Sage Rosenfels

3/12/2006

Sage Rosenfels has agreed to a four-year deal worth $7 million, including a $2 million signing bonus, with the Houston Texans. This pretty much eliminates any chance Houston will draft a quarterback, considering all the money they have invested in David Carr and Rosenfels.

Despite his impressive performance leading the Dolphins to a comeback victory over the Buffalo Bills on Sunday, Rosenfels will return to his backup role next weekend, according to Dolphins head coach Nick Saban. The quarterback took over after starter Gus Frerotte left with a mild concussion, and went 22 of 37 for 272 yards, two touchdowns and an interception. Frerotte reported feeling fine on Monday and will remain atop the depth chart.

Rosenfels engineered fourth quarter touchdown drives of 70, 49 and 73 yards in the Dolphins' win over the Bills on Sunday. Gus Frerotte started the game at quarterback, but suffered a concussion in the third quarter, forcing him to the bench. Rosenfels then came on to fill the void under center and finished 22 of 37 for 272 yards and two touchdowns.

Rosenfels got the starting nod for the Miami Dolphins in Sunday's matchup with the Cleveland Browns, filling in for Gus Frerotte, who was nursing a sore and swollen right index finger. The quarterback went 5 of 10 for just 14 yards, two interceptions and no touchdowns before head coach Nick Saban decided to replace him with the injured Frerotte late in the third quarter.

Rosenfels will start at quarterback for the Dolphins when they visit the Cleveland Browns today.

With regular starter Gus Frerotte nursing a swollen right index finger and listed as questionable for Sunday's matchup with the Cleveland Browns, Rosenfels took the majority of the snaps with the Dolphins' first-team offense at practice on Wednesday. According to head coach Nick Saban, a decision on a starter for the weekend will be made once the team sees how Frerotte's finger responds to treatment.
