Will Witherspoon
3/12/2006
The new-look Rams defense should have at least three different starters this season. The Rams signed former Carolina Panthers linebacker Will Witherspoon, 25, to a six-year deal worth $33 million, including $15 million in guarantees.

After getting a second opinion on his ailing right knee, Witherspoon was cleared to return to practice with the Carolina Panthers on Thursday. The linebacker, who missed last week's matchup with the Miami Dolphins, reported no major problems following the workout and seemed optimistic that he would be ready for this weekend's action. Officially, he is listed as questionable.

Witherspoon has re-signed with the Carolina Panthers, agreeing to a one-year, $1.43 million contract. The linebacker, who had been a restricted free agent, has started every one of the Panthers' games over the past two seasons. He finished the 2004 campaign with 103 tackles, four interceptions and three sacks -- all career highs.
