Michael Lewis

New Orleans signed Lewis to a three-year contract on Sunday. The special teams star missed most of 2005 after suffering a season-ending knee injury in Week 2. Lewis is the Saints' all-time leader in punt return yardage and kickoff return yardage and made the Pro Bowl in 2002 as a returner.

As feared, Lewis has significant damage in his left knee, including at least two torn ligaments. The Saints' receiver, who suffered the injury while returning a kickoff in the fourth quarter of Monday night's loss to the New York Giants, will undergo surgery next week and miss the rest of the 2005 campaign. He has been placed on injured reserve.

The Saints fear that Lewis has a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee, an injury suffered while returning a kickoff in the fourth quarter of Monday night's loss to the New York Giants. The receiver will undergo an MRI on Tuesday to determine the exact extent of the injury.
