Gary Baxter

10/24/2005

Tests have revealed that Baxter has a torn pectoral muscle, an injury suffered early in Sunday's loss to the Detroit Lions. The cornerback underwent surgery on Monday, and he will be placed on injured reserve, officially ending his 2005 campaign. In five games this season, Baxter notched 23 tackles, two interceptions and a forced fumble.

Baxter has recovered from the concussion he sustained in an exhibition meeting with the Detroit Lions on August 20, and he returned to full-speed workouts with the Cleveland Browns on Wednesday. The cornerback reported no problems and said he plans to be in the starting lineup for Sunday's matchup with the Green Bay Packers.

Baxter likely will be unavailable for Sunday's season opener against the Cininnati Bengals, as he continues to recover from the concussion he sustained in an exhibition meeting with the Detroit Lions on August 20. The Browns' starting cornerback, officially listed as doubtful, will be replaced in the lineup by Leigh Bodden if he is unable to go.

Baxter was forced to leave Saturday's preseason game against the detroit Lions after suffering a concussion. The Cleveland cornerback was injured when he collided with Detroit running back Kevin Jones in the first quarter.
