Brian Westbrook

8/17/2006

The Philadelphia Inquirer reported that Westbrook will not play for the Eagles in their next two preseason games due to a sprained left foot. They face the Baltimore Raves on Thursday's and the Pittsburgh Steelers on Aug. 25.

An MRI on Westbrook's ailing foot has revealed a Lis Franc injury, and he will be forced to miss the rest of the 2005 campaign. The running back, who suffered the injury in Monday night's loss to the Seattle Seahawks, is expected to be placed on injured reserve in the near future. Rookie Ryan Moats, Lamar Gordon and Reno Mahe will split carries for the Eagles going forward.

On a season-high 21 carries, Westbrook topped the century mark for the first time in 11 games this year, rushing for 117 yards and a touchdown in Sunday's victory over the Green Bay Packers. The Eagles' running back also hauled in four passes for 11 yards, ironically his fewest receiving yards of the 2005 campaign.

Westbrook has re-signed with the Philadelphia Eagles, agreeing to a five-year contract extension. Officially financial terms were not released, but reportedly, the new deal is worth around $25 million, including a signing bonus between $9-10 million.

Not only did Westbrook handle the majority of the Eagles' running game in Sunday's 23-20 victory over the Oakland Raiders, he was one of Donovan McNabb's favorite targets in the passing game as well. The tailback picked up 68 yards and scored a touchdown on 13 carries, and also added six catches for a team-high 140 yards and a score.

According to Eagles head coach Andy Reid, Westbrook has some minor soreness just above his knee, after taking a shot to his leg in last weekend's victory over the San Francisco 49ers. Giving the running back a chance to rest the leg and be ready for Sunday's meeting with the Oakland Raiders, the team held Westbrook out of Friday's practice as a precautionary measure. He will be in the starting lineup this weekend.

Feeling that he has not yet received an acceptable offer, Westbrook has cut off contract talks with the Philadelphia Eagles. After holding out the first week of training camp, the running back agreed to a one-year, $1.43 tender offer from the team and planned to continue to negotiate a long-term deal. If the two sides cannot come to an agreement, Westbrook will become an unrestricted free agent at the end of the 2005 campaign.

After missing the first week of the Eagles' preseason workouts because of a holdout, Westbrook reported to training camp Sunday night and was with the team for practice Monday morning. The running back signed a one-year, $1.43 million tender offer for the 2005 campaign and is scheduled to become an unrestricted free agent at the end of the season. He still hopes to come to terms on a multiyear deal.

Westbrook did not report to the opening of Eagles training camp on Monday, officially becoming a holdout despite the fact that the running back signed a one-year, $1.43 million tender offer for the 2005 campaign. He is scheduled to become an unrestricted free agent at the end of the season. Westbrook has been looking for a multiyear deal, and apparently is willing to risk fines as well as his position on the depth chart to get his point across.

Westbrook is expected to take part in the Eagles' seven-day passing camp this week after signing the team's one-year, $1.43 million contract tender. The running back is still hoping to reach a long-term deal before the start of the regular season. If the Eagles don't lock up Westbrook with a multiyear contract, he will be eligible to become an unrestricted free agent following the 2005 campaign.

Westbrook is still in negotiations with the Philadelphia Eagles on a long-term agreement, but reportedly, if a deal is not reached by mid-June, the running back will sign the one-year, $1.43 million tender offer the team gave him earlier this year. According to his agent, Westbrook will not take part in the Eagles' upcoming minicamps, but he has every intention of showing up for training camp later this summer.
