Jerome McDougle
10/17/2005
McDougle has suffered a setback in his recovery from a gunshot wound, and it now appears that he will not be able to return to the field this season. The Eagles' defensive end, who was shot in July, recently underwent an emergency surgery to correct an internal hernia due to adhesions and scar tissue from the previous procedure.

McDougle joined the Eagles on Monday to expand his rehab program, as he continues to recover from a gunshot wound to the abdomen. The team has placed the defensive end on the non-football injury list, meaning he will be forced to miss at least the first six weeks of the regular season.

McDougle is slated to join the Philadelphia Eagles on Monday as he continues to recover from a gunshot wound to the abdomen suffered in an apparent robbery attempt a month ago. According to head coach Andy Reid, the defensive end will expand his rehab program over the next several weeks, and there is a good chance that he could be back in the lineup around Week 6 of the 2005 campaign.

McDougle was discharged from a South Florida hospital on Tuesday, five days after he sustained a gunshot wound to the abdomen in an apparent robbery attempt. The Eagles' defensive end is expected to make a full recovery, and should resume his training in about six weeks. The team has not yet determined a time frame for McDougle's return to game action, however. Police already have made three arrests in connection to the shooting, while a fourth suspect remains at large.

McDougle will remain hospitalized for another 5-7 days after being shot in the stomach during an attempted robbery on Thursday. The defensive end is expected to miss at least four weeks of training camp while he recovers. McDougle underwent surgery on Friday morning and is listed in fair condition.

McDougle suffered a gunshot wound to the abdomen on Thursday night in Miami, the victim of an apparent robbery attempt. The Philadelphia defensive end was taken to Jackson Memorial Hospital's Ryder Trauma Center, where he underwent surgery. He currently is listed in good condition, according to an Eagles team spokesman. Police believe the suspected robbers were teens, reportedly looking to steal McDougle's car. McDougle played in 11 games last year and had two sacks.
