Marques Tuiasosopo

12/14/2005

Making just the second start of his NFL career, Tuiasosopo struggled in last weekend's loss to the New York Jets, going 14 of 26 for 124 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions. He was sacked six times and lost two fumbles. As a result, the Raiders have decided to make another switch, handing the starting job back to veteran Kerry Collins. According to head coach Norv Turner, Collins gives the team the best chance to win in Sunday's meeting with the Cleveland Browns.

It was fairly obvious that Tuiasosopo was making just his second career start in Sunday's matchup with the New York Jets. The Raiders' quarterback, who got the nod over ineffective veteran Kerry Collins, finished the game 14 of 26 for 124 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions. He was sacked six times and lost two fumbles.

According to Raiders head coach Norv Turner, Tuiasosopo will be under center when the team takes the field against the New York Jets on Sunday, replacing the struggling Kerry Collins, who has led Oakland to just one win in the last five games. A second-round pick in 2001, Tuiasosopo has not appeared in a regular-season game since the 2003 campaign. For his career, he is 28 of 49 for 358 yards, three interceptions and no touchdowns.

According to Raiders head coach Norv Turner, the team is considering giving Tuiasosopo the nod in Sunday's matchup with the Jets in New York, primarily due to the continued struggles of starter Kerry Collins. Turner plans to make a final decision prior to practice on Wednesday. Tuiasosopo, a second-round pick in 2001, has appeared in eight games in his career, but hasn't taken the field during the regular season since 2003.

Tuiasosopo suffered a minor fracture of his right index finger while holding a practice kick during warmups prior to Saturday's exhibition game against the Houston Texans. The Raiders' backup quarterback was able to play in the contest, but he did not practice with the team on Monday as a precautionary measure.
