Alge Crumpler
8/19/2006
Crumpler won't play in the preseason, Falcons coach Jim Mora said. Crumpler returned to practice in full team drills on Aug. 2 and is expected to play in Week 1. The tight end has the labrum and rotator cuff in his right shoulder repaired in late February after he appeared in his third straight Pro Bowl.

Nursing a sore left knee since the Falcons' first preseason game last month, Crumpler has been limited in practice this week as a precautionary measure. The tight end, who reportedly is at about 90 percent, isn't expected to miss any game action, however. He'll be in the starting lineup for Sunday's meeting with the Seattle Seahawks.

Crumpler is expected to be in the Falcons' starting lineup for Monday night's season opener against the Philadelphia Eagles, but reportedly, he will be playing at less than full strength. The tight end has been limited since having his ailing left knee drained following the team's preseason finale.

To reduce some minor swelling in his left knee, Crumpler had the joint drained on Wednesday, making him unavailable for Thursday's preseason finale against the Miami Dolphins. According to Falcons head coach Jim Mora, the ailment has been a problem since the team's first exhibition contest.
