Josh McCown

12/20/2005

McCown will serve as the Cardinals' starter the rest of the season, replacing veteran Kurt Warner, who will miss the team's final two games with a torn knee ligament. The fourth-year quarterback has received the nod in four games already this season, filling in when Warner went down with a groin injury.

According to head coach Dennis Green, the Cardinals will stick with Kurt Warner as their starting quarterback, even though he is winless in four starts at the top signal caller. As a result, McCown will remain in the backup role for the foreseeable future. McCown took over as the team's starter after Warner went down with a groin injury in Week 3, and he led Arizona to a 2-2 record in four starts.

McCown will return to the sidelines this weekend, as head coach Dennis Green has named veteran Kurt Warner as the Cardinals' starting quarterback for Sunday's meeting with the Seattle Seahawks. McCown took over as the team's top signal caller after Warner went down with a groin injury in Week 3, and he led Arizona to a 2-2 record in four starts. Warner has since recovered from the injury.

10/27/2005

As anticipated, Cardinals head coach Dennis Green has officially named McCown as his starter for Sunday's game against the Dallas Cowboys. The fourth-year quarterback took over the top spot on the depth chart when veteran Kurt Warner went down with a groin injury in Week 3, and he has led Arizona to a 2-1 record in their last three games.

10/24/2005

Waiting until just before game time to name his starter, Cardinals head coach Dennis Green gave McCown the nod in Sunday's meeting with the Tennessee Titans, choosing him over veteran Kurt Warner, who has recovered from a groin injury. McCown completed just 12 of his 28 pass attempts for 140 yards, one touchdown and an interceptions, but it was just enough, as Arizona claimed the victory, 20-10.

10/20/2005

McCown and Kurt Warner have been splitting snaps with the Cardinals' first-team offense in practice this week, but the team has not indicated which quarterback will get the starting nod in Sunday's meeting with the Tennessee Titans. According to head coach Dennis Green, a decision has been made, but won't be announced officially until just prior to kickoff this weekend.

10/10/2005

Just one week after posting a career high for passing yardage (385), McCown topped the mark in Sunday's loss to the Carolina Panthers, going 29 of 46 for 394 yards and two touchdowns. However, the quarterback's stat line was marred by three interceptions, which resulted in a 77.6 passer rating. McCown was making his second consecutive start in place of Kurt Warner, who is nursing a groin injury.

10/3/2005

Filling in for the injured Kurt Warner, who could miss up to a month with a strained groin, McCown led the Cardinals to a 31-14 victory over the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday in Mexico City. The 26-year-old quarterback went 32 of 46 and finished with a career-high 385 yards, two touchdowns and no interceptions. He was sacked three times and lost a fumble.

With regular starter Kurt Warner expected to miss up to a month with a strained groin, the Arizona Cardinals will give McCown the nod in Sunday night's meeting with the San Francisco 49ers in Mexico City. The backup quarterback has appeared in two of the team's three games this season, going 15 of 33 for 149 yards, two interceptions and no touchdowns. He's also lost a fumble.

5/25/2005

McCown officially lost his starting job on Wednesday when Arizona head coach Dennis Green announced that Kurt Warner will handle the No. 1 quarterback duties for the team in 2005. The Cardinals signed Warner, a two-time league MVP, in March. In 13 starts last season, McCown led Arizona to a 6-7 record, while throwing just 11 touchdown passes and completing just 57.3 percent of his attempts.
