11/3/2005

Chatman has been released by the New Orleans Saints. The running back did not record a carry with the Saints after being acquired in a trade from the Miami Dolphins last month.

The Miami Dolphins have traded Chatman to the New Orleans Saints in exchange for a future conditional draft pick. The running back, who was inactive for all five of the Dolphins' games this season, will supply the Saints with some depth following the season-ending knee injury to starting tailback Deuce McAllister. He rushed for 392 yards and three touchdowns on 65 carries in 15 games with the Chargers last season.

The Miami Dolphins have signed Chatman, who was released by San Diego six weeks ago. The primary backup to LaDainian Tomlinson in 2004, Chatman rushed for 392 yards and three touchdowns. He spent three years with the Chargers.

The Chargers released Chatman on Tuesday after the three-year veteran failed a team physical. San Diego team officials also reportedly were not happy with his offseason conditioning. The primary backup to LaDainian Tomlinson last season, Chatman was second on the team with 392 yards rushing and three rushing touchdowns in 2004.
