Nate Clements
5/5/2006
Clements signed a one-year, $7.2 million contract with Buffalo on Friday. The standout cornerback, who was a first-round draft pick by the Bills in 2001, has been a starter in all five seasons with the team. Clements has 20 interceptions, 11 forced fumbles, four fumble recoveries and 296 tackles in that span.

The Buffalo Bills reportedly designated Clements their franchise player Wednesday. The franchise tag would pay the cornerback $5.9 million.

Clements has been held out of practice this week as a precautionary measure, due to a minor shoulder injury. However, according to Bills head coach Mike Mularkey, the cornerback will be in the starting lineup for Sunday's season opener against the Houston Texans. He has led the Bills in interceptions each of his four seasons in the league.

Clements admitted Wednesday that he would like to be the highest-paid cornerback in the NFL. The former first-round pick will continue to negotiate with the Buffalo Bills until the start of the regular season in hopes of coming to terms on a long-term deal, as he is entering the last year of his current contract.
