Dwight Freeney

8/8/2006

Freeney underwent an MRI on his shoulder Tuesday that came back "fine" according to Colts head coach Tony Dungy. The defensive end suffered a strained shoulder due to accumulation rather than a direct play. "It's something that's been bothering him, and it's our sense that he will be fine," Dungy said. "We just want to get it checked out. If it was a regular-season game, I'm sure he'd be out here practicing and playing."

The Indianapolis Star reported Freeney didn't practice Thursday because of a mild hamstring injury. Indianapolis Colts coach Tony Dungy said he expected his Pro Bowl defensive end to be in good shape by the weekend.

Freeney returned to practice Saturday after sitting out the previous day's workout with tightness in his rib cage. The defensive end is expected to be ready for Monday night's game against the St. Louis Rams.

Freeney had some problems loosening up on Thursday and was forced to leave the Colts' practice early as a precautionary measure. The defensive end's ailment is not considered serious at this point, and he's fully expected to be in the starting lineup for the team's Monday night matchup with the St. Louis Rams, according to head coach Tony Dungy.

Freeney was in the Browns' backfield quite often in Sunday's 13-6 victory over Cleveland, notching three sacks on the day. The Colts' defensive lineman, who led the NFL with 16 sacks last season, has posted three or more sacks in a game four times in his career.

As a precautionary measure, Freeney was held out of practice on Thursday, due to some minor soreness in his foot, according to Colts head coach Tony Dungy. The All-Pro defensive end missed some time early in training camp coming back from offseason shoulder surgery, but appears fully recovered from the procedure. He does not appear on the Colts' injury list this week.

Although he already has been ruled out of Saturday's exhibition battle with the Chicago Bears, Freeney is optimistic that he will be cleared to return to practice with the Indianapolis Colts within the next few days. The defensive end has been limited to individual work, as he continues to recover from offseason shoulder surgery. He remains on schedule and should be ready for the start of the regular season.

Although he might not be at full strength the first week or two of training camp, Freeney plans to be ready for the start of the 2005 regular season. The Colts' defensive end is on schedule in his recovery from offseason shoulder surgery. Freeney set a franchise record with 16 sacks in 2004, his third straight season with double-digit sacks.

Freeney, who had shoulder surgery a couple of weeks ago, may not be ready to go when the Indianapolis Colts open training camp in July. Freeney set a franchise record with 16 sacks in 2004, his third straight season with double-digit sacks.
