Andre Dyson

1/15/2006

Dyson, who returned to Seattle's lineup Saturday after missing four games with a high ankle sprain he suffered in Week 13, left in the second quarter with an ankle injury. Whether he aggravated the old injury hasn't been reported, but the Seahawks' cornerback returned to action in the fourth quarter.

Dyson reported no major problems -- other than some expected rust -- after returning to practice with the Seattle Seahawks on Tuesday. The cornerback, who has been sidelined since suffering a high ankle sprain in a Week 13 win over the Philadelphia Eagles, is not listed on the team's injury report this week and plans to be in the starting lineup for Saturday's playoff game against the Washington Redskins.

Dyson has been diagnosed with a high ankle sprain, an injury more serious than thought initially. The ailment is expected to keep the Seahawks' cornerback sidelined for the rest of the regular season, but the team has not ruled him out for the playoffs, according to head coach Mike Holmgren. Dyson suffered the injury on his second touchdown return in Monday night's victory over the Philadelphia Eagles.

Dyson found the end zone twice in Monday night's victory over the Philadelphia Eagles, returning both an interception and fumble for touchdowns. However, the Seahawks' cornerback sprained his left ankle while taking back the fumble early in the second half and had to be carried off the field by several teammates. He left the stadium on crutches, sporting a protective boot on his foot.

Dyson pulled his hamstring in Sunday's victory over the St. Louis Rams, and the Seahawks expect to be without his services for the next couple of weeks. Until the cornerback can return to action, Kelly Herndon is slated to step into the starting lineup for Seattle.

Dyson has been named the starting left cornerback for the Seahawks, beating out Kelly Herndon.

Dyson has signed with the Seattle Seahawks, agreeing to a reported five-year, $17.5 million contract, including a $3 million signing bonus. The cornerback spent his first four NFL seasons with the Tennessee Titans after being selected in the second round of the 2001 Draft. He appeared in all 16 of the team's games last year, finishing with 41 tackles and a career-high six interceptions.
