Jabar Gaffney

7/28/2006

Gaffney was arrested and charged with unlawful possession of a handgun following a traffic stop last month, county prosecutors said Friday. Gaffney had a permit to carry the weapon in Texas, but not in New Jersey, Camden County prosecutors said. The charge carries a maximum five-year sentence but most first-time offenders get no jail time.

Gaffney has been limited in practice the past couple of days, due to the ankle injury he's been battling in recent weeks. The Texans' receiver, who has 49 catches for 445 yards and two touchdowns in 13 games this season, currently is listed as probable and should be ready for Sunday's meeting with the Arizona Cardinals.

Gaffney's sore ankle prevented him from practicing with the Houston Texans on Wednesday, but he was back on the field on Thursday and took part in the majority of the workout. Currently, the receiver is listed as questionable for Sunday's tussle with the Tennessee Titans.

After missing time in training camp with a staph infection in his groin, as well as recovering from offseason shoulder surgery, Gaffney returned to the Texans' starting lineup in last weekend's loss to the Cincinnati Bengals. The receiver took advantage of the added playing time, hauling in six passes for 88 yards.

After missing some time earlier this week due to another bout with a staph infection in his groin, Gaffney returned to practice with the Houston Texans on Thursday and is expected to be ready for Sunday's season opener against the Buffalo Bills. Officially, he is listed as probable. The receiver missed the majority of training camp with the same ailment, as well as recovering from offseason shoulder surgery.

9/8/2005

Due to another bout with a staph infection in his groin, Gaffney has been unable to practice with the Houston Texans this week, and his availability for Sunday's regular-season opener against the Buffalo Bills currently is up in the air. The receiver missed the majority of training camp with the same ailment, as well as recovering from offseason shoulder surgery.

9/1/2005

After missing the Texans' first three exhibition games while recovering from offseason shoulder surgery and a staph infection in his groin, Gaffney is slated to make his preseason debut in Thursday's meeting with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. If healthy, the receiver is expected to be in Houston's starting lineup this season, lining up opposite Andre Johnson.

8/24/2005

Gaffney has yet to take part in any contact drills with the Houston Texans, as he continues to recover from offseason shoulder surgery and a staph infection in his groin. However, the receiver is nearing a return and he could see action in the team's preseason finale next week. According to head coach Dom Capers, Gaffney is highly doubtful for this weekend's exhibition meeting with the Dallas Cowboys.

8/17/2005

According to Texans head coach Dom Capers, Gaffney has recovered from offseason shoulder surgery, but he continues to be held out of the team's workouts due to a staph infection in his groin. The receiver will continue to receive medication for the ailment, and barring any setbacks, he should be available for Houston's last two exhibition contests. For now, he has been listed as day-to-day, but expect him to be ready for the start of the regular season.

8/16/2005

Gaffney continues to be on schedule in his recovery from offseason shoulder surgery, but the Houston Texans are bringing him along slowly and haven't allowed him to take part in any contract drills so far in camp. As a result, the receiver is not expected to play in Saturday's preseason matchup with the Oakland Raiders. However, he plans to be ready for the start of the regular season, barring any setbacks.

6/14/2005

Gaffney did not participate in any of Monday's minicamp workouts, as the Houston wide receiver continues to recover from offseason shoulder surgery. He is not expected to be ready by the beginning of training camp, and likely won't start contact drills until sometime in August. Gaffney has not missed a game for the Texans since the franchise selected him with the first pick in the second round of the 2002 draft. He has 116 catches for 1,517 yards and five receiving TDs.
