Antonio Bryant

8/12/2006

Bryant had five receptions for 54 yards in his debut with the San Francisco 49ers in a preseason game on Friday.

Bryant is joining his third team in five career seasons after signing a four-year deal worth $15 million that will include $5 million in bonuses. The 49ers just dealt Brandon Lloyd to the Redskins for two draft picks, so Bryant could have a significant impact.

Bryant is 114 yards shy of posting 1,000 receiving yards for the first time in four NFL seasons. The Cleveland receiver has steadily improved his receiving yards and reception totals as a pro. After recording 812 receiving yards for Dallas and Cleveland in 2004, Bryant must surpass 100 receiving yards for the first time all season against the Ravens Sunday to reach the 1,000-yard plateau.

After suffering through two poor weeks, Bryant will remain the Browns' starting wideout. A series of dropped passes during crucial moments of the past few games put the receiver's starting job at risk, but head coach Romeo Crennel has given him the benefit of the doubt and will let Bryant keep his spot for at least one more week.

Bryant had his best game of the 2005 campaign, hauling in six passes for a season-high 83 yards and two touchdowns in Sunday's ugly 20-10 victory over the Chicago Bears. The receiver has been Trent Dilfer's primary target in the Browns' passing attack this year, notching 21 catches for 255 yards and two scores.
