Na'il Diggs

4/21/2006

Diggs signed a one-year contract with Carolina on Thursday, giving the Panthers more linebacking depth. The outside linebacker started 80 games for the Packers over the last six seasons, but played in only nine in 2005 after tearing his MCL in both knees on different occasions.

Although his left knee is still not 100 percent, Diggs plans to return to practice with the Green Bay Packers this week in hopes of being available for Sunday's meeting with the Pittsburgh Steelers. The linebacker, who has been sidelined since Week 4 with a sprained medial collateral ligament, currently is considered as questionable for this weekend's action.

Tests have revealed that Diggs as a sprained medial collateral ligament in his left knee. The Packers' linebacker, who missed some time suffering nearly the same exact injury to his other knee in a May minicamp, is expected to be sidelined at least a month. He went down in Monday night's loss to the Carolina Panthers.

On Wednesday, Diggs participated in a full practice for the first time since spraining the medial collateral ligament in his left knee during the first week of August. However, the linebacker was still limited by the injury and did not see any action with the Packers' first-team defense. There is a chance that he will not be ready for Sunday's meeting with the Cleveland Browns.

Diggs, listed as questionable on the Packers' injury list, was unable to practice with the team on Thursday and the chances of him playing in Sunday's season opener against the Detroit Lions appear to be deteriorating. The linebacker has been hobbled since spraining the medial collateral ligament in his left knee in early May and has said he won't take the field unless he feels the knee is 100 percent.

According to Packers head coach Mike Sherman, Diggs could be ready for Sunday's regular-season opener against the Detroit Lions. The veteran linebacker missed most of training camp with a sprained medial collateral ligament in his left knee, but returned to action on Monday and reported no problems after working out with the team.

Diggs continues to be ahead of schedule in his recovery from a sprained medial collateral ligament in his left knee, but he has yet to resume practicing with the Green Bay Packers. Reportedly, the linebacker, who has missed the last two weeks, is pain-free and has every intention of being in the lineup for the team's Week 1 battle with the Detroit Lions.

Diggs will be sidelined for at least two weeks and could miss up to six weeks after spraining the medial collateral ligament in his left knee during the Packers' workouts on Monday. The linebacker will not need surgery at this point, and the team is optimistic that he will be ready for the start of the regular season.
