Carson Palmer

8/20/2006

Cincinnati Bengals coach Marvin Lewis declined to say Sunday whether Carson Palmer will play in Cincinnati's next preseason game, leaving the quarterback's status unclear for the season opener. Last week, the Bengals quarterback said he wasn't ready to get into a game and take his first hit. "He wants to make sure he can perform his job the way he knows how to perform it when he steps out onto the field," Lewis said.

The Cincinnati Enquirer reported that Palmer will not play for the Bengals in their preseason game against the Buffalo Bills on Friday. The quarterback has stated that he will not appear in a game until he is 100% recovered from his left knee surger. He tore his ACL and dislocated his knee cap on the first play of a 31-17 playoff loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers on Jan. 8.

Palmer feels he will be ready by the Cincinnati Bengals' third preseason game.

8/5/2006

Palmer went 4-for-9 for 57 yards and a touchdown pass in the Cincinnati Bengals scrimmage Friday. It was his first action under game conditions since the quarterback tore up his left knee in the playoffs. Palmer needed reconstructive surgery after tearing his ACL and dislocating his knee cap in a Jan. 28 game against the Pittsburgh Steelers.

6/16/2006

Palmer was cleared to throw to receivers during 7-on-7 drills on Thursday. The drill has defensive backs cover receivers, but no one rushes the passer. The Cincinnati Bengals quarterback also briefly ran the offense at the end of practice. "Now we've got a couple of months," Palmer said. "I wish we had a couple of more months for me personally. But when you look at the flip side, if I am ready to play that day, that game can't come quickly enough."

3/23/2006

Palmer spoke to reporters Wednesday for the first time since his knee surgery. He said: "I wish I knew when I was coming back. The last thing I need to do is push anything too early and push back the date that I can really step on the field 100 percent."

According to the doctor that performed the surgery to repair the torn ligaments in Palmer's knee, the injury was "devastating and potentially career ending." However, everything went well in the procedure, and he is confident that the Cincinnati quarterback will make a full recovery. The Bengals currently do not have an exact timetable for Palmer's return, but they are optimisitic that he will be ready for the start of the 2006 campaign.

According to his surgeon, Palmer has multiple ligament tears, including his ACL and MCL, and basically a dislocation of his left knee. As a result, the operation to repair the damage is more complicated and the Bengals' quarterback will need more time to recover from the procedure. He now is expected to be sidelined for at least 8-to-9 months, putting his availability for the start of the 2006 campaign highly in question.

Further tests have revealed that Palmer not only ruputred the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee, but he has a torn medial collateral ligament as well. According to doctors, both are complete, clean tears, which in most cases means a shorter recovery time. The Bengals' quarterback, who suffered the injury on the team's second offensive play in Sunday's playoff loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers, is expected to undergo surgery later this week.

1/8/2006

Palmer tore the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee in the first quarter of Sunday's playoff game against Pittsburgh. The Bengals' quarterback suffered the injury on his first pass of the game when he was tackled low. Palmer signed a six-year contract extension through 2014 a little over a week ago.

12/29/2005

The Bengals have not yet decided if Palmer will start this Sunday at Kansas City, but the team plans on having him under center for years to come. Cincinnati gave Palmer a six-year contract extension through 2014 on Thursday. Financial terms have not been disclosed.

12/27/2005

The Cincinnati Bengals likely will wait until later in the week to decide whether Palmer will get the starting nod in Sunday's regular-season finale against the Kansas City Chiefs. The quarterback most certainly will be limited over the next couple of days, primarily as a precautionary measure, after suffering a slight groin strain in the closing minutes of last weekend's loss to the Buffalo Bills.

12/19/2005

Palmer completed 28 of 39 passes for 274 yards, three touchdowns and two interceptions in Sunday's 41-17 win over the Lions. The Bengals' quarterback has thrown 30 touchdown passes this season, breaking Ken Anderson's team record (29) set in 1981. He has led the Bengals to 11 wins and their first division title since 1990.

12/12/2005

Palmer posted a season-low 53.5 passer rating in Sunday's meeting with the Cleveland Browns, completing 13 of his 27 attempts for a career-worst 93 yards, one touchdown and one interception. Before the rough outing, the Bengals' quarterback had recorded a passer rating of 100 or better in 14 of 15 games dating back to last season.

12/5/2005

Palmer posted his fifth three-touchdown game of the season, including his second straight, leading the Bengals to a 38-31 victory over the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday. The quarterback finished the game with a 101.5 passer rating, going 22 of 38 for 227 yards and no interceptions.

11/28/2005

Palmer took advantage of a banged-up Ravens defense, going 22 of 30 for 302 yards, three touchdowns and one interception in Sunday's 42-29 victory over Baltimore. Over his last four games, the Bengals' quarterback has tossed eight TDs with just three picks.

11/21/2005

Palmer topped the 300-yard mark for the second time this season, but his performance wasn't quite enough, as the Bengals lost to the undefeated Indianapolis Colts on Sunday, 45-37. The quarterback finished the game 25 of 38 for 335 yards, two touchdowns and one interception.

10/31/2005

After posting a disappointing 53.8 passer rating last week, Palmer got back on track in Sunday's victory over the Green Bay Packers, going 22 of 34 for 237 yards, three touchdowns and an interception. The Bengals' quarterback has a passer rating of 100 or better in all but one game this season.

10/17/2005

Palmer was nearly perfect in Sunday's win over the Tennessee Titans, posting just six incomplete passes on the day. The Bengals' quarterback finished the game 27 of 33 for 272 yards, two touchdowns and no interceptions. His passer rating has been 100 or better in each of Cincinnati's six contests this season.

9/19/2005

Palmer continues to show an increased comfort level in the Bengals' offensive attack. The third-year quarterback, who was the top overall pick in the 2003 NFL Draft, picked apart the Vikings' defense on Sunday, going 27 of 40 for 337 yards, three touchdowns and one interception. It was the third 300-yard performance of his pro career.

9/12/2005

Palmer turned in one of the better performances of his young NFL career, posting a 107.5 passer rating in Sunday's season-opening win over the Cleveland Browns. The Bengals' quarterback, who was the top overall pick in the 2003 NFL Draft, went 26 of 34 for 280 yards, two touchdowns and an interception.
