Billy Volek

10/24/2005

Volek, who got the starting nod in place of the ailing Steve McNair in Sunday's meeting with the Arizona Cardinals, was forced to leave in the second half after suffering a mild concussion. Prior to his departure, the quarterback went 18 of 32 for 198 yards with one touchdown and an interception. Regular third-stringer Matt Mauck took over for the Titans after Volek went down.

Billy Volek will make his 10th career start on Sunday when the Tennessee Titans take on the Cardinals in Arizona. He replaces Steve McNair, who is out with back and ankle injuries, and did not even accompany the team to Arizona.

According to Tennessee Titans head coach Jeff Fisher, Volek currently is about 90-percent recovered from offseason surgery to repair a severely separated throwing shoulder. The quarterback, who went under the knife nearly four months ago, plans to be at full strength by the start of training camp later this summer. In 10 games last season, Volek was 218 of 357 for 2,486 yards, 18 touchdowns and 10 interceptions. He also posted a rushing TD.
