Najeh Davenport

6/18/2006

The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reported that Davenport will not participate in practice with the Packers until training camp begins in July. The running back is coming off surgery on his broken right ankle, which he injured on Oct. 9 in a 52-3 win over the New Orleans Saints.

Davenport has agreed in principle to re-sign with the Packers, The Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel reports.

As Davenport underwent surgery on his broken right ankle, the Packers placed him on injured reserve, ending his season. He finishes the year with 105 yards on 30 carries, and two touchdowns.

Tests have revealed that Davenport has a broken right ankle, an injury suffered just prior to halftime in Sunday's blowout victory over the New Orleans Saints. The Packers' running back, who was filling in for regular starter Ahman Green, had to be carted off the field before being replaced by Tony Fisher. According to head coach Mike Sherman, the injury likely will force Davenport to miss the rest of the 2005 campaign.

With Ahman Green inactive because of a thigh/knee injury, Davenport got the starting nod in Sunday's game against the New Orleans Saints. However, the running back failed to make it past halftime, being forced to leave late in second quarter with a right ankle injury. He was taken off the field on a cart and failed to return to the Packers' lineup. Tony Fisher took over as the team's primary tailback in Davenport's absence.

Davenport will replace the injured Ahman Green in the starting lineup for Sunday's game against the New Orleans Saints. This will be just Davenport's second career start in his NFL career.

Nursing some minor discomfort in his hamstring, Davenport was held out of Thursday's practice as a precautionary measure. The Packers have added the running back to their injury report as probable, but they fully expect him to be ready for Monday night's matchup with the Carolina Panthers.

Davenport suffered an ankle injury during Friday's scrimmage against the Buffalo Bills. The severity of the injury was not immediately known.
