Randy McMichael
10/7/2005
McMichael has signed a four-year contract extension that will keep him with the Miami Dolphins through the 2009 campaign. The new deal reportedly is worth about $18 million, making him the fifth-highest paid tight end in the NFL, trailing only Kansas City's Tony Gonzalez, Baltimore's Todd Heap, Atlanta's Alge Crumpler and San Diego's Antonio Gates.

McMichael has been sentenced to three months probation after pleading guilty to misdemeanor criminal trespass. The charge stems from an incident in July when the Dolphins' tight end reportedly gave his wife a bloody nose in an argument. He originally faced public drunkenness and family violence battery as well, but those two charges were dropped as part of a plea bargain.

McMichael was charged with simple battery and criminal trespass after reportedly giving his wife a bloody nose during a domestic dispute early Saturday morning. The Dolphins' tight end, who was released on $2,200 bond, was accused of hitting his wife last summer as well, but prosecutors decided not to file charges.
