Deuce McAllister

8/19/2006

McAllister is expected to start and play most of the first half for the Saints in their preseason game against the Cowboys on Monday. He tore his right anterior cruciate ligament on Oct. 9 last season.

McAllister is reportedly about two weeks ahead of schedule in his rehabilitation for a torn ACL injury. The New Orleans Saints' running back is in Week 15 of his rehab and began jogging three weeks ago.

An MRI on McAllister's right knee has revealed a torn anterior cruciate ligament. The Saints' running back, who suffered the injury in Sunday's blowout loss to the Green Bay Packers, will miss the rest of the 2005 campaign. The club will turn to Antowain Smith and Aaron Stecker to fill the void in the backfield going forward.

McAllister rumbled over the Bills' normally stout defense on Sunday, picking up 130 yards on 27 carries and also making two receptions for 16 yards. The running back's average of 4.8 yards per carry was his best mark of the season.

With 47 yards rushing on Monday against the Giants, McAllister became the all-time leading rusher in Saints history with 4,305 yards passing George Rogers (4,258). The fifth-year back out of Mississippi has rushed for over 1,000 yards in the past three seasons and should again this year.

9/12/2005

McAllister averaged just 2.5 yards per carry in Sunday's season opener against the Carolina Panthers, but he found the end zone twice to lead the Saints to a 23-20 victory. The running back finished the day with 64 yards on 26 carries to go along with two receptions for five yards.

The Saints and McAllister came to terms on a multiyear contract extension that paves the way for the team's franchise running back to report on time to the opening of training camp on Friday. According to reports on ESPN.com, the new pact is for eight years (including the 2005 campaign) and could be worth as much as $53.2 million if McAllister achieves all stipulated performances bonuses. The deal makes the fifth-year pro one of the best-paid backs in the game.
