remains questionable for the Steelers game on Sunday versus the Texans. Head coach Bill Cowher maintains that Roethlisberger will be a gametime decision due to a bruised bone in his left knee.

9/16/2005

Roethlisberger did not practice with the Steelers on Wednesday, and he saw limited reps on Thursday, prompting the team to downgrade him from probable to questionable on this week's injury report. The quarterback is being slowed by a bruised bone in his left knee, and according to head coach Bill Cowher, he will be evaluated on a daily basis.

9/15/2005

Roethlisberger is scheduled to work out with the Steelers on Thursday after missing Wednesday's practice with a bruised left knee. The ailment is considered minor, and the second-year quarterback is listed as probable on this week's injury report. He will be under center for Sunday's tussle with the Houston Texans.

9/12/2005

The Steelers' first-team offense failed to score a touchdown in the preseason, but they got back on track in Sunday's 2005 opener, led by Roethlisberger. The second-year quarterback, who improved to 14-0 as a starter in the regular season, finished with a perfect 158.3 passer rating, going 9 of 11 for 218 yards, two touchdowns and no interceptions.
