Kellen Winslow

6/16/2006

Winslow returned to the football field for the first time in almost two years Friday. The Cleveland Browns tight end had been out since a May 1, 2005 motorcycle accident ended his 2005 pro season before it began. The 2004 first round NFL Draft pick also missed most of his rookie season after breaking his right leg that September, requiring two surgeries.

According to team owner Randy Lerner, the Browns and Winslow are working out the details of an agreement that will have the team pay bonus money that currently is being withheld from the tight end because of the May 1 motorcycle accident that ended Winslow's 2005 season before it even began. Cleveland has been withholding payments because Winslow was in breach of contract when he rode the motorcycle. The agreement also would extend Winslow's current contract by one year.

Winslow underwent surgery on Tuesday to repair his right ACL. Winslow injured his knee in a motorcycle accident on May 1. According to Browns officials, his ACL was repaired successfully, but the second year tight end is likely to still miss the entire 2005 season. On Monday, Winslow also disclosed that he had lacerated his liver and kidney, bruised his right shoulder, and cracked a bone in his upper right leg during the crash.

Winslow is scheduled to undergo surgery on Tuesday to repair his right ACL, an injury he sustained in a May 1 motorcycle accident. Team officials expect the tight end to miss the 2005 campaign, but to be ready to go for 2006. According to the team, the only damage to the knee is the torn ACL.

During an apology on Thursday, Winslow confirmed that he will miss the entire 2005 campaign. Reportedly, the tight end has a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee, and he will be forced to undergo surgery. Winslow hurt the knee, banged up his shoulder and suffered unspecified internal injuries on May 1 when he was thrown from his motorcycle while trying to do tricks in a parking lot.

According to Lt. Ray Arcuri, police in the Cleveland suburb of Westlake will charge Winslow with disregarding safety in the motorcycle crash that reportedly will force the tight end to miss the entire 2005 season. The charge carries a maximum fine of $150 but no jail time. Though the team has yet to release an official confirmation, sources have said that Winslow tore his right ACL in the crash and will require season-ending surgery to repair the damage.

Although nothing has been made official by the Cleveland Browns at this point, an MRI on Winslow's injured right knee has revealed a torn anterior cruciate ligament, and the tight end will be forced to undergo surgery and miss the entire 2005 campaign. Winslow, who was hurt when he was thrown from a motorcycle earlier this month, also is recovering from shoulder and internal injuries.

More than a week after being thrown from the motorcycle that he was riding at about 35 mph in a parking lot, Winslow has been released from the hospital. The Browns' tight end left the facility on crutches and was not putting any weight on his right leg. Details of his ailments have been scarce, but reportedly, he damaged his right knee and suffered internal injuries.

Reportedly, Winslow has some minor internal injuries, as well as swelling in his right knee and shoulder, but the Browns are not saying how long he might be out of commission. The tight end was taken by ambulance to a Cleveland hospital after hitting a curb at about 35 mph and being thrown from the motorcycle he was riding in a parking lot on Sunday. He remained in the hospital on Tuesday and a timetable for his release has not been set.
