Derrick Blaylock
12/20/2005
Blaylock probably could have seen some time in Sunday's loss to the Miami Dolphins, but the Jets decided to give him one more week to recover from the broken foot that has kept him off the field since Week 5. According to head coach Herman Edwards, the veteran running back should be available for duty in Monday night's tussle with the New England Patriots, barring any last-minute setbacks.

Blaylock, who has been sidelined since Week 5 with a broken foot, could return to action as early as Sunday's matchup with the Miami Dolphins. The veteran running back was able to work out with the Jets on Thursday, but remains listed as questionable on this week's injury report. He'll likely be a game-time decision.

After indicating the previous day that Blaylock would miss the rest of the season with a broken bone in his foot, Jets head coach Herman Edwards changed his opinion on Monday and said the team expects the running back to return in December. Blaylock, who went down in the fourth quarter of Sunday's win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, will undergo surgery on Wednesday, and he should be back in action within 6-8 weeks, according to Edwards.

Blaylock suffered a broken foot in Sunday's win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and according to Jets coach Herman Edwards, the injury likely will prevent the running back from returning to action this season. In five games to date, Blaylock has rushed for 19 yards on 10 carries, while also hauling in two passes for 13 yards.
