Byron Leftwich has declared himself ready to return from a broken ankle, and he is expected to be under center when the Jaguars' take the field in Saturday's playoff matchup with the New England Patriots. As a result, Garrard will drop back to his normal role as the team's top backup quarterback.

Making his second consecutive start in place of the injured Byron Leftwich, Garrard passed for a career-high 250 yards in Sunday's loss to the Indianapolis Colts, going 26 of 35 for a touchdown and no interceptions. The quarterback also displayed his mobility, rushing for 19 yards and a score on five carries.

Garrard was forced into duty after regular starter Byron Leftwich was forced to leave Sunday's battle against the Arizona Cardinals with a broken left ankle. The Jaguars' backup quarterback went 12 of 26 for 115 yards with no touchdowns or interceptions, while also rushing for 61 yards and a TD on six carries. With Leftwich sidelined for the next 4-6 weeks, Garrard will take over as the team's top signal caller.

Garrard has signed a three-year, $6.25 million contract extension with the Jacksonville Jaguars, including a $2 million signing bonus. The reserve quarterback, who is slated to earn about $450,000 in 2005, is now inked through the 2008 campaign. He appeared in four games last season, going 38 of 72 for 374 yards, two touchdowns and one interception. He also rushed for 76 yards and a TD on 12 carries.
