Chester Taylor

3/12/2006

The Minnesota Vikings made two moves that they hope will boost their running game. They signed former Baltimore Ravens running back Chester Taylor to a four-year deal worth $14.1 million, including a guaranteed $5.6 million. The Vikings also signed Seattle Seahawks' All-Pro guard Steve Hutchinson to an offer sheet worth $49 million over seven years. This might be too pricey for the Seahawks to match, considering Hutchinson's cap number will be $13 million for 2006.

Taylor continues to be listed as questionable on the Baltimore Ravens' injury report, but after making it through Friday's practice unscathed, he is expected to see some action in Sunday's tussle with the Houston Texans. Nursing a sore ankle, the running back was unavailable for last weekend's loss to the Cincinnati Bengals.

According to Baltimore Ravens head coach Brian Billick, the team is optimistic that Taylor will be ready for Sunday's matchup with the Houston Texans. The tailback, who missed last week's loss to the Cincinnati Bengals with an ankle injury, will test things out at practice over the next couple of days before a final decision is made. At this point, he has been listed as questionable.

CBS is reporting that Taylor will be out with an ankle injury on Sunday. The Baltimore running back will sit and Jamal Lewis will be in line for most of the carries when the Ravens face the Bengals in Cincinnati. In eight games this season, Taylor has run for 300 yards on 67 carries. His only touchdown was a reception. He has 30 catches for 207 yards.

Due to Jamal Lewis' continued struggles, Taylor is expected to get more carries going forward, according to Ravens head coach Brian Billick. Serving as Lewis' backup this season, Taylor has rushed for 300 yards on 67 carries, while also hauling in 30 passes for 207 yards and a touchdown.

After missing practice because of personal reasons last week, Taylor was limited to special-teams duties in Sunday's loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars. The running back is slated to resume his role as the Ravens' third-down back this weekend.
