Saleem Rasheed

10/20/2005

Tests have revealed that Rasheed has damage to the meniscus in his knee, and he was forced to undergo surgery earlier this week. The 49ers' linebacker, who suffered the injury at practice on Monday, is expected to be sidelined for the next 3-5 weeks, according to head coach Mike Nolan. Rasheed has eight tackles in five games this season.

Rasheed was scheduled to undergo an MRI after injuring his knee during the 49ers' practice on Monday. At this point, the team is optimistic that the linebacker will not miss any time, but they will wait until the test results are known before making a decision on his availability. If cleared to play, Rasheed is slated to get the starting nod this weekend, filling in for the injured Jeff Ulbrich.

Rasheed has re-signed with the San Francisco 49ers, agreeing to a one-year contract. The reserve linebacker has seen limited playing time since being selected in the third round of the 2002 NFL Draft. In 14 games last season, including two starts, he had 18 tackles and a forced fumble.
