Byron Leftwich

1/8/2006

Leftwich struggled in his first game back since breaking his left ankle on Nov. 27, as the Jaguars' lost 28-3 to the Patriots in their Wild Card matchup Saturday. The Jaguars' quarterback, who had missed five games, was 18-for-31 with 179 yards, no touchdowns and one interception. He was replaced by David Garrard in the fourth quarter.

Leftwich has been taking the majority of the snaps with the Jaguars' first-team offense this week, and other than some general minor soreness in his leg, he's reported no problems. Barring any last-minute setbacks, the quarterback will be under center when the team takes the field for Saturday's playoff matchup with the New England Patriots. He has been sidelined since breaking a bone in his ankle against the Arizona Cardinals on Nov. 27.

Leftwich was in uniform for Sunday's regular-season finale against the Tennesee Titans, but not quite fully recovered from his broken ankle, he served as the Jaguars' No. 3 emergency quarterback. The veteran signal caller plans to expand his workouts over the next couple of days, and if no problems are reported, he will be in the starting lineup for Saturday's playoff matchup with the New England Patriots.

Leftwich returned to practice with the Jacksonville Jaguars on Wednesday and admitted being a bit rusty. Following Thursday's workout, the quarterback, who has missed more than a month with a broken left ankle, reported some minor soreness in his leg, but no serious problems. He split snaps with David Garrard, the Jags' starter in his absence, and remains listed as questionable for Sunday's regular-season finale against the Tennessee Titans.

Leftwich has been cleared to return to practice, and he will be on the field for the Jaguars' workout on Wednesday. The quarterback, who has been sidelined for the last month with a broken ankle, is listed as questionable for Sunday's regular-season finale against the Tennessee Titans, but there is a good chance he will see some playing time, according to head coach Jack Del Rio. A final decision will be made later this week.

Leftwich is no longer on crutches, and he will continue to expand his rehab over the next several days. The Jaguars' quarterback, who has been sidelined since breaking a bone in his ankle more than three weeks ago, is not expected to be available for Saturday's matchup with the Houston Texans, but according to head coach Jack Del Rio, there is a chance he could be ready for the final game of the regular season. David Garrard will get the nod again this weekend.

Leftwich is still on crutches, but the protective boot was removed from his injured left foot earlier this week. The Jaguars' quarterback, who has been sidelined since breaking a bone in his ankle more than two weeks ago, continues to show progress, and he is optimistic that he'll be back in the lineup before the end of the season. Initial estimates had Leftwich missing 4-6 weeks with the injury.

Leftwich injured his left ankle when he was sacked on the Jaguars' first offensive play in Sunday's game against the Arizona Cardinals. The quarterback remained in the lineup for four more plays before leaving for good. Tests have revealed a broken bone in the ankle, and Leftwich is expected to be sidelined for at least the next month. In his absence, David Garrard will take over as the team's top signal caller.

11/21/2005

Despite getting sacked a couple of times and losing a fumble, Leftwich had the best game of his NFL career, scoring four touchdowns in Sunday's 31-28 victory over the Tennessee Titans. The Jaguars' quarterback completed 22 of his 38 pass attempts for three TDs and no interceptions, while also rushing for nine yards and a score on six carries.

After missing Wednesday's workouts, Leftwich returned to the field on Thursday and took part in the majority of the drills with the Jacksonville Jaguars. The quarterback is recovering after straining his groin when he was bent back awkwardly while being tackled late in last weekend's loss to the Colts. Leftwich has been upgraded from questionable to probable, and he insists that he'll be available for Sunday's game against the Jets.

Recovering from a strained groin, Leftwich did not practice with the Jaguars on Wednesday, but was confident that he would be ready to go by Sunday's meeting with the New York Jets. The quarterback was injured when he was bent back awkwardly while being tackled in the fourth quarter of last weekend's loss to the Colts. He was able to return to the lineup, but was obviously hobbled by the ailment.

9/19/2005

On Monday, Leftwich revealed that the injury he suffered when bent back awkwardly in Sunday's loss the Indianapolis Colts has been diagnosed as a strained groin muscle. The Jaguars' quarterback likely will be limited in practice this week, but he said the ailment will not prevent him from being under center when the team takes the field against the New York Jets next Sunday.

Leftwich has been limited in training camp this year, due to lingering soreness in his right arm. The quarterback, who has been wearing a sleeve on the arm, worked out with the Jaguars during Monday's practice, but he was not allowed to throw as a precautionary measure. He will be evaluated on a daily basis.
