Jeff Ulbrich

10/12/2005

Ulbrich sought opinions from several specialists before finally deciding to undergo surgery to repair the ruptured biceps tendon in his right arm on Wednesday. The 49ers' linebacker, who suffered the injury in Sunday's loss to the Indianapolis Colts, will be placed on injured reserve and miss the rest of the 2005 season. He finishes the year with 42 tackles and a forced fumble in five games.

An MRI on Ulbrich's ailing left arm has revealed a ruptured biceps tendon, and the 49ers' linebacker might be forced to undergo season-ending surgery. He will get a second opinion over the next couple of days, but it appears going under the knife is the likely course of action. If he tries to play through the injury, Ulbrich reportedly could risk a 50 percent loss in arm strength for the rest of his life.
