Lee Suggs
8/15/2006
Suggs failed a physical with the New York Jets on Tuesday after being traded by the Cleveland Browns for cornerback Derrick Strait on Monday. "We have a whole series of tests that we do, and we were very thorough with the process," Jets coach Eric Mangini said. "He just didn't pass those tests. ... Each team has a criteria they set up that they believe is what's important and what's needed to be competitive. I'm very comfortable with the tests we have set up."

The New York Jets acquired Suggs Monday in a trade with the Cleveland Browns for defensive back Derrick Strait. Suggs is coming off three injury plagued seasons with the Browns who selected him in the 2003 NFL draft. Shoulder, neck, toe, ankle and thumb injuries had sidelined him for several games in each of his first three pro seasons. He had 1,048 career rushing yards and four touchdowns in 25 games with the Browns.
11/18/2005
Suggs, who has been sidelined since late September with a broken right thumb, has been practicing without limitations this week, and he's expected to return to action in Sunday's matchup with the Miami Dolphins. The running back currently is not listed on the Browns' injury report.
11/10/2005
Suggs returned to practice with the Cleveland Browns on Wednesday, but he has yet to be cleared for game action, as head coach Romeo Crennel would like to see him get back more strength in his hand. The running back, who has been sidelined for more than a month with a broken right thumb, is listed as questionable for Sunday's meeting with the Pittsburgh Steelers. It's likely that he will be a game-time decision.
10/11/2005
Suggs underwent surgery to insert two screws in his right thumb, broken in Sunday's game against the Chicago Bears. He is expected to be out of action up to four weeks. This is just the latest in a string of injuries Suggs has suffered in his pro career. He missed the first two games this year with a sprained ankle, in addition to six games last year, and nine in 2003.
9/26/2005
As anticipated, Suggs made his 2005 debut in Sunday's matchup with the Indianapolis Colts after missing the Browns first two games of the season with a high ankle sprain. The running back saw limited duty, however, notching just two catches for seven yards and failing to record a carry.
9/25/2005
Suggs is active for today's game against at Indianapolis, and will serve as the backup to starting running back Reuben Droughns.
9/23/2005
Suggs has declared that his troublesome ankle has recovered, and he plans to play in Sunday's matchup with the Indianapolis Colts. The Browns' running back, who has been sidelined for more than a month with a high ankle sprain, reported no problems on Thursday after practicing with the team for the second consecutive day. He's listed as questionable on Cleveland's injury report.
9/14/2005
Suggs took part in portions of the Cleveland Browns' practice on Wednesday, and there is a chance he could return to action in Sunday's meeting with the Green Bay Packers. However, with Reuben Droughns and William Green currently splitting the carries, the Browns do not need to rush Suggs back into the lineup until he is at, or close to, 100 percent. He has missed nearly a month with a high ankle sprain and resumed jogging just last week.
9/11/2005
Nursing a high ankle sprain, Suggs officially has been declared inactive for Sunday's regular-season opener against the Cincinnati Bengals, a move that was expected. In the running back's absence, Reuben Droughns will get the starting nod in the Browns' backfield, with William Green serving as the primary backup.
9/7/2005
Suggs is still not back to full strength, as he continues to recover from the high ankle sprain he suffered three weeks ago. The Browns will list the running back as doubtful on this week's injury report, and it's almost a certainty that he will be held out of Sunday's regular-season opener against the Cincinnati Bengals.
8/21/2005
Reportedly, Suggs' sprained ankle is a bit more serious than originally thought, and the Browns' running back could be sidelined for the next two weeks. Suggs, who suffered the injury during practice on Wednesday, did not play in Saturday's preseason meeting with the Detroit Lions and he is highly unlikely for next weekend's meeting with the Carolina Panthers.
8/19/2005
Suggs was held out of Thursday's workouts after injuring his ankle during the Browns' practices the previous day. Although the ailment is not considered serious at this point, the Browns might choose to keep him out of Saturday's preseason contest against the Detroit Lions as a precautionary measure. Suggs has been listed as day-to-day.
