Johnson got a two-year extension Thursday as part of a reworked contract that increases his pay to an average of $10.75 million per year in bonuses and salary. The Bengals' wide receiver could remain with the team until 2011 under the new deal. Johnson led the AFC with a career-high 97 catches last season and set a club record with 1,432 yards.

Johnson hauled in eight passes for a career-high 189 yards and a touchdown in Sunday's meeting with the Indianapolis Colts, but despite the effort, the Bengals lost the battle, 45-37. The receiver has topped 90 yards six times this season, including four of his last five games.

As a precautionary measure, Johnson was held out of practice on Wednesday, allowing him to rest his bruised left shoulder. The ailment is considered minor, and the receiver is expected to be ready for this weekend's tussle with the Baltimore Ravens. Officially, Johnson is listed as probable on the Bengals' injury report.

Johnson notched his second 100-yard outing of the 2005 campaign, hauling in eight passes for 135 yards and a touchdown in Sunday's victory over the Tennessee Titans. The receiver has five catches or more in all but one of the Bengals' six games this season, and in the contest he finished short (three receptions), Johnson had two TDs.

The Chicago Bears were able to limit Johnson to just three catches in Sunday's loss to the Cincinnati Bengals, but the receiver made the most of his touches, finding the end zone twice. He finished with 77 yards on the day, scoring from 18 and 40 yards.

9/19/2005

Johnson hauled in seven passes for 139 yards, including a 70-yard touchdown catch on the second play of the game, in Sunday's 37-8 victory over the Minnesota Vikings. Dating back to last season, the Bengals' receiver has topped 100 yards in three of his last eight contests. He's also averaged seven catches per game over that span.

Johnson temporarily had to leave Sunday's season opener against the Cleveland Browns to get intravenous fluids for the leg cramps he was experiencing during the game. The Bengals' receiver returned to the contest and finished with a team-high nine receptions for 91 yards.

Johnson worked out with the Bengals last week and showed no ill effects from the arthroscopic surgery on his ankle that he underwent a month ago. The purpose of the procedure was to remove bone chips from the ankle, and the wideout reported no pain while running routes last week. Johnson is coming off three straight 1,000-yard seasons that saw him haul in a combined 24 touchdowns.
