Clinton Portis

8/14/2006

Portis underwent an MRI exam on his partially dislocated left shoulder Monday to help determine the extent of the damage. It is certain the Washington Redskins running back will not play again in the preseason though the team hopes he will be ready to return for the regular season opener Sept. 11 against the Minnesota Vikings.

Portis partially dislocated his left shoulder in Washington's preseason game against Cincinnati on Sunday. The Redskins' running back sustained the injury during the team's opening series and underwent an MRI test, which revealed the damage.

1/9/2006

Portis was a bit limited in Saturday's playoff victory over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, reportedly due to some nerve damage and overall soreness in his shoulders. The running back, who split time with backup Ladell Betts, likely will have his practice time curbed this week as a precautionary measure, but he'll be in the starting lineup for next weekend's postseason battle with the Seattle Seahawks, according to team trainer Bubba Tyer.

1/3/2006

Leading the Washington Redskins to five consecutive victories to close out the season, Portis topped the century mark for the fifth straight time in Sunday's win over the Philadelphia Eagles, rushing for 112 yards and two touchdowns on 27 carries. With the performance, the running back broke the franchise's single-season rushing mark, formerly held by Stephen Davis.

12/12/2005

Portis notched his sixth 100-yard game of the 2005 campaign, rushing for 105 yards and a touchdown on 26 carries in Sunday's victory over the Arizona Cardinals. The Redskins' running back is averaging 112.8 yards per game with four TDs over his last five contests.

12/5/2005

Portis rushed 27 times for 136 yards and two touchdowns in Sunday's win at St. Louis. In the process, he had a 47-yard run, his longest of the season. The Redskins' running back also topped 1,000 rushing yards for the fourth time in four NFL seasons.

11/25/2005

Portis sat out Thursday's practice with an undisclosed illness and is probable for Sunday's game, the Redskins web site reported. The Redskins' running back has rushed for 856 yards and five TDs in 10 games this season.

11/14/2005

Portis rushed for a season-high 144 yards and a touchdown on 23 carries in Sunday's disappointing 36-35 loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The Redskins' running back, who also had nine yards on two receptions, has topped the century mark four times this season.

10/24/2005

Portis ended his scoreless season in a big way Sunday by scoring his first three touchdowns of the 2005 campaign in a victory over the San Francisco 49ers. In addition to the scores, the Redskins' running back had 101 yards rushing on 19 carries and one catch for 12 yards.

10/21/2005

Portis practiced on Friday, the first time this week he has been able to do so. He is listed as probable for Sunday's tilt against the San Francisco 49ers.

10/17/2005

In addition to the calf muscle he strained last week, Portis suffered a bruised shin on Sunday as well, and reportedly was limping noticeably following Sunday's loss to the Kansas City Chiefs. The running back likely will be limited in practice this week as a precautionary measure, but he plans to be ready for the Redskins' next contest.

10/16/2005

As anticipated, Portis returned to practice Friday. Washington head coach Joe Gibbs said his primary running back "looked good and he's ready to go." Portis has rushed for 366 yards on 83 carries without scoring a touchdown this year.

10/14/2005

Portis missed practice on Wednesday and Thursday because of a sore calf muscle, but he plans to return to the field and work out with the Redskins on Friday. The running back currently is listed as probable for Sunday's matchup with the Kansas City Chiefs, and as long as no major problems are reported over the next couple of days, he will be in the starting lineup.

10/10/2005

Portis still has yet to score a touchdown in 2005, but he posted his second 100-yard game of the campaign, rushing for 103 yards on 20 carries in Sunday's two-point loss to the Denver Broncos. The Redskins' running back also added a pair of receptions for 27 yards.

9/12/2005

Facing a historically solid Bears run defense, Portis rumbled for 121 yards on 21 carries -- a 5.8-yard average -- in Sunday's season opener against the Chicago Bears. The Redskins are hoping the performance is a sign of things to come this season, as the running back averaged a career-low 3.8 yards per carry last year -- his first campaign in Washington.

8/23/2005

After being limited last week by bursitis in his elbow, Portis was back at practice with the Washington Redskins on Monday. According to head coach Joe Gibbs, the running back is expected to be in the starting lineup for Friday's exhibition game against the Pittsburgh Steelers.

8/20/2005

Portis sat out Friday's preseason game against the Cincinnati Bengals with a sore elbow. His status for the Redskins' game against the Pittsburgh Steelers next weekend has yet to be determined.

8/18/2005

Portis is battling lingering bursitis in his elbow, and the Redskins have been limiting his involvement at practice as a precautionary measure. According to head coach Joe Gibbs, the minor ailment is easily aggravated, so the running back did not take part in contact drills on Wednesday. He is listed as day-to-day. In 15 games last season -- his first in Washington -- Portis rushed for 1,315 yards and five touchdowns on 343 carries.
