Anthony Thomas
4/29/2006
Thomas signed with the Buffalo Bills on Friday to serve as Willis McGahee's backup. The move reunites Thomas with Bills coach Dick Jauron, who coached Thomas when he was with the Bears from 2001-03. Thomas, who had two 1,000-yard seasons in Chicago, spent last season with Dallas and New Orleans. He has 3,424 yards in his five-year career.

After being released by the Dallas Cowboys last week, Thomas has found a new home, signing with the New Orleans Saints on Tuesday. The veteran running back was expected to serve as Julius Jones' primary backup this season, but he became expendable when Marion Barber and Tyson Thompson emerged and moved up the Cowboys' depth chart. Just two years removed from topping 1,000 yards rushing with the Chicago Bears, Thomas picked up just 80 yards on 36 carries with Dallas.

With the recent solid play of rookies Marion Barber and Tyson Thompson, the Dallas Cowboys have decided to cut ties with Thomas, releasing the veteran on Tuesday. The running back came into the season as Julius Jones' primary backup, but averaged just 2.2 yards per carry in six games.

With Julius Jones sitting out Friday's practice, it appears that Thomas will start at running back for the second straight week for the Cowboys when they meet the Seattle Seahawks this Sunday. Last week against the New York Giants, Thomas carried 21 times for 47 yards.
10/17/2005
Thomas has been inactive for a couple games this season, but he was in the Cowboys' starting lineup for Sunday's victory over the New York Giants, filling in for Julius Jones, who was out with an ankle injury. The former Bears running back finished the contest with 47 yards on 21 carries. Tyson Thompson and Marion Barber also figured into the backfield mix, but their touches were limited.
10/2/2005
Thomas will remain on the Cowboys' inactive list for the second straight week. Thomas has yet to adequately impress head coach Bill Parcells, who has stated that reserves Tyson Thompson and Marion Barber will remain active.
9/26/2005
Thomas was inactive for Sunday's meeting with the San Francisco 49ers, as the Cowboys decided to go with Marion Barber and Tyson Thompson as the primary backups to starting tailback Julius Jones. In the team's first two contests of the 2005 campaign, Thomas picked up nine yards on five carries and hauled in two passes for five yards.
9/2/2005
With his performance in Friday's preseason finale against the Jacksonville Jaguars, Thomas appeared to all but wrap up a spot on the Cowboys' 53-man roster for the 2005 campaign. The running back rushed for 64 yards on 11 carries and hauled in three passes for 28 yards.

According to head coach Bill Parcells, Thomas may need to find a niche on special teams to warrant a weekly spot on the active roster this season. Parcells indicated that he sees Thomas as a "thumper" -- a short-yardage and goal-line back. But he also said that might not be enough, and that the former Bear likely will need to find additional work on special teams. Thomas rushed for 1,000 yards in both 2001 and 2003, but he logged just 404 yards on the ground last season.

Thomas has signed a one-year contract with the Dallas Cowboys. The running back, who also talked to the Bills, Bengals, Seahawks, Saints and Jaguars before agreeing to terms with the Cowboys, spent his first four NFL seasons with the Chicago Bears after being selected in the second round of the 2001 Draft. He split time with Thomas Jones last year, finishing the campaign with 404 yards and two touchdowns on 122 carries, along with 17 catches for 132 yards.
